Just wondering how everyone is dealing with ring sizes during dieting?
I've only lost 8 pounds and already my engagement ring is swirling around my finger and I'm afraid it's going to fall off! My wedding band seems just as loose but I think it's staying on better because it doesn't have that heavy stone on it. So I'm thinking of having them resized but wondering if I should just take them off and put them away until I'm closer to my goal weight. I hate to walk around without my rings but I would hate more to lose them or to damage them by having them resized too many times.
I ran into the same problem. I put my engagement ring away because I was afraid that I would lose it. The diamond ring that I always wore on my right hand also got to be too big, so I put that one away too. I really missed wearing them and looked naked without them, so I went to WalMart and bought cheapies until I find out what size my fingers are going to be. Once I start to maintain my weight I'll resize my other ones...or maybe hubby will buy new ones for his "new" wife!
Sadly, I put my poor ring in a little box and shut it away in a drawer . It's my college ring, though...not nearly as big a deal as wedding/engagement rings. Personally, I'd wait to get them resized until you've hit goal weight. My Mom actually wears her wedding ring and engagement ring on a chain around her neck, so that's an idea, too. She does it because my Dad is deceased, but you would only have to do it temporarily.
I am half way to goal and only wear my rings (engagement/wedding bands) when hubby and I go out together or when I have something special to do. I think before Christmas I will get them resized. I am happy to do it although it is sad to not have them on all the time. But Hubby understands, so that is nice.
I had mine resized when I hit my first goal of 135. For a while, I actually wore my wedding band on my middle finger , then I got a cheapy QVC band for a while. Now, after losing another 15 pounds, when I'm eating on plan they are very loose. However, one meal at a Chinese restaurant or a few pretzels, and they are tight for a day or two. I don't think I'll resize again.
I'd wait until you hit goal- even then your fingers aren't always going to be exactly the same size everyday.
Try a ring guard. That's a thin ring that fits you that's worn in front of the larger ring to keep it from sliding off. Maybe you can find a cheap adjustable ring so that you could keep wearing your engagement ring.
rosettastone, once upon a time I had a guard that was spring loaded on my engagement ring. It was so nice and very sturdy, but I haven't been able to locate one. The only ones that I could find were thin gold strips and seemed kind of flimsy and not very comfortable. If anyone knows where to get the spring loaded guards please let us know!
Thanks for the ideas ladies. I think I might find a cheapie ring to fit on the other side of my rings to keep them on. I might resize at my half way point but I'm not sure. That's a long ways away so I have plenty of time to figure it out.
If you're in a pinch and really need to wear your rings until you can find a ring protector or cheapie ring, you can also wrap yarn around the bottom (the part that lies against the inside of your hand). It's visible if someone is staring at the palms of your hands, but it does the trick.
Chickie: I was thinking the same thing with the yarn...and my mom used to put bandaids around the back of her's when she was losing weight.
I have this happening to me, too. BUT, my rings were so tight I couldn't get them off without a ton of soap and lots of work. Now I just need a little wiggle and off they come!
Funny, when I started on my wieght loss journey, I don't remember saying, "Gawd...I can't wait to drop a ring size!!" But it is a sign that things are going in the right direction!!
I wear my engagement ring on my middle finger. When my hands are really cold sometimes I even shift it to my index finger It's an art deco ring from the twenties, so I wasn't sure until recently that I could even get it resized without damaging it. It's on my list of things to do, but I'm not in a particular hurry. Our wedding rings were just plain bands, so we're planning on replacing those with something prettier, probably for our anniversary this year.
I have to put my engagement ring away and I only wear it when I go out or I'm wearing gloves! It fell off once, I found it though, but it's not happening again! I'm going to have it sized once I get to goal. It needs some rhodium plating on it anyways cos it's white gold and the white is wearing off!
I would also go with the suggestion of a ring guard- at least until you reach your goal weight. Losing weight so far hasn't been an issue with me and my wedding/engagement rings. Right now they fit very snugly, because I was thin when I got engaged and married, and have gained so much weight since. So, when I do reach goal weight, they should be okay I think.
I currently wear my rings on my middle fingers! wedding engagement and eternity!
But it is scary that they are feeling a little loose! I don't want to resize them, the engagement and wedding ring is really fine, and has be resized once (stupid me enlarged it while pregnant!) and i don't want to risk resizing it again. ( I think I am also scared that I will regain the weight!)
I figure DH can buy me a new engagement wedding set for our 10th anniversary (next may, should be at my goal!) and he can be romantic and take me out somewhere, (we were going to go for a small holiday without the kids) and he can give them to me!
Of course though I'll have to organize it all, and buy the darned things... LOL!
(I bought my original ones! He thinks I am too picky and that I might as well pick and buy what I really want, instead of being dissappointed and wearing one I don't like!)
(not only rings! MY WATCH!!!!!!!!!! I bought a nice watch last year, I have gone from the 4th notch, this week it is on the second notch!!!!!!!, my DH borrowed it and couldn't believe that my wrists were that small! Considering i am 5 11!!!)
