Girl Gamers
Hiya,
Anybody here into playstation 2 or psp? I'm really into my games and it'd be great to be able to chat about what I'm playing through here. I'm looking forward to Phantasy Star Universe on ps2, it comes out in USA in three weeks and I'll be importing a copy for myself, looks like a fun and invloving game. |
Hi Neleh:
I'm a Nintendo DS person. But all I play is Animal Crossing and Tetris. My husband, on the other hand, has a PS2, XBox, XBox 360, PSP, Gamecube, and we have FOUR DSs in the house and THREE Animal Crossing games so we can all have our own worlds and visit each other and steal fruit, etc. Mostly, I watch my husband play his games while I crochet in my recliner. My son plays all things Mario and daughter LOVES Kingdom Hearts 2. My son plays video games way more than I'm comfortable with. He's only 5, but is REALLY good at it. My husband taught him Destroy All Humans and now it's a banned game in our home (by ME...it's so gross...but it IS funny if an adult is playing it...I just don't like watching my sweet little boy chasing down people to extract their brains...just doesn't work for me), so now they play it when I'm not home. The one venue we DON'T like are the WW2 and Vietnam reenactment things. I mean, who wants to relive THAT? Oh, and my son AND my husband both love the LEGGOS Star Wars games. Very cute...especially when the LEGGO Princess Leah is always slapping people across the face  My daughter and husband tried the Final Fantasy games, but they didn't like them like the Kingdom Hearts games. Oh...the one game I became addicted to was Paper Mario. Don't know why...it was just one of those things I couldn't put it down. I hear a new one is coming out soon. I can't wait for Christmas...we always get a huge load of new games and we sit around amongst the wrappings eating Christmas food and playing the games. I'm always trying to get board games (you know...the things people played BEFORE video games) to play with the kids while the other one is hogging the TV. But with so many multiple player games, like Mario Party, we all plug in our own controllers and have a blast. What are your favorite games? |
Techwife- My little brother will be getting a PS2 for his 10th birthday and I've been instructed to get him a game. This infuriates me because I was never allowed to have a game console when I was younger , but whatever. I'm glad you brought up the Star Wars Leggo game because he is a huge fan of both (especially Leggos). Do you think it's too young for a 10 year old?
I myself have a Gamecube and can get sucked into Sims2. I wish they would come out with more. |
Star Wars Leggos would be GREAT for a ten year old! My husband plays it constantly and he's 45! I always hear him laughing out loud and its just challenging enough to make it...well...chanllenging, but not so much so that you say, "Oh, forget it". My husband also loves the Rachet and Clank games. They are very popular with the younger kids, too.

Yay, other gamers!
My favorite games have to be the final fantasy games, I started on 10 and worked backwards, I'm playing through 8 again at the moment. I also live the kingdom hearts series, I beat them both, and my husband is playing through my copy of KH2 at the moment so I can't get my hands on it to play it again. I know what you mean about Christmas, my husband and I always buy each other games at that time, we both have uk and us ps2s and psps, we did have a 360 each but didnt really like it, and I used to have a ds but to be honest I didnt really like it that much although I have considered getting one again recently. I know what you mean about war games, I'm not really into them, although I do like shooters if there not war ones, the one exception is Battlefield 2, I love that and can't get enough of it. So, really rpgs are my think, final fantasy, kingdom hearts etc, can't wait for ffxii, I think my husband is importing it for my Birthday for me, yay!! Oh and Lego Star Wars looks very good, I'm waiting for the psp version though, me and Chris are going to play it through co-operativly hehe, lots of fun. |
Techwife- Thanks so much! That makes shopping for a ten year old boy so much easier!
