Default Has anyone read the 3 Fat Chicks book?

I was thinking of ordering it from Amazon. They've got it on special right now and was wondering if anyone here has read the book and what they think of it?

I am quoted on page 10, so it must be awesome!

Honestly, I thought it was interesting but wish they had gone farther. They do a really good, detailed job of describing all the different diets, but I wish they spent more time on maintenance. The quotes and experiences of real-life dieters were very interesting and I liked the section that broke diets down for which audience would do the best on them.

The book is devoted to diets, but doesn't really talk about the need to make permanent changes. I dieted and gained weight for 20+ years before I realized it was the "diet mentality" that contributed to my weight problems. You could use the advice and follow any diet listed in the book and lose weight...THEN WHAT HAPPENS. In my experience, losing the weight was never the problem. It was figuring out what to do after I reached my goal weight that was ultimately the key to my long term success.

I did like the book and I bought 2 copies, one for me and one for my mom!

I have read the book-and I really liked it. Basically the administrators have learned so much from all of us here at 3FC who are doing so many different things to lose weight-and they summed it up in their book.
It is wonderful for those who are new, and wanting to change their lifestyle-but don't know where to start. It is great for those who are thinking "Would Weight Watchers or South Beach be a better fit for me?" I think it is wonderful, because so many women start a plan that they cannot stick with for life-and if they knew ahead of time the "pros and cons" of the plan or book they were buying into-then they might have chosen differently and been more successful.
I think the Maintenance section was wonderful, as well as the sections on exercise, and many of the diet plans. I don't believe the book was meant to focus greatly on any one particular subject-such as maintenance-but to give readers a taste of many different weight loss options, based on the experiences of the many members here at 3FC.

I'm going to move this thread to General Chatter. We can have an ongoing book chat there, if that's alright.

I loved the book, btw.

Lucky you, Gloria, having no trouble losing the weight!

I think it is also good for those who have already found a plan that works for them. It is important to understand certain specifics about plans our family and friends are following.. those in cyber space and in the flesh at home. It is a first step in being supportive.

I loved the book too, and as Aphil says, it's very good for those who are contemplating which plan to go for.

I thought there was a chapter missing, or perhaps it could be a book in it's own - Fat Chicks that go it Alone.

Before I joined 3FC I had no idea you could lose weight without following a "plan". You know, WW, JC, SB whatever. I had no idea there was a whole community out here that relearnt habits, taught themselves nutrition, and got out there and exercised.

I'd love others to learn that too!!!

Well, I am a calorie counter-so I follow my "own" plan as well-but I would lump myself in with the WW chapter, I guess, since I "count" even though it is not points.

SusanB - yep, that happened to me too when I got mine! I thought, well I'll just read a few pages and come back to it - yeah right - 1 hour later I finally put it down but only because I had to go out.

I thought the book was good, a fun read and interesting to see what the different plans are and would be helpful for people to get an insight before spending $ on an expensive plan.

I enjoyed the quotes from the 3fc members ( I was too chicken to participate), the humour, the exercise chapter and the recipes. My mum has borrowed my copy and is enjoying it too

I got mine in a Coles/Indigo/Chapters affiliate. What's the American counterpart of that? Chapters?
