Scrunchies?

  • No scrunchies here. I much prefer a sleek ponytail. I have a few tortoise shell accessories that are round or kind of a half moon shape that cover the elastic when I make a ponytail. That's my standard.

However, to sleep in, I don't think you'd find any hair band more comfortable than a scrunchie. I usually loosen my elastic just a bit since I don't care how messy it gets, I just don't want my ponytail to "stick" me in the back of the head when I'm sleeping.

These are hot where I live. I was told that they don't make a bump in your hair. I tried them, but at the gym, it soaks up sweat and is totally wet when I'm through working out. I don't really like them. Young girls wear them as bracelets, and they're always ready for a ponytail at any time!

  • I use them, and always will. But than am not update to date with fashions and have never been in to fashions.
  • I still have a hair scrunchie (made out of hair my color) from probably 8-10 years ago. If I twist it right it mostly just blends in and can't really be seen. But, I'm sure they are probably out of fashion now, also.
  • kaplods is right...I really think it depends on which scrunchie and the occasion. I wear them for casual looks and when I put them in my hair, they don't look like those large decorative scrunchies but I have long hair and chronic daily migraines so they are the most gentle thing. I always wear them at night so that my hair doesn't get tangled. If it's unfashionable, then so be it.
  • Seems scrunchies are a hot topic! lol

I agree with kaplods, I was thinking of the more inconspicuous scrunchies. I am not using them to accessorize for fancy occassions! Although if I saw someone that did i wouldnt care either way.

I've tried all the other sticks and clips, and nothing has held my hair securely like a scrunchie. Especially when working out or running ( i used to run before this baby and the regaining of weight) Everything else seems to get jarred loose with minimal movement. I've actually broken a few barettes trying to force them to hold a section of my hair!!

I also dont wear my scrunchies around my wrist anymore! (90s anyone?) They do go into my purse when not in use.
    But I love my scrunchies!!

    Oh thank you

My sister makes those bands! I have a bag full of them.
As I type this, I'm ready for bed -- and wearing a bright orange scrunchie. I don't typically wear them outside of my apartment, but inside? ALL.THE.TIME!
  • I should say although I love scrunchies, I never wear them outside the home. I find them a critical component when my hair is long. I just cut my hair (~10") so it'll be a few months before I can wear my beloved scrunchies again.
  • I still like plain scrunchies rather than elastics when tying my hair back, which is pretty much anytime I am at home.
  • I wear scrunchies around the house and use them to secure my ponytails and buns. They don't damage my hair like elastic bands. But I only wear them in light brown and very small, not those big poofy things from the 80's. I wear them around the house and for working out, I wouldn't wear them out on the town and if I do wear my hair in a fashionable ponytail I use an elastic band and then cover the band with hair. There's a difference between being comfortable at home and being fashionable. Slippers aren't fashionable either and neither are flip flops but at home it's about comfort and rest. Stilettos are for going out, and if anyone wears them around the house to be fashionable is delusional.
  • I keep picturing

I haven't seen them in stores in AGES! Is that what you guys are talking about?

I have very thick and curly hair (and my daughter does too!)

I use these ouchless elastics for myself, but I use thicker and more satiny elastics on my tender headed, but more curly daughter.
  • I would say the modern equivalent of scrunchies are the little terry cloth hair ties (about 1-2 inches in diameter). They're mostly used for little girls, so they're usually made in intensely bright or pastel colors. I wish I could find them in neutral or hair colors.
  • This is what I'm referring to

And they come in neutral colors, most of mine are brown or black.

those are huge!! Thw ones I wear are much smaller and neutral colors. Basically a cloth covered elastic, minimal cloth, but only b/c I've never been a flashy person, regardless of the stye.
  • I won't wear them in public, only to bed.
