Angry XENICAL XANIES - NOVEMBER 1ST

To all Xenical Xanies & friends of the Xanies...

Thought I should start a new thread for a new month(and the other was getting quite long).

I am desperately trying to avoid all leftover Hallowe'en goodies today...I do have a full candy dish on my desk, but happy to report it contains stuff that is quite low fat (bubble gum, rockets, lollipops and some chewy candy)...so even a taste or two should not do too much damage.

My electronic scale was acting quite temperamental this morning (and I know I SHOULD NOT weigh myself every day !!), so I cannot really tell how much I've lost...it has gone downwards...but due to me hopping on and off I guess (yes I wait 30 secs in between) I can't get an accurate reading. I have been overindulging more than normal, so I am curious to see how this is working...or not!

My next official monthly weigh in with my dr scheduled for Nov. 9th, so I really have to pay more attention to what I put in my mouth...having said that..tonight is GIRLS NIGHT OUT!!!! And I am really looking forward to that (no I don't get out much...lol)

We're going to a Japanese restaurant...no I don't like sushi, but they have those grill tables that you sit around and they chop up a storm...not too bad...kind of like a stir fry (I might get the shrimp instead of my usualy steak cuz I know they're lower in fat)....salad, soup, tea, dessert (sherbet) included...so I will be full..but also lots of fresh veggies too!! (mushrooms, onions, zucchini, bean sprouts)...can you tell it's almost lunchtime here?

Anyhow....waiting to hear from everyone on how they're doing!

Happy November 1st!

Frouf

Default Hi Gang.

I didn't have the nerve to bring my Xenical with me on vacation. Being the car for loooooong strips of time without stopping sounded just too dangerous.

We're in Salt Lake City tonight after four nights in Las Vegas. The drive from there to here was simply gorgeous. Dallas has no scenery at all!!! So even the desert looked great to us. We are headed to Denver tomorrow and then to SantaFe New Mexico and then home to Dallas. We should be back Monday or Tuesday. Then I'll start my pills back.

Hope everyone else is having a great week. (We were in Las Vegas on Halloween night, so I missed the temptationof the candy, but I made up for it in other areas.)

Hi everyone - glad to find others using xenical too. It's only been a couple of weeks for me, but hasn't been going so well.

For the first couple of days, I was sooooo worried about the side effects, I was super careful about my fat intake. Well, little by little, found out I could handle it, without anything disastrous happening.

So, I've got to get back on track, and use it as intended!

Good luck everyone!

Wink WELCOME MARYMAX!

Don't be frightened of this little turquoise pills......they do work, but you do have to take them!

I know it takes a while for your body to get used to it...but if you are careful with your fat grams (and sounds like you are) you should really have no problems.

Do you have to go back to dr in a month? Have you registered with Roche and received info package? (video & binder with info and recipes). I was quite impressed with their mailing and I'm still getting info in the mail.

There is actually a Xenical site which I have been using to track my progress (www.xenicare.com)...unfortunately it has been taken down for a while for "reconstruction" but it says they will be back up mid-november.

How much weight do you want to lose?? ...and do you weigh yourself on your own? I am notorious for hopping on and off the scale, which I know is a terrible habit, but I just NEED TO KNOW!!

Anyhow, I find weekends pretty challenging and this one is no exception as we already took kiddies to movies (Monsters, Inc - very cute!)...so I did have some popcorn...and going out to a restaurant with friends tonite and to another friend's home for dinner tomorrow night....so I will have to carefully watch what I consume.

Barb...I am extremely jealous and wish I was with you....I love trips and have been to Vegas eons ago and really enjoyed it. Good luck and have fun!

Hmmmm glad you started a new thread Froufy. Ally was bummed that she missed you the other night.

ageoldie, what a nice trip. I am taking Merida and although it does not have the kind of side effects that Xenical does, I almost hate to waste the $3.00 per pill when I am on vacation. It does not stop me from eating.

I try NOT to get on the scale. I joined WW at work to go along with my other group---figured I'd need all the help I could get over the holidays. I hate that I have to get weighed each week.

Just shy of the 90lb mark now but am going on vacation and so will be prepared to gain some back. Well this is life and that's what happens

Keep it up, ladies.....we will all get there

Hi Frouf - My Dr. asked me to come back in 3 months (right after the holidays...what timing) And...yep I weigh myself all the time. My Dr. says he'd like to see me at 180 and I'm 260 - so a ways to go.

Thanks so much for the other info. I haven't registered with Xenical..but I think I will.

