Patiently waiting...NOT

I'm patiently waiting for my doctor's office to call me.

I'm afraid to do anything as I know the phone will ring as soon as I step in the shower, halfway through my treadmill run (when I'm breathing like a cow), while I'm in traffic if I run out for a coffee.

My nurse called me yesterday and left a message that she needs to talk to me but she's leaving now. It's nothing to worry about but she can't leave a detailed message on my phone. She'll call me Thursday morning. Says again not to worry but she needs to talk to me. (I worried ALL night long.)

I called there at 8am this morning. Thursday is the only day they open at 9:30am. I call there at 9:30am and get the answering service. Call at 9:32am and get the answering service. Finally can leave a message for her at 9:35am and am now waiting an hour to find out what I don't have to worry about!!

So this thread is just for me to kill some time. :) Patiently waiting....NOT

elvislover324 05-30-2013 10:39 AM

As soon as I posted this another nurse in the office called to say she got my message. So I'm like "ok". And there is dead silence! I said I'm waiting to hear about what I don't have to worry about!!

She checks my file, there's no notes about the call!! She's going to try and track down that nurse and find out what she called me for.

So I'll patiently wait again!! :)

thnknthin1 05-30-2013 10:50 AM

Oh gosh don't you hate that when they leave messages like that.....leave you hanging. Elvis I'll be anxiously waiting to hear your update.

elvislover324 05-30-2013 10:59 AM

Thanks thnkn!!

I was typing up a more detailed frustrated reply for you and then my phone rang!

They needed to know if I had chicken pox as a child. I wish I knew it was something that simple!!

Phew...

I guess if I change my voicemail to a personal greeting with my name then they can leave detailed messages. But because my phone is just a generic greeting, they can't. Something to do with privacy laws, I never knew!

thnknthin1 05-30-2013 11:11 AM

Well for pete's sake, they could have asked a generic question like that on a VM. :)

Glad that's all it was.

elvislover324 05-30-2013 11:13 AM

LOL seriously! (I only think it's funny because of what it was...it wasn't funny 5 minutes ago before I knew!)

Thanks thinkn. I should have posted my rant earlier, maybe they would have called earlier!!

"Mrs. Elvislover... I don't know how to tell you this, but we just found out that the office scale is off by 10 pounds .... so your true official weight is 202.2."

OMG are you FRESH!!!

It was my fertility doctor and they showed my weight as 190.0 on Tuesday!! Theirs was less than my regular doctor's office!!

I was more nervous it had to do with my fertility drugs. I did all the registration online yesterday morning and then they were calling my insurance company for approval. I figured she was going to say I had a copay of a gazillion dollars...

zoesmom 05-30-2013 11:26 AM

 oh....I have every finger, toes, hair, eyeball, and brain cell crossed for you. So hoping this gets you where you want to be!

Missy Krissy 05-30-2013 11:29 AM

So does this mean that you've changed your vm greeting yet ;)

elvislover324 05-30-2013 11:29 AM

Thanks zoesmom!! We are going to try IUI and keep our fingers crossed.

The thought of giving myself shots makes me want to hurl but I can do it for a baby....

LOL!!! Not yet!! I hate my voice on my phone, that's why I used the generic one with just the phone number! But I guess I have to! :)

betsy2013 05-30-2013 11:48 AM

I'm late reading this thread and I understand the need for the privacy laws, but leaving a message saying we need to talk but don't worry when all they want to know is if you've had chicken pox!!!!! I guess I could see a lot of concern if they were asking you which STDs you've had in life, but chicken pox!!!!

Good luck with the shots. I'm with you that I would have trouble giving myself injections, but would do it for a baby.

I work in a non-profit that deals with individuals with disabilities, so we have to adhere to HIPPA like no tomorrow. The reason for the privacy over everything, even small pox, is due to the 1% that would get offended if this information was given out and who would in turn, sue. What if it had nearly killed them? What if it had spread to shingles? What if someone you don't know took this information and used it to torment you. (i.e. "You never had chicken pox, so you will get shingles and die.") It happens. It is sick. But, it happens. Because of that small percentage, the rest of us have to have insane boundaries. Suck, but the way it is.

