Question FitDay PC ($20 software) capability?

Hello all!

I'm trying to enter stuff into FitDay that are custom recipes (Atkins Cilantro Lime Pesto) and it's a real pain!

Is there a way to do this without getting the nutritional info for every single ingredient, adding it up, then punching it in as a custom food? Am I dense and missing something?

I'd go with just regular pesto but the carbs are way off, and heck, maybe more is way off...

So, if the FREE version of FitDay can't really do it, can the $20 version?

Or some other software you know of and love?

(I do really like the other aspects of FitDay with all its little reports on calorie breakdown, fat/protein/carb pie charts, RDA of vitamins and minerals taken in, etc...)

I'm trying to get into the electronic age but it seems weird that there is no easy way to just put in the 6 ingredients and have all the math and data entry done by computer!

Thanks!!

Hi Sarah, I never figured out a way to do it on the online free version. I did purchase it and you can add the name of the custom food, then drop and drag the ingredients from the search list. It will total everything, you just tell it how many servings you make.

I'm really happy with it, the only negative is that it doesn't integrate more with the online site. I would have liked to have imported my old data from the online version to the purchased version, but I don't think it can be done. Also, since the information is stored on your computer now instead of their server, you can't do a public fitday. (At least not that I've seen.)

I've been using FitdayPC since February, after several months on the online version, and I echo everything JTammy said. Custom recipes, PC yes, online no. Transferring history from online to PC, can't be done as far as I know. No public posting from PC, again, as far as I know.

One thing I was worried about when I switched to the PC version was whether I could transfer the info from my desktop to my laptop if I travel. Answer, yes. Just need to make sure FitdayPC software is on your laptop, then use a flashdrive or other portable to transfer the data.

Overall, even with those minor detriments, I like the PC version even more than the online. And I really liked the online!

Thank you, Tammy & Lena!

I ponied up the $19.95 and got the PC version. I like it! Gotta learn it more as I go along heh!

Only thing that bugs me at the moment about it (minor) is that when you enter nutritional info, like 3.5 carb grams, it rounds up to 4.

IMHO, if the label on the package can say 3.5, then I should be able to enter it! I wrote FitDay with my minor beef... maybe in their next upgrade, it won't do that...

If not, I'm sure my OCD about the .5 carb gram will not affect my weight loss

ETA: Wow, FitDay is ON TOP OF THINGS! They already replied with this:

Hi Sarah,

Thanks for the question. Actually, FitDay saves the input as the decimal amount
and uses the decimal amount in calculations. But for the sake of uniformity when
FitDay displays a nutrient amount, it rounds to the nearest whole number. For
example, if you enter 1.5 grams, FitDay saves the input as "1.5" but will
display "2". If you would double the amount of the food, FitDay will display 3
(2 times 1.5) and not 4. The calculations use the decimal amounts.

There is one place in FitDay where you can see decimal values for your nutrition
intakes: the "Nutrient Intake Statistics" report. You'll find this report in the
Reports section under the "Diet Advanced" tab. We understand that this is not
the most convenient place to get this information, but just thought you might
like to know about it.

Please let us know if you have any questions....

Ok, I'm impressed

Ditto! And good for you for writing to the company. I used to do that years ago but just sort of stopped (life got too hectic). I should start doing it again. All of us consumers should!

Anyway, glad you did and glad you got such a thoughtful and timely response!

Thanks! I've never noticed that it rounded up. Good to know that it still calculates the decimal.
