Where are you from?
Hey everyone,
I love to hear about different places around the world. Thought it would be fun for people to say something about where they are from and attractions by them. I will start: I am from Western Massachusetts. Fall season ( changing of the leaves) is a real big attraction here. Pumpkin craving and painting. Basketball Hall of Fame, Volleyball Hall of Fame. It is a very quiet area I live in. Weather is nice here. Although this summer has been very hot and humid. (Like most of the US.). Hope others join in. |
Born and raised in Alaska, here. We do not have the beautiful falls that New England is known for (I would love to see it sometime!). Basically our leaves turn yellow and fall off in about a week, haha. We go from summer to winter pretty fast. Summer is a huge time for tourists for us from all over. Winter we still get some tourists, mostly to see the Northern Lights. I love living here, I feel very rooted and don't want to ever leave. In the summer I love hiking, in the winter I love snowmobiling.

Eagle, Thanks for your reply. I have always wanted to go on a cruise to Alaska.
Is it true that you get such huge heads of cabbage etc.? Mary |
I am from Pittsburgh, home of the Steelers, Penquins and Pirates, all great winning teams!! Our weather isn't so great though, and I would love to visit the rest of the country. We get all 4 seasons, which I love, but this year our summer has felt like a sauna, not to my liking. Fall is just around the corner!
Eagle River Dee, DH and I watch that TV show Alaskan Bush People, about a family surviving in the wild. I'm assuming Alaska is not like that everywhere! LOL |
Carol,
Thanks for your reply. Patriots, Bruins fan here. I hear you on the weather. I am sick of being in the house with the AC. I could never live in the south. You ever been to the Amish area? Mary |
Born and raised in South Carolina, then moved to central Washington about 6 months ago. We hope to move somewhere on the west side as soon as we find jobs over there.
|
Central Alberta, Canada here. I've never lived anywhere else.
|
Thanks Lauren and Auntie Jam for your reply.
Auntie Jam I have been to Canada around Niagara Falls Beautiful area. I was impressed how clean and well kept up everything was. Lauren never been to South Carolina or Washington. South Carolina is too hot for me. I have wanted to go to Washington there is so much history there. Mary |
We do indeed get the huge heads of cabbage (as well as huge zucchini and huge pumpkins) in Alaska due to our 20+ hours of daylight in the summer.
And Alaska is nothing like the reality shows in general. Thank goodness! |
I am in Colorado Springs Co. Married no kids.
|
Looks like I am the foreigner :D
I live in a Town called Ayr, which is on the south west coast of Scotland :D We get two seasons here, Winter with rain and wind, then Summer, which is like winter but with slighter warmer rain and wind. |
Hi all!
I'm from southern New Jersey (near Cape May) We've had some interesting weather this year. This summer has been extremely hot and humid! Although I love summer, I am very much looking forward to fall...we usually have awesome falls. |
New York City with a place on the beach to decompress. I've lived in Florida and Vermont. Love New England, one of my favorite places to visit.
|
Thanks everyone for your replies.
I too am sick of the humidity. So glad fall is coming soon. Yes Scotsgirl so far you are the only oversea member to respond. But it just happens to be from one of my favorite places I would like to visit. Eagle wow those pictures of those cabbage heads from Alaska sure could make alot of galumpkie for me. (Polish decent). Best time of the year coming up fairs and foliage season. But they are saying cause of the drought the won't be so vibrant. :(:( Mary |
Hello fromAlbuquerque, New Mexico! Beautiful blue skies, hot chile and delicious margaritas!
|
Mam August is the best time to visit with all the stuff that goes on in Edinburgh at that time of year. But I hope one day you will get to come visit. Bring a rain coat lol
|
Dw i'n byw yng Ghymru - translation - I live in Wales. I live about 12 miles from Caerdydd/Cardiff and, as you can tell, we have our own language. All road signs etc are bilingual - in English and Welsh. Most people have heard of our football team and Gareth Bales. I was born in the same town as Tom Jones - Pontypridd. Unsure what else to write here. Like Scotsgirl we have wet and windy winters although at the moment we are having a lovely autumn with quite warm sunny days interspersed with wet colder ones. Next month our clocks go back an hour to GMT as at the moment we are on BST - British Summer Time.
