Here is the thing, my cousin is getting married on Sept 16 and I haven't seen a lot of my extended family for two years. At that time I was around 185 pounds, I am now at 153. I found this dress that I just love at Eddie Bauer earlier this summer and didn't buy it since it was $100. I was looking on ebay and found it new for $20 in a size 8, it would fit me and I really want it to wear but I thought wearing white to a wedding is a no, no. What do you think??
hmmm, not only is it a rule not to wear white to a wedding, but usually not to wear white past labour day. Congratulations on your weightloss, but I"m sure you could find something else.
I consider it a faux pas to wear white to someone else's wedding. We had a family wedding for my step-daughter in July with over 250 people attending. The mother of the bride wore a totally white gown. I cringed, and thought it was pretty crappy. It wasn't that she couldn't afford a different dress, she bought this one new for the wedding.
According to all the fashion mag's it is OK to wear white after labor day now, but I still don't do it.
I agree that you shouldn't wear it to the wedding. But if you love the dress, buy it anyway and save it for a different occasion. Congrats on the weight loss!
Congrats on being able to find the dress for such a good deal but I too wouldnt wear it to a wedding. Look on the bright side....you get to go shop for another fabulous dress to show off the new you! Good Luck !-JJ
I have done it before.
I didnt even think about it being a competition with the bride or anything like that.
It was 1 month ago, I wore white and when I saw my (now ex) bfs brother he said "whoa you're wearing white to a wedding!" and my (now ex) bf said "yeh becareful not to steal the show"
so I guess its not a good thing to do.
But i really didnt think twice about it
If you love the dress so much why not buy it and dye it another colour for the wedding? you then get to wear the fabulous dress and not clash with the bride - everyone wins :-)
As PP have said... wearing white to a wedding, when you are not the bride is a no no. However that being said, why don't you go ahead and buy the dress!! You've done a great job losing weight, why don't you just buy the dress as a YAY ME reward? Just a thought?
