Default Just a question and a rant

I have a question...I am dieting and to lose any weight whatsoever I have to eat 800 calories or less to lose anything. If I eat anymore than that I will either stay the same or gain. Dr. says thyroid is ok so it isn't that. Have thought it could be higher levels of insulin that is keeping me from losing and keeping on the fat. I would like to know of ways of eating that would help if it is the insulin levels. I do get hypoglycemic at times but not sure if it is because I have to eat so little to lose or higher insulin levels are normal. geesh I could eat a lot more vegetables and fruit and not be so hungry if i could lose on a 1000 to 1200 cal diet. It just isn't faIR that I have to eat so little to lose anything. Just wondering.

800 calories is WAY to extreme. I bet you need to eat a lot more than you think. Have you ever run your numbers on a website to figure out how many calories you should be eating? I ran your height and weight and where you want to be at (without knowing how old you are or what your activity level is) and it says that to lose a pound a week you should be eating 1600 cals a day because you are burning around 2100. At 800 your body is starving and holding onto everything it has.

Ever think about getting a Go Wear Fit or Body Bugg? I got one and I usually burn about 3000 cals a day, eat about 2000 cals a day, and lose about 2 # a week. Granted, I weigh more than you, but it works for anybody. You see what you burn, eat 500 cals a day less to lose a pound a week, eat 1000 cals less a day for 2 # a week.

I agree. Do you think you are underestimating your calories? Like, if you think you're eating 1500 but it's really 2000? I've heard that most people underestimate their calories by 40% so maybe take a look at your calorie counts again and make sure you're writing down everything you're eating.

I wonder if the reason your not losing weight at anything above 800 calories is because your not eating enough. I have found that sometimes when I up my calories it has really helped me lose more weight. The thing is that I gain a few pounds back but than lose that and more. Just my own 2 cents.

I am wondering if you are accurately counting your calories. How, exactly are you counting them ? Do you have a book with calorie counts ? Or are you using Daily Plate or sparkpeople or some other online calorie counter ? It might be possible that you are eating more calories than you think you are.

Absolutely not eating enough, you're body isn't losing because your metabolism has slowed down so significantly to reserve calories so you can survive! You may need to eat just your maitenance calories for a few months just to repair your metabolism and then begin to cut back from there. A good starting point is your weight x 12 (for maitenance). If you are anxious to start losing you could use the maitenance calories for your goal weight, but it really sounds like your metabolism is shot so it may take some time? Are you exercising?

For keeping your blood sugar levels even, eat every 3-4 hours. Even if you're not hungry -- just eat a few bites of something. That way your blood sugar won't drop or spike dramatically.

I bet even 1200 is going to be a bit low for you. I bet if you aim for 1500 you would feel better and see some results.

Just an opinion.