|
The only games I play are Poker and a few small games at Pogo.com, and I play Diablo. Ummm, make that PLAYED Diablo. With a baby in tow, I'd forgotten all about Diablo for so long that my Level 75 Necro expired. :(
|
i only dabbled with video games, until i met my husband... :)
i had a PS2, and he had a Gamecube. then we got married, and decided that we needed an xBox, a Gameboy Advance SP, and a DS. :dizzy: and we still invest in the occasional computer game (Guild Wars: Factions is the current game in progress). so we're very much a gaming household... we even used video game music in our wedding! No joke! :p my favorite games would have to be Katamari Damacy, and We Love Katamari. they're just so absurdly silly! and i appreciate that they aren't gross or violent. i mean, i don't have anything against video game violence to some extent, but sometimes it gets old. it's nice to have something silly and just plain fun. besides, i've got such a short attention span... it's very rare that i actually finish a long drawn-out game. i love the Final Fantasy series, but they take me FOREVER - i've had FFX since a month or so after it came out, and i STILL haven't beaten it. :o oops! same, with Fable... love it, but still haven't finished it. that's okay, though... i sit by and watch my hubby beat the games, so i still get to see all the cool cinematics. :D |
Oh We Love Katamari is a great game, and the PSP version is amazing too, gives me a headache after I play it for too long though hehe :)
|
What is We Love Katamari? Is that the game where you roll the big collection of stuff around town?
My husband got a game called Conker that we thought we'd love with teddy bears fighting against squirrels...but it was really kinda gross...just for the sake of being gross...which defeats the point of playing with teddy bears and squirrels, in our opinion. Do you guys ever play Brain Age or the like? |
Yes Katamari is the role up stuff game, its fun with lots of crazy music. What's Brain Age, I haven't come across it?
|
have no idea what you gals are talking about...but I would love to get my hands on a "pong" game..........
|
techwife: Katamari Damacy is the first game of rolling up stuff... We Love Katamari is the sequel to it. :) both are totally fun, although personally, i think the second game is a little easier. yes, i've played Brain Age, and Big Brain Academy... it's been a while, though. as for Conker, i haven't played it, but i saw bits and pieces of Conker's Bad Fur Day, and all i can say is, "EEEEEEW!" :dizzy: nasty stuff.
Neleh: i haven't played the PSP version... for what it is, i'm not willing to spend the money on a PSP. :p |
Anyone play MMRPG's??? We've been playing Ultima Online for um...7yrs on and off. Sadly, we have 4 accounts running at the moment. Our 2 older kids play as well, although not as much as we do. Well, I'm not into it right now, I get burnt out on it at times.
My son has a PS2, getting an XBOX 360 for Christmas (I think) and we're crossing our fingers on getting one of the PS3's as soon as they come out! If we can get one before Christmas, I think the 360 will have to wait till his bday or something like that. Kim |
I used to play ffxi which is a MMORPG, I got my character to the level cap (75) and got bored and quit, I'm looking forward to Phantasy Star Universe which comes out on ps2, 360 and pc pretty soon, its known as a MORPG, multiplayer but not massivly. Looks great. I love it when me and my husband get to play through MMORPGs together, its such a fun way to spend time with each other :)
|
I play World of Warcraft. Mostly I started so I could play with my boyfriend. But I now find myself playing quite a bit without him too. :)
|
Have you guys seen (especially Squeaker!) seen the new South Park? Anyone that plays World of Warcraft or Ever Quest will die laughing!
Gary: Umm....you are like a gaming pill bug (stuck under a rock for all these years). You should at least move up to an Atari. You could probably get one on eBay. My husband got a Nintendo NES on eBay last year just for nostalgia for about $25. It didn't work very well, and it was NOT from a smoke free home (in fact, smelled like it came from a bar!), but he fixed it up and played it for a while. More cords and junk for me to dust  ) My husband is thinking of selling his PSP and buying a Wii (did I spell that right?) system. I think we'll need a bigger house. :^: I can't wait to see the tennis racket go flying through our 42" tv! :fr: |
I tend to avoid South Park, but did hear about that. I may end up watching that episode.
|
Ooh, I play World of Warcraft too! I have some online friends that I play with, people I've known for years.
I also play MUSHes, which are online text-based roleplaying games. It's like a cross between roleplaying games and collaborative novel writing, been playing them for 10-15 years online now. And unlike WoW, they're free! :) |
Gah! I play PS2.Mostly Final Fantasy. I've started at 7 and worked my way to Ten-2 (second part of 10) I also play Kingdom hearts I'm a 3rd of the way though the second one. Harvest Moon, and Sims are good games to kill time.
