Thumbs down Am I Hungry??

Okay.. How do you know if you're hungry? I mean, is the only sign of hunger your stomach growling?? Do you just 'feel' hungry in your head or what? I know this may seem like a dumb question, but I've been overweight for so long, I can't tell that I'm hungry unless my stomach is growling.

Maybe MrsJim could help me out on this one?? All of you give such good advice, so I'm wondering..Thanks for any replies, guys!!!

If you think you are hungry and your stomach is growling, drink a glass of water and wait 20 minutes. The growling may subside, if not you probably need to eat something.

if your stomach is actually growling I think you are genuinely hungry. Since being on WW I can now feel the growl and know I must eat. Before I ate when the mood struck me and I didnt know the que's either.

Also since learning portion control, I know I shouldnt be hungry after a meal. Sometimes I have to wait up to 30+ minutes for my "ok ive had enough sustenance' to kick in.

also look at the time of day and compare it to the last time you ate. If its been many hours, your feelings of being hungry are probably true.

I am always having to ask myself if I am really hungry or if I just am wanting to snack. Then if my stomach is growling and a meal is not to far away, but I am preparing it I munch on raw carrots, a dill pickle or something along those lines to tide me over.

There is mouth hunger, and there is actual hunger. these ladies above pinpointed it. I suffer from the inability at times to resist mouth hunger, or mind hunger if you will... I like the water suggestion, thanks !

If you are craving a snack, go for a jog/walk. It has worked for me, and when I get back/shower/dress, it is usually time to eat anyways. It has helped me in a tremendous way!! It sounds so simple, but it is the key. It is also a lot easier than you think.

The "Weigh Down Diet" by Gwen Shamblin addresses TRUE HUNGER in her book. It is EXCELLENT! She says that the more overweight you are..the longer it will take for true hunger..as long as maybe 3-4 days...YIKES!!..but most people will experience true hunger within 36 hours!..This is such an EYE-opening book in so many others areas also! A++++++++++