BTW - do any other Xenical Xanies have PCOS?

And Nikolas - 90 lbs! That's awesome. It really helps those of us at the beginning of trying to lose to hear such great stories.

Thanks all!

Default KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!

Hey Nik...

90 lbs is awesome..good for you!!! And even tho you say you'll gain weight on your holidays...I know you will at least be making better choices!!

Marymax...you should definitely register once the site is up...and you might want to try their tracking journal and other tools as well.

I am trying to get back on track after quite a funfilled (translate that into "eating")..weekend. Went out for dinner with friends on Sat nite...very yummy (having my "doggy bag" leftovers for lunch today).....poached salmon (had the caviar/butter sauce on the side) with lots of roasted veggies, had soup, roll w/ butter, and could not resist dessert (after a huge glass of white wine my resistance was quite low)...creme caramel one of my favorites! (still took my pill).
The good news I guess is I didn't "clean my plate" as I would have in the past...ate half my dinner and "doggy bagged" the rest for home!

Last night invited for dinner at friends: butternut squash soup, some kind of chicken in a wine sauce, sweet potatoes and red peppers, and apple in phyllo for dessert...I'm sure I over did it in calories and fat grams...so I'm trying to get back to it prior to dr's appt on Friday.

This morning of course huge birthday party at work, complete with chocolate cake for boss...just had a sliver, so that was okay.

Anyhow....have fun on your holidays nik....if you see ally, tell her I'll try to drop by on the weekend!

bye for now!

I'm home

Had a GREAT trip and really enjoyed myself, and relaxed. I did sneak and take one Xenical on Saturday morning when we ate the buffet breakfast at the hotel, and I had to use a napkin to sop the grease out of the bacon. But all in all, I could have done lots worse.

I plan to start back tomorrow on the 2aday Xenicals for the rest of the week. Thursday we have an appointment for my husband to start the process of having the Weightloss surgery. I'm not planning too far into the future untill we see what will be going on with that. I don't know if the will schedule the surgery right away, or if there will be a long weight like there was to get this far. (we made this appointment in April seven months ago) Also we think they might have some type of diet for him to follow until the time of surgery. And I know that once the surgery is over there will be big changes in our eating style. My husband is VERRRRY large and eats a lot. He also has diabetes and several other health problems, and he says he never has a time he is not hungery. But after this surgery, he can only eat so much. so I'm hoping that I will not make as much as I do now and I won't be tempted to overeat!!! He will go through all the PAIN, but I'll share in the GAIN (rather LOSS)

Keep us in your thoughts and prayers as this was not an easy deciision for him to make, and it will not be an easy process to go through.

Default WELCOME BACK!

Glad to hear you had fun Barb...and are back home and ready to continue the battle.

I'm also hoping that all goes well with your dh's dr appt. and that you don't have to wait too long for the surgery. I have heard of the surgery, altho I don't personally know anyone who has had it, and I think in extreme cases, especially where there are other health risks, it is the way to go!

I'm glad you and your husband are both in this together, as I'm sure this will help him get thru with your continued support. As he loses the weight I believe many of his current health problems should disappear or at least diminish....and if you get thinner in the process, no harm done!

I'm fighting some sort of "eating binge" myself these days....not sure why....not that I'm hungry, just want to munch....and I alternate between sugar and salty stuff...had low fat microwave popcorn at work (yes I was still hungry)...then some jelly beans (at least not much fat in them).....but I know everything counts, cuz it has calories, even if it's low in fat, it's not a good idea to over do it!

I am now dreading my dr appt on Friday...not sure what to do!!!
Help!

I have already packed my lunch for tomorrow....and I'm okay for a while...then something happens and I snap (today I was desperately chewing bubble gum all morning, to keep my mouth busy!).

Hopefully this too shall pass!

Angry

Hello everybody. I actually posted another thread (somewhere ) asking advice about taking weight loss medication. I am interested in Xenical but afraid of the side effects, and wondering if it really works. My BMI is 34 according to all the calculators, and I have at least 90+lbs to go. So how are you all adjusting? Are you all losing weight? When I saw the side effects listed as "oily discharge", I could just see myself trying to figure out how to escape a public place with an oily stain on the seat of my pants!! So tell me your stories if you have them, I appreciate it!

Arrow Hi KBWSMom

I know it sounds scary...but in my experience, it has not been that bad.....yes I do sometimes have to get to the washroom quickly, but nothing I could not handle. In fact, if you do stick to the low fat choices, you should not have any problems at all! In the beginning I did feel a bit bloated & gassy, but your body should adjust in about 2 weeks or so.

