Default Do you "sausage" yourself?

Made you look, didn't I?

A little background: I have a very good friend who is beautiful, stylish, and also struggles with her weight. The other day I went over to her house go walking but she hadn't changed out of her work clothes. When she unbuttoned the dress slacks that she has wanted to get back into for a couple of years, she said in relief, "I've wanted to do that all day!" and proceeded to show me where the waist had "cut" her. These weren't deep cuts, and had she not shown me I would not have known that the pants were a tad too small as they fit her every place else. She then said, "Another 5 lbs. and these will fit comfortably and I won't have to sausage myself." That looked about right and I thought it was a great description!

One of the beautiful results of weight loss is to wear things we've never been able to or shop our closets and wear pieces we've outgrown. My question is, do you ever sacrifice comfort to wear something you love but can't quite fit into just yet? Or do you wait until something fits you comfortably and/or perfectly? How uncomfortable are you willing to be?

Discuss.

No. Muffin tops are the WORST. However, I suppose feeling constantly uncomfortable might be incentive to not gain more...

When I was at my heaviest, yes. I was - realistically- a size 20. But I would squeeze myself into my 18's because I really, really didn't want to believe I was a size 20. One of the best parts of losing weight has been my clothing fitting comfortably loose.

Yes and no! I got gradually bigger and got new clothes accordingly since I was a teenager. I didn't really have any old small clothes left, and the few that were was just Tshirts that are far more forgiving then say, pants.

Now that I've lost weight, I haven't replaced the majority of my clothes yet. I own one pair of jeans that fit that doesn't have holes in the thighs. Most my shirts are actually too big for me currently. It's probably why I gained back ten pounds and didn't notice. But had I more small clothes I have no doubt I'd have "sausaged" myself in them.

, I completely agree with both your comments! Nightowlrn. However, in this instance, there was no evidence of a muffin top as she had on the most beautifully cut blouse on that day. Lucky her because I've never had that experience!

Isn't that the most wonderful feeling, EagleRiverDee?! I have jacket I'm currently wearing that fits me snug but is not uncomfortable by any means. However, when I sit down my gut is pressed right up against it. I remember the days not too long ago when I could sit down and have nothing but "empty" bunched up jacket around my waist. It is my own undoing, sad to say.

@SenseAndSensibility and Bigpants: I couldn't agree more! Material makes a big difference. Currently I'm wearing a size Medium A-line black skirt from Eddie Bauer that I've had for years. It has an elastic waist and I wore it when I was 60 pounds lighter. This thing is a workhorse! It's lovely and fits comfortably. I wear it at least once a week. By the way, I'm so not a size Medium

No. I want to be comfortable. I have clothes that look good on me to fit me. Clothes that FIT you look the best on you. You can still be stylish without struggling to breathe. EDIT: I'm currently a size 22.

I do to a point, I'm cheap and stubborn. But one long look in the mirror that rubs me the wrong way and I'm running off to the store for new pants.

Yes. Because I am not going to buy bigger jeans! I currently know I need an 18, because I have gained 15lbs back, but I WILL not go back up in size, so I wear my 16 which are tight!