I got stuck on video games years sog when I was a kid and I would watch my cousins play. They would play Final Fantasy, all the Sonic games, mortal kombat and so many more. ( this was when Play Station first came out and they had both Play station and the Original Sega) I don't play as much as I do in the summer time. I could use up a whole day without even knowing it if I'm not careful ^_^ |
Kingdom Hearts 2 is a great game, I completed KH1 and I'm now playing through KH2 for the second time (this time on the medium level of hardness). Where have you got up to in the story Sakai? I love the opening song from the game, its funny, KH2 has only just come out here a couple of weeks ago and there are adverts for it on the tv, the theme music always brings a tear to my eye. I'm hoping there'll be a sequal on the ps3.
Hehe I could talk about KH2 all day, good to meet somebody else who's playing through it. |
They ARE working on a Kingdom Hearts 3...but it won't be out for a while. Which is good, in a way, because the longer they take to make them, the better they'll be, I think. I loved watching the family play Kingdom Hearts 2. We started KH1, but they got stuck somewhere around the Alice in Wonderland part...I think. I only watch the games being played as I crochet or clean the house, etc. I love the music...
Which 'world' in KH2 was your favorite? Mine was the Little Mermaid world...I liked how Sora was in touch with his feminine side, so to speak, dancing with Ariel and dressed as a merboy. I also liked when he was a lion. Really cool game. |
OOh can't wait for KH3. My favorite world in KH2 is the Port Royale, mostly because I love Pirates of the Carrabian and Captian Jack Sparrow hehe. I also love Hollow Bastion, it's very much a Square Enix level and I love my SQ games. At the moment I'm busy running around Port Royale trying to level myself up and level up my summons and drive forms. I love those drive forms hehe.
Is anybody going to be getting FFXII when it comes out? I pre-ordered a ps3 yesterday, because I live in England its not coming out here till next March but I have put a pre-order in with Lik-Sang to see if I can get an American one when they come out in the US, I don't hold out much hope though. My other game I'm playing right now is Dance Factory, I've saved the steps of some of my favorite songs and I'm playing it for half an hour each day to substitute my workout. Finally a way to workout which I really enjoy. |
OMG I didn't think PS3 was going to come out so soon. @_@ and I've only had a PS2 for not even 3 years yet. (took me forever to save up enough to get one.) When is it comming out?
anyways. I'm not very far into KH2 I just finished Port Royale, I loved it because I think Jack is the best :P Now I'm kinda stuck in Arials' world because I need to have Magnetic magic to get past moving that big 'ol stone. But I havn't a clue as to where to get it. So now I'm running around in Halloween Town. I love Halloween town but at time I hate it because I always get the music stuck in my head for days. lol My favorite world is Hallow Bastion because i LOVE beauty and the Beast. I was bouncing when I saw Belle.. I love Belle. |
PS3 comes out Nov, 17th of this year! Not long.

Another gamer girl here - but it looks like I'm in the minority with the Xbox? o_0 I love my Xbox. Halo pwns my socks. I'm more of an RPG girl most of the time; Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance and DA2, and KOTOR - I love KOTOR!
On the PC, I like the Sims (yes, I know, it's evil...but fun!) and Guild Wars, when my connection is good enough not to lag me out. I steal my SO's PS2 when I want to play ves FF games. FFX makes me happy. :) |
My DH tried Halo, but didn't quite get it. He played Kameo for a while and ...is Oblivion a PS2 game or XBOX? He played that for a while, as well.
I forgot about Halloweentown on KH2. I liked that one, too. The music IS addicting...but at least its nice music. DH is also first on the list for a PS3, putting down $100 on it this morning on a pre-order. He's also looking out for a Wii (?) when they come out. They should be out anytime now, I think. |
ooooh... KH2. :D i LOVE Halloweentown Sora... with Tron Sora being a close second.