I have been on Xenical since July 16 and have lost approximately 23 lbs so I am very pleased. My starting BMI was around 38 and I am already down to 34, so this is a major improvement as well.

I also have not found it to be quite difficult as I am allowed to have approximately 1500 cals and 50 fat grams per day. In the beginning I had a hard time getting to 50 grams, but now I am indulging more which is fine, so I can have the occasional cookies, ice cream sandwich or potato chips and not feel like I've "fallen off the wagon". The trick is of course to measure and account for everything you put in your mouth!;)

I am definitely making different food choices, and check labels all the time. Of course, exercise and portion control is also encouraged, and low fat eating is further emphasized, cuz you do run into those nasty side effects if you go overboard and have more than 30% of your calories in fat...so this does help make you "honest".

There is also a lot of support from Roche...so I have received a video and binder full of tips and recipes and there is a toll free number you can call if you have questions.

I have about 75 to lose, which I guess is down to about 55 lbs now...and I know I will make it, however long it takes!

I guess you should visit your dr and discuss it further if you are interested. I visit my dr. monthly for a weigh in and a new prescription.

My next appt is this week...and I know my weight loss has slowed down, but it is still a loss, so it's in the right direction.

Good luck and let us know what you decide to do!

Frouf:cool:

well, I took my Xenical's today. At least I'm on the right track finally. We went to the seminar for the weithg loss surgery for my dh and we've started the wheels in motion. They are now checking out our insurance to see if they will pay for any of it, then he starts in on the physical and psyhcological (sp) testing and then waits for the surgery. They say the waight is about 6 months, so we need to do something while we wait. After the surgery he will be on a protein diet similar to Adkins. Do any of you know anything about that? It's never appealed to me. but I guess I'd better start finding out about it.

I plan to weigh in Monday and start my exercise back. It's so hard to get back in the groove after vacation.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Default Hey Barb...

Nice to hear from you again...and nice to see you getting back on track. I too am "getting back to basics" after a Hallowe'en candy attack!

Was at dr's on Friday...and lost another 1.5 kg (that's about 3.3 lbs in plain English)...not a huge monthly loss, but I'll take it! It still goes downward and I'm really please...total weight loss is now around 25 lbs (give or take a half lb - yes I do weigh myself totallly naked 1st thing in the morning! )

I am hoping to hit 30 lbs by xmas holiday time and I know that will be quite a challenge as I already have 4 lunches on my schedule...and a few parties as well!

I still have to "commit" to exercise, and that is my biggest roadblock at this time!

Glad to hear you have started the wheels in motion for your dh....6 months does sound like a pretty long time to wait! Anyhow, I do hope your insurance covers it!

Let me know how you're doing.......

Aloha.....I am checking in from Hawaii. Still taking my Merida but can't say it is helping right now. Will be home just before Thanksgiving and will hop right back on the wagon.

Froufy, sounds like you are doing well. Keep up the good work.

Think we all have to remember that this is for LIFE and so that means we will all have our "larger food days" So what??? I now, for the first time, refuse to beat myself up about it.

Take care, everyone.

Default Hi in Hawaii!!!

Hey Nik,

Really nice to hear from you...even tho I am supremely jealous that you are in Hawaii (and I am not!!) Hope you are having a wonderful time....enjoy the weather (getting colder here by the second!).

I agree with the fact that there are times when LIFE happens (like when you're on holiday ) so you have to go with the flow, enjoy yourself and let go a bit. The problem is of course, letting go too much...and never getting back on track (something I am quite familiar with from past experience!).

I am still plugging away...tho probably not as careful as I used to be/or should be...but that's not the end of the world.

Okay...so finally someone...and only one person (yes it was my mother-in-law) noticed my weight loss. When she was over last weekend she mentioned that it looked like I had lost weight ...hallelujah!

This is the actual first person, since July that has actually said anything about my weight loss...and that's after almost 25lbs gone...how depressing. I know when people see you everyday they may not notice...but I have gotten together with friends who I had not seen since August...and was expecting something.....but alas....no mention of weight loss.

My dh is of course supportive and says he notices.......but I really want someone else to say something...even people at work have not said anything...and I do keep my weight loss efforts mostly to myself......

Well I guess I'll just have to keep working on it, until they notice that I am wasting away (ha ha...like that will ever happen).

Have a nice "rest of your holiday" Nik....will try and catch you guys in chat on weekend (still working on a school paper tho...).

bye for now!
