  • i seem to find the opposite problem...

i used to buy t-shirts from Hot Topic - the cute little faerie or character t-shirts. and a size 2XL fit me just fine. i'm actually about 10 pounds smaller now, than when i bought my favorites... it's been about two or three years, so they're getting a little worn out (the seams actually came out of the sleeves of one of them! )

i went to look for a couple of new shirts, and their 2XL won't even come CLOSE to fitting, now. somewhere along the line, they decided that 2XL means longer, not wider... of course, their sister store, Torrid, has the right idea for sizes, but they don't have the same cute t-shirts. i'm bummed.

can't wait until i'm buying those size 4's, 6's or 8's, though. *LOL* i've NEVER been that small! even when i was at my goal weight of 135, in high school, i was always a size 12, or bigger...
  • A few weeks ago, I read this on MSNBC:

    Quote:
"According to standard size measurements, that average 155 pound woman should be wearing a size 16, but thanks to vanity-sizing, she's probably buying a size 10 or 12," says Jim Lovejoy, the industry director for the SizeUSA survey. "Most companies aren't using the standard ASTM [American Society for Testing and Materials] sizes any more. Sizes have been creeping up a half inch at a time so that women can fit into smaller sizes and feel good about it."
This was part of an article in Newsweek. I have to say that 10 years ago, I weighed 10 pounds less than I do today and I could just barely wear an 8. Today, I am a 6--with room.
  • Well, the proof is in the wearing. I was just looking for a replacement pair of cordoroys for my old favs that have split in the most unflattering spot. I tried on two pairs at Wal*Mart, and two at Sears. I went with the ones from Sears which were more flattering and I liked the style much better. But the Jrs. size 9 at Sears fit me the same as the Jrs. size 11 at Wal*Mart. Go figure. No wonder men complain about women taking so long to shop. We have to try every daggon piece of clothing on since they can't get it right.
  • Has anyone noticed that the jeans at Old Navy seem to be made for anorexic people? 2 years ago, I had to buy 18's there. At Walmart or anywhere else I was a 12! I refuse to buy their jeans now. Dresses are a diffrent story, lol!
  • Please, no one bash me for using the term anorexic, btw. It was a joke, but I should have said "really skinny people"

pencil legged people--I went to Old Navy the other day looking for jeans and I didn't even bother to try anything on! I knew my legs weren't that thin (and yet I fit into a 6 at the Gap).

I actually have the opposite problem at Old Navy. I find their sizes are HUGE for what they are. Old Navy was one of the only stores I shopped at at my high weight because I could fit a 16/18 there and everywhere else I was closer to a 20. I guess we're all built differently. O_o

i have the same prob with them

but I am curvier thru the butt and thighs (always have been even when thinner) I always have to try a size up with them, and don't often buy their jeans, not because of the size either, but because of the gaping in the waist when i find jeans there that fit...

I must say, I do really well at Rickis, they are just right snug (hugging the right places), and well proportioned for me. I have been having issues finding clothes since hitting that nasty borderline on plus sizes and regular sizes...
  • I went to Old Navy tonite because I had saw a leather jacket there last week that I wanted to get, but had to wait. I tried a large one on tonite and it lacked 4 inches even closing. Now, I had bought a light jacket recently at Walmart and it was a Medium. This summer I walked into Old Navy and bought a pr. of capris, the same size as I wore into the store. When I got them home they were very tight especially in the thighs. I kept them and now my DD wears them. When I was at my heaviest, I bought almost all my jeans from there but not anymore.