although i HATE HATE HATE the music on the Tron level. BLAH! :p so everyone's really into the PS3? i'm surprised... personally, i think it's ridiculous that they're charging $600 for it, and therefore i won't be buying one. (i mean, seriously! that's THREE months worth of car payments!) but surely i'm not the only one who feels that way? :?: |
I'm a huge Everquest fan, been playing over 7 years. I actually moderate a very popular Everquest fan site :) www.samanna.net

games
I havent owned a game console for a long while, but have played a few pc games. I havent played all of them by any means but to date I've done:
Diablo1/2/lod Star wars galaxies City of heros World of warcraft Everquest2 Currently beta testing Lord of the rings online & Vanguard =) |
Yes..I think $600 is over the top...BUT, my DH works hard for his money and as long as he doesn't start honing in on my grocery shopping budget, more power to him. It's all family entertainment, in my opinion. I know, a lot of people have pretty passionate objections to kids and video games, but I feel all things are good in moderation...my kids WERE just out raking leaves and jumping in them, so it's not like they're recluses or anything...on the other hand, we have family gaming nights were we're all playing a game together, so what's the difference between that and a board game? Right? Probably about $575, not including probably $60 for a game to play in it. But, you know, it's the big Christmas thing for the year. We're spoiled. :(
|
$600!! *passes out*
that thing better vacume the carpet too for that price. ( wouldn't that be nice?) egads, no way I'm going to be able to get one of those until I get a better paying job other than babysitting @_@ College sucks all the money out of me But I can only wonder how cool the games are gonna look on that thing. Oh! lol I almost forgot about PC games.. I'm so old school...my PC games are Rollercoaster Tycoon as well as Zoo and Zoo-2 tycoon. Personaly, I like the first Zoo tycoon better. the 3-d of the second one really messes with my eyes. |
techwife: i didn't mean to sound like i think people are spoiled or anything... heck, i'm definitely spoiled. and i guess i can see it as not such a big spend, when it's something an entire family would enjoy together. but for an individual, or even just a couple... well, personally, it would seem outrageous, to me. then again, spending anything more than $300 worries me, anyway, even when we KNOW we can afford it. :o
i just kinda figured people would say forget it, and move on to something else, when the price was announced. it just seems like Sony is getting "too big for their britches"... like they're forgetting all the gamers who've put money in their pockets, but can't necessarily afford a $600 system. i guess if i had a high paying job, and could afford it easily, i wouldn't complain so much... it's not that i don't WANT one. i just can't justify spending that much money on it. :( Sakai: :dizzy: that's about the reaction that i had. TOO much... i'll just get a Wii, and wait until the price comes down on the PS3. :p |
No offense taken...I'm mostly just trying to justify it in my own mind. :dizzy: LIke I said, as long as I have money for groceries, more power to him. He works VERY hard for his money and deserves his little splurges...and we can certainly afford them. I just feel sorry for people that really, really want one and now they are soooo overpriced, its pretty much impossible to get one. I don't even want to think about how much the actual games to play on it will be. I used to think $30 was bad back in the day, now it's common to pay $60 for some! I hope the increase in the cost of the gaming system won't reflect the price of the games themselves!!
I also LOVE Roller Coaster Tycoon. I like the old version better...probably RCT2 is the best. The one where you can ride it is too hard and bogs down my computer and hangs up all the time. You know, I once had a nightmare where I was trying to track down the phantoms that kept breaking my benches and street lamps. :fr: I can't play it, though, as I end up spending ALL day on it. Then I think, someday when I'm on my deathbed, I'll look back and be really mad at myself that I wasted a perfectly good healthy day on building a make believe amusement park. So, I try to keep playing it to a minimum. Waaaayy too addicting!! |
$600??? Eeek! See, this is why I never buy first-gen tech. Too damn hard on the wallet.
|
I'm looking forward to the ps3, but I do know what you mean about the high prices, myself and my husband play games together alot so I guess its worth it for us, plus I crave new games. I did used to own an xbox 360 but to be honest I lost interest in it pretty fast, I got about half of the way through Oblivian and I enjoyed it at first but after a while I got bored of the repition, and the story wasn't enough to hold my attention. I did beat KOTOR and KOTOR2 on my old xbox though :D
I used to play Zoo Tycoon and Rollarcoaster Tycoon on pc, but my pc at home is broken, and I can't anymore. I love the whole designing a zoo or themepark and then managing it, I really have fun doing that sort of thing. I also used to play Everquest Frontiers on ps2, I had a 34 barbarian shaman, had lots of fun playing through that with my husband. I wanted to play Star Wars Galaxies but my pc was never good enough. So, what is everybody's most looked forward to game which is due to come out? Mine is a close choice between Phantasy Star Universe and FFXII. |