You aren't too late, Betsy!! :)

All the STDs came back negative (thank God LOL!) but the chicken pox couldn't be confirmed! I'm glad they take the law so seriously but come on!! Or even if she didn't say which one, just say she has to ask me about one of my vaccinations or something. I wouldn't have been nervous then I don't think.

Thanks Betsy. I'm nervous to do it but so far everything I have done in this journey that I was scared of, I came through with flying colors impressing even myself. It's amazing the inner strength we find when something is so important to our heart.

argh, I know just how you feel. When I had a lot of blood tests done for my back pain (testing for cancers, arthritis etc) and the results came back I got a text from the surgery telling me to make an appointment, which meant something came up. Then I couldnt get an appointment for a week. Turned out my vitamin D levels were low- talk about sleepless week! :dizzy:

Glad you're okay Elvis!

PreciousMissy 05-30-2013 12:30 PM

Now it's time for a run, shower, and coffee!

amandie 05-30-2013 12:54 PM

Yea, I am at the Dr's office and have been waiting for over an hour. Needless to say, I am pissed and anxious. I have a feeling by the time I post this message, the doctor will finally come in.

Glad it wasn't anything serious. Whew!

amandie 05-30-2013 01:02 PM

Yup! I was right- Dr came in as soon as I finished posting! Everything came back normal. Thank god! Thank you so much, Elvislover for your kind words and thoughts! I cried with relief.

OMG amandie, I'm so happy for you!!!!:hug::hug: I know how worried you were for today, and I was worried for you too. Go enjoy the rest of your day (after that awful wait, omg, because the anxiety wasn't enough already nevermind the waiting).

Hopefully everyone will have a good day now!!

And...shower and workout are complete, now for the coffee!! So happy this turned into a good thread. :)

I can't imagine getting that message for surgery, leaves. I would die from anxiety. When I got my cancer diagnosis last summer, I went in for routine test results and both my husband and I were told to have a seat (I didn't even know they tested for cancer but I guess it's routine...). The wait for the next couple of weeks and getting 2nd opinions from oncologists and pathologists were the worst of my life. But somehow I made it and while I still have a long road ahead, I will never NOT be afraid of waiting for test results or a doctor's phone call for the rest of my life. I got broadsided with the cancer diagnosis and was so unprepared (is there a way to prepare? I don't think so...) but I had no symptoms, nothing that required urgent attention, I thought I was healthy (except living large)!

Not exactly the same, but due to an injury last year I had to give myself injections twice a day for several weeks. Before the first time is the worst. First time is scary. After that, not so bad really. And I hate needles!

It's the same thing to me, it's a NEEDLE!! I'll think of you the first time I have to do it, if you can be brave then so can I!

Arctic Mama 05-30-2013 06:49 PM

Whew, I'm glad it was simple! And a good question to ask, given the risk factors for exposure while pregnant :)

Yep!! I have been asked every question in the book, had all kinds of tests, you name it they checked it!! But I guess the chicken pox came back as equivocal so they just needed me to confirm I had them or I'd have to get a vaccine.

Now I got a call saying my insurance won't cover some of the prescriptions I will be taking. Where does it end?! At this point I'd pay a million bucks. Jumping through all these hoops should at least count for exercise! :D

I think it's like a PTSD. For me, whenever I have a medical test now I expect to get bad news. Not in an offhand kind of way, but in a manic prepare for the worst kind of way. I'm hoping it gets better with time.

Me too, newleaf, me too.

A few months ago I had blood drawn for cholesterol and requested to also test for HIV since I worked in dental and came into contact with blood on several occasions. I no longer work in dental though, thank God. So Doc calls 2 days later and leaves a voice mail that I have an "abnormal test result" and to please call back. O_O

It was my cholesterol but still....I almost had a freaking heart attack.

Wow, yeah, who wouldn't??! I think that doctors' offices just shouldn't leave messages if it isn't urgent, but just try again the next day.

OMG I can't imagine what you must have gone through, that's awful. Even when my nurse told me not to worry, it's easy for her to say!!
