I have been wanting to get a tattoo for a few years now and cannot decide on a design. I want something meaningful, not just artsy. I would like the design to also be small, I'm not looking for anything that would cover a major portion of my body.
I've gone to several tattoo design websites and can't find anything that I like.
If anyone has any ideas for or descriptions of tattoos that are meaningful to them that they might have gotten I'd like to hear about them. I'm hoping other ideas will inspire me to come up with one of my own.
My hubby had his done in toronto Ontario, this is the website for the place he used. They do incredible work (a bit far for you lol) but you might be able to get some ideas off the site.
Thanks Robin!! I've been doing some serious thinking and I think I have come up with a design that I want. I just have to check out this new shop first, and if it looks ok, see if they can draw it up for me. Maybe this site will have what I'm looking for, or even something better!!
My tatoo is "cat" (my initials and nickname) in chinese... a friend of mine has "star" in Japanese on her arm. If you have a word or phrase that you can get in chinese or japanese or whatever, they are pretty cool... just an idea.
i have also been contemplating a tattoo for some years now. i even know what i want. i want an elephant tattooed on my back - a small one, with the trunk up. however i am worried about two things - pain and ink allergies. i heard that some people have allergic reactions to the ink, especially the red color and i want red in the tattoo.
It hurts to some degree, I have one on the small of my back on my spine... But hey, it's expected and what I did was just relax and accepted it as temporary. I am pretty sure that giving birth is A LOT more painful.
As for allergies, if that is a concern, talk to your tattoo artist AND your allergist. Basically find out what ingredients are in the dyes used etc.
Oh I have a butterfly on my back to represent my losing weight and becoming an adult
My first one did hurt, and I won't lie. But it didnt' hurt so terribly that I had the artist stop working. He did give me some breaks (he said he usually did that for all customers) but it only took an hour to complete to the best of my recollection.
The design I'm now thinking of is a cover up of my original tat (on my right shoulder blade) I don't know how cover ups work, and if it is possible to put what I want over what I have but I'm going to check with the shop and see.
I think I've decided to get a butterfly also, but somewhere I went from wanting one that was this awesome blue I saw to a metal (almost chrome looking one). I wanted something to signify beauty and strength and I really kinda dig the idea.
Anyway, I'm probably going to check them out next friday and ask all my questions but I won't get it until summer. (Gotta save those $$'s to pay for it they can sure get expensive)
I am also thinking about a tattoo. The ones I want are a unicorn. another is the name of a child that past away and the date she passed away on. third I want taz on my ankle. But I am afraid of the pain.
I've never had one on my ankle but I've heard it is one of the sensitive areas, simply because there isn't a lot of soft tissue to cushion the needle. I also thought about getting my son's name, though he is still living. I think it's the most beautiful tribute to a child, living or past.
i have two one on my arm i got when i was 19 its the logo of my fav football team. my second is a tiger sat with two orchids. pink and purple ones its on my left calf on the outside and is aboutr 6" high and 4" wide. it took around 90mins and didn't hurt that much at all. i wanted a tiger cos they are magnificent creatures. and with the flowers it just looks so cool.
ok 'ive been informed my tiger is with two tiger lillies now orchids. shows how horticultural i am. well if you wanna look at it really good art work very proud of it. you can its at www.geocities.com/notsobigsi
I have three tattoos..One I got at 18, one at 23, and one a few weeks ago at 28. In five more years I'll probably get another one. LOL My dragon is on my outer right bicep, my panther on my outer left, and I just got the Kanji (Japanese) character for "Warrior" on the side of my right thigh.
It does hurt, but nothing so bad that you feel the need to quit. The outline is the worst, especially if the artist is going near sensitive skin or a place on your body where you don't have a lot of fat.
Tattoo artists are actually quite talented, and many of them can sketch what you're looking for. When they slap the outline on you, don't be afraid to ask them to move it if it isn't quite right. I had her do that with my Kanji one three times because it wasn't positioned just where I wanted it. Remember that it is permanent, so just be sure about it.
