Need Clothes Help!

  • Today's the day I put away the winter clothes and get out the summer ones - yay! And I've got a sweater question for all you clothes experts out there.

I have two sweater sets that are made out the lightest, finest knit silk. And I can't figure out how to store them without wrinkling! I was always taught never to hang sweaters and knits so they don't get droopy and shapeless. But I can't fold these without getting lines in the folds. Is there a trick to folding? Would tissue paper help? Rolling?

    Any insight would be appreciated!
  • Just curious--do the wrinkles stay in the sweaters even after you've worn them for ten or fifteen minutes? Sometimes the heat and movement of your body will relax the wrinkles in a knit garment.

But let's say you've tried that and it doesn't work. You're right about not putting them on a hanger the way you'd hang a shirt. That would ruin the shape of the shoulders. But what about folding them lengthwise, then placing the folded sweaters over a well-padded hanger for storage? That might eliminate some of the fold lines, without the distortions caused by hanging them the regular way.
  • Margarita - that would probably work - when I get sweaters dry-cleaned, they always return them that way, but with tissue between the sweater and the hanger.
  • how about tucking the sleaves in, then rolling the whole sweater up. I do this when Im packing to eliminate wrinkles and saves room.
  • Great suggestions - thanks so much!
