Yes..I think $600 is over the top...BUT, my DH works hard for his money and as long as he doesn't start honing in on my grocery shopping budget, more power to him. It's all family entertainment, in my opinion. I know, a lot of people have pretty passionate objections to kids and video games, but I feel all things are good in moderation...my kids WERE just out raking leaves and jumping in them, so it's not like they're recluses or anything...on the other hand, we have family gaming nights were we're all playing a game together, so what's the difference between that and a board game? Right? Probably about $575, not including probably $60 for a game to play in it. But, you know, it's the big Christmas thing for the year. We're spoiled. :(

$600!! *passes out*

that thing better vacume the carpet too for that price. ( wouldn't that be nice?)

egads, no way I'm going to be able to get one of those until I get a better paying job other than babysitting @_@ College sucks all the money out of me But I can only wonder how cool the games are gonna look on that thing.

Oh! lol I almost forgot about PC games.. I'm so old school...my PC games are Rollercoaster Tycoon as well as Zoo and Zoo-2 tycoon. Personaly, I like the first Zoo tycoon better. the 3-d of the second one really messes with my eyes.

techwife: i didn't mean to sound like i think people are spoiled or anything... heck, i'm definitely spoiled. and i guess i can see it as not such a big spend, when it's something an entire family would enjoy together. but for an individual, or even just a couple... well, personally, it would seem outrageous, to me. then again, spending anything more than $300 worries me, anyway, even when we KNOW we can afford it. :o

i just kinda figured people would say forget it, and move on to something else, when the price was announced.

it just seems like Sony is getting "too big for their britches"... like they're forgetting all the gamers who've put money in their pockets, but can't necessarily afford a $600 system.

i guess if i had a high paying job, and could afford it easily, i wouldn't complain so much... it's not that i don't WANT one. i just can't justify spending that much money on it. :(

Sakai: :dizzy: that's about the reaction that i had. TOO much... i'll just get a Wii, and wait until the price comes down on the PS3. :p

techwife 10-10-2006 06:25 PM

No offense taken...I'm mostly just trying to justify it in my own mind. :dizzy: LIke I said, as long as I have money for groceries, more power to him. He works VERY hard for his money and deserves his little splurges...and we can certainly afford them. I just feel sorry for people that really, really want one and now they are soooo overpriced, its pretty much impossible to get one. I don't even want to think about how much the actual games to play on it will be. I used to think $30 was bad back in the day, now it's common to pay $60 for some! I hope the increase in the cost of the gaming system won't reflect the price of the games themselves!!

I also LOVE Roller Coaster Tycoon. I like the old version better...probably RCT2 is the best. The one where you can ride it is too hard and bogs down my computer and hangs up all the time. You know, I once had a nightmare where I was trying to track down the phantoms that kept breaking my benches and street lamps. :fr: I can't play it, though, as I end up spending ALL day on it. Then I think, someday when I'm on my deathbed, I'll look back and be really mad at myself that I wasted a perfectly good healthy day on building a make believe amusement park. So, I try to keep playing it to a minimum. Waaaayy too addicting!!

$600??? Eeek! See, this is why I never buy first-gen tech. Too damn hard on the wallet.

I'm looking forward to the ps3, but I do know what you mean about the high prices, myself and my husband play games together alot so I guess its worth it for us, plus I crave new games. I did used to own an xbox 360 but to be honest I lost interest in it pretty fast, I got about half of the way through Oblivian and I enjoyed it at first but after a while I got bored of the repition, and the story wasn't enough to hold my attention. I did beat KOTOR and KOTOR2 on my old xbox though :D

I used to play Zoo Tycoon and Rollarcoaster Tycoon on pc, but my pc at home is broken, and I can't anymore. I love the whole designing a zoo or themepark and then managing it, I really have fun doing that sort of thing. I also used to play Everquest Frontiers on ps2, I had a 34 barbarian shaman, had lots of fun playing through that with my husband. I wanted to play Star Wars Galaxies but my pc was never good enough.

So, what is everybody's most looked forward to game which is due to come out? Mine is a close choice between Phantasy Star Universe and FFXII.