|
Briallen The first two words you wrote I was like OOhhh she is Welsh!! Ain't no other language like yours lol, can spot it a mile away. I am so glad you get autumn, I am almost positive that the Met office has given us a yellow rain warning for the last few years. Always the problem with the west coast though isnt it lol

Hello everyone! I'm brand new to 3FC. :) I look forward to making friends here and giving and getting information and support. I was born and raised in Minnesota and I'm still here. I'm from northern Minnesota, but live in central Minnesota. I dream of Hawaii...my goal is to move there in the next 5-8 years. :)
|
Hi everyone I'm from Winnipeg or as we call it Winterpeg....... we have 4 seasons and each one it so beautiful but winter.. WOW.... if we get a day with a windchill you can freeze any exposed skin in 3 mins.... all I can say is I AM CANADIAN,and I love all my seasons..... coldest winter was a christmas morning the windchill will 73 below zero....
flip side our summers our the hottest we break records at lest one day a summer |
Hey everyone,
I am enjoying touring the world. Scotsgal I sure do want to go to Scotland. It's on by bucketlist. Briallin I love Tom Jones and Princess Di. Was so upset when she died. Goldie My favorite actresses name. Hawaii sure would be nice to move too. I would miss my seasons we have though. Many people move to warmer climates from here 90% move back though. Oh Canada Didn't realize you got so hot in the summer also. WOW is right that is some windchill. But I always say you can put more clothes on when cold. You can only take so many clothes off. Mary |
Megan,
My neighbors lived there for quite a while they loved the balloon shows. |
My name is Joyce and I am from York, Pennsylvania - 45 minutes to Hershey, PA and all its chocolate glory!
It is really nice to meet all of you! |
Morning Glory I jumped on a Chinese bus tour in NY that went to Hershey PA one year after working at Camp with the kids. The museum is still to date the weirdest and most trippy experience I have ever been to lol. Wish I got to go to the park though.
|
mam1958 - Princess Di was English. Very sore point as our last true Welsh princess was Gwenllian, Llywelyn ap Gruffudd's daughter. My granddaughter, like many other Welsh girls, is named after her.
Scotsgirl - I love Scotland. We went touring there about 45 years ago. We have been having some lovely summer weather here. Friends in a couple of places in England were complaining about the rain (think it was Saturday) and we were basking in the sun. Do you get problems with the midges or is that further north? |
Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Home of the best food in the world, our beloved LSU Tigers and this summer police shootings and floods! Our summers are awful hot but we have mild winters and beautiful spring weather.
|
Thanks for all your replys,
Joyce I have heard that it is beautiful country by you. Briallen sorry it's a sore spot, but I still will hold Princess Di in high regard. Classy lady. What ate midgets? Cakelady one of my best friends is from Baton Rouge area. Loves the tigers also. She was lucky she just missed all that recent flooding. It was at her back deck. Scary. Mary |
Born in Kansas, raised in Texas, currently living in Washington.
I'm in a small little place called DuPont, WA. Right up the road from Olympia and not to far down the road from Seattle. I've been in Washington for 5 years now and I'm loving it. DuPont has lots of trails, its so green and lots of water. The views here are gorgeous. |
Glitch,
You've done some moving around. Sounds nice where you are. Wish you could send us some of that rain. We have had so little this year. Not like that here usually. Everything is so dry. This will ruin the foliage season here. Right now we are having the Big E. At least the weather has gotten cooler here for it. Thx for you reply. Mary |
I live in Western North Carolina. The mountains are beautiful but what I love best is the people. Everyone is so friendly. I've lived here most of my life and even though I wasn't born here, I consider this my home.
|
