It amazes me too because skinny bashing seems more frequent and okay on this forum lately. Her friend didn't bash her weight. Her friend posted a photo. People can make assumptions on the friends alterior motives but its just as likely that friend just posted a picture of her and her buddy having a good time and people let their insecturities paint a different picture. Not everyone goes through life thinking about other peoples weights and setting up their motives because of the other persons weight. Some people *hardly* think at all of other peoples weights. If that girl won't remove a picture after being told seriously why the op doesn't like it then she isn't much of a friend . The ops already said she knows its not right to call her friend names , I understand people can be frustrated, so lets move past that issue and agree to disagree on skinny bashing.
  • Has the picture been taken down yet? I think that will speak volumes for your friendship.
  • I used to be quite thin (5'5 & 110lbs) and I have to say, that nothing I did specifically targeted my friends weight (for example, my closest friend was 200lbs, I loved pictures of us together because... she's my friend!). I think sometimes when we are upset about our own weight, we think .t can be a centre of other people's attention, when really, the rest of the world does not think the same way.

Imagine all those brides who are trying desperately to lose 5lbs before their wedding. Have any of us guests actually noticed or cared??? I think this is a self-view that we impose on others.

I think your friend had a duh moment and forgot you didn't want your picture up. Or worse, she didn't care (some people are like this - my mom does). Time to just tell her to respect your privacy again or you won't be taking pictures with her. Sorry that happened to you, my mother does this too and now I have deleted my FB.

This is more of an FB etiquette problem than anything to do with weight.
Besides, she is a normal healthy weight anyways, I don't think any girl with a 20 BMI would necessarily consider herself "skinny" (normal, slim, yes,... skinny, no). Again, that is probably a projection.
  • I think if you love a picture, print it out and frame it but don't post pictures of friends on Facebook if they ask you not to. Plain and simple. I go to a party and there's always someone there with a big camera in my face taking pictures. I'll turn around or walk away because once the picture is taken, I have no control. I wish that there was some universal Facebook picture posting etiquette that people would follow.
  • Why is everyone ganging up on OP for something her boyfriend said? Who cares...he made a little jab IN PRIVATE to his girlfriend. No one has done that before? Now if OP had posted the picture of her friend with a caption reading "Look at Skeletor!" that would be something else entirely. Maybe I'm just cattier than most of you.

Thank you! I do not understand the whole going against the OP here. Her boyfriend said something, she let us know what he said. It was a private comment. It really has nothing to do with the main issue - her friend posting a picture that she specifically asked not to be posted.
  • The way I see it, the OP has shown sensitivity throughout.

The OP's friend is probably not even aware that people think she is under weight. Her friends obviously have not mentioned her weight to her and leave it as her business. The OP's friend is blissfully unaware that she has been called Skeletor. The OP has made a decision to not tell her friend either of these truths. It is not her battle and her friend has not asked for her input.

The OP's friend knows that the OP did not like the photo. The OP's friend has been asked to take the photo down. The Op's friend knows that weight is a sensitive subject for the OP. She knows that she has made someone else uncomfortable and chooses not to simply delete the photo.

The OP's friend is the one being insensitive in this situation. The OP bears no fault and is justified in her frustration because it is a photo of her, being displayed to the world. The weight difference was only mentioned in the forum post to put the photo incident in context since we are unable to view the photo.
  • OP - I do think it was wrong of her to post the photo after you asked her not to! I definitely can understand your frustration!!! I hope she takes it down out of respect for you and your friendship! Just out of curiosity, if it was a different friend, one that wasn't thin, would you have been ok with a pic on FB?

RE: Skeletor comment - since it was her fiance that said it I feel like it's a non-issue in regards to the OP's complaint!

HOWEVER, unreltaed to Skeletor comment but related to something brought up on this thread, I agree that skinny bashing has really become somewhat of an issue on the forum recently, so much so that I don't come on as much.
  • This thread cracks me up.

This poor girl came on here to vent about a sh*tty situation for HER. Not for any of you, but for her. And suddenly, it turns to be this whole you're a monster for calling your fiance calling her Skeletor.

Honestly, I think she was trying to illustrate how thin her friend is. No more - no less. My god... this forum is suppose to be a place where people come for support, not to be torn down even more.

Hey OP - sorry your friend was sh*tty! Hope your day gets better!

this x1000! I'm with you, OP.
  • I'm concerned that more than one person feels that there is an increase in skinny bashing here at 3FC. Remember you can always report posts, because skinny bashing (or bashing anyone's body) is not ok here at 3FC.

Regardless of what the OP's boyfriend said, I think the OP has received some helpful replies so I am closing this now.
