What is the grossest "healthy"/new food you've tried?
This time 'round I've tried to be open to trying new things. Especially things that are low calorie and/or are healthy-ish.
Quite a few weeks ago I was at Sprouts and was so hungry, I bought some dried sea weed to munch on. I figured WOW it's totally low cal and it probably just tastes really salty. For the love of all that is holy it was the most disgusting thing ever.
I also tried coconut water. I seriously do not know how anyone drinks that. It tastes like vomit! So gross.
I'm still totally open to trying new things, but man did those two make me a little gun shy! On a good note, most of the new veggies I've ventured to try I've really liked.
Have you tried anything new that was just plain gross?
Dried seaweed is SO GOOD dude! But then again I love dried squid and other gross bounties of the sea that most people find revolting. I can sit and eat kimchi with a fork.
Never had coconut water but I don't like vomit so that's not much of a recommendation.
There are very few foods I unilaterally dislike. Pickling is big in summer/early fall and I don't care for dill-pickled anything.
Agree with you about coconut water! can't stand it. A lot of the 'healthy' protein type bars are super gross to me.
An odd thing: I like raspberries, but I have to check every single one before I eat it because I have a silly fear that there will be a bug inside one of them. It's such a pain to sit there and inspect each one...
"Wonder Noodles" - don't remember who makes them but they're 0/0/0 and honestly - I couldn't even choke them down after sauteeing in garlic!!! And I'll eat just about anything (insert joke here ...)
Acai berry juice. I don't know if it had expired & gone bad, but it was truly horrible (and expensive!). Poured it down the drain & will probably never try it again.
LockItUp - I'm totally with you on the coconut water. Blech! I have to disagree on the seaweed though... I'm with Krampus because I love it! I love sushi though, and it's the same seaweed (nori) that is used in most rolls.
Krampus - I like pickled things, but now that I think about it I realize it's actually been a long time since I've had anything pickled. I guess I don't like it THAT much, huh?
QuietBallerina - I love raspberries too, but I check mine for a different reason; MOLD! They go bad so quickly I swear I can bring them home and they are turning the very next day.
HealthyAngie - Any shiritake noodles are awesome in my book. I actually love how they taste and I get so creative with them. More for me!
SoMuchFattitude - Margarine. Eww... I just don't like fake crap.
I like Quest Bars for when I'm traveling, but I recently tried one that was not good at all; Coconut Cashew flavor. I like the rest of them just fine, but I literally had one bite of this and passed it to my hubby. I also tried adding proscuitto to some of my meals lately and wasn't super happy with them. Something about it was just a bit skunky, even though I remember liking it before.
Honestly outside of that, I think I've really enjoyed most of the new things I have tried lately.
the grossest things ive ever eaten in my life include spaghetti-Os and boiled octopus
i cant think of "healthy" things that i've tried that i dont like, although i'm picky on the vegetables...i dont like squash but it's not the worst thing i've ever had either
one day my BIL came home with a little octopus fresh from the ocean...we plopped it in boiling water and cooked it up...he whacked off a tentacle and fed it to me...it was disgusting....like hot salty seawater, more or less...ugh...i also dont like boiled herring eggs
Cottage cheese. I assumed I'd like it, because I love Greek yogurt. Nope. It was the texture that did me in. I was stubborn, though. I ate probably a dozen-and-a-half bites, despite hating the first one in a way that I've never hated another food before.
Yay, so exciting! This'll be something new in my healthy foods list...
*bite* *gag*
Well, the second bite is going to be better. Just have to get used to it.

Third time's the charm!
*bite* *gag* This time...

What's weird is I LOVE sushi, and the nori that is used in most of the rolls. Maybe it was the texture. It was paper thin and reminded me of those breath strips and tasted like fishy ocean (go figure LOL). In a sushi roll it just seems to make sense and isn't all dry and paper thin. Idk! I guess it's kind of like how I can't stand raw tomatoes alone, yet I love fresh salsa, marinara sauce, and basically all things made of tomatoes.

Ha, I'm the opposite of that. I LOVE raw tomatoes but HATE cooked ones. Blegh! It's the too-soft texture. Weird, I know. My mom was always sweet and would either make my spaghetti sauce separate and pureed, or make the whole batch pureed for me. I can't eat most people's spaghettis (or other pasta dishes using marinara) for this reason.
It's weird, for me overall, cooked veggies are a huge can't-do (corn, broccoli, asparagus, and legumes are the exceptions). But in relevant and recent good news, not but a month ago I conquered my least favorite food ever; Onions! I HAAAAAAAAAATED onions more than anything! Raw? Cooked? Both were revolting. But then my employer, who is super sweet and super supportive of my diet (she's been a maintainer in the 120s, from 197 at her highest, for 14 years) had me try triscuits with this Greek, low-cal, yogurt-based, dip with raw red onions and other raw veggies mixed in, and because I'd not eaten in over 24 hours, the strangest thing happened in my head and the dip actually looked good to me, lol. So long story short, I tried it, liked it, and now eat red onions (but only red and only raw - white are still too soft).
Bean sprouts though are one of the worst-tasting healthy things I can recall ever eating. Hate them oh so much! Meanwhile alfalfa sprouts are my jam. Yeah, I don't get me either.
