What Are You Reading AUGUST 2012

Happy August everyone! Please share with us what you are currently reading and what you have planned coming down this month.

Right now I am half way through A Rip in Heaven And it is very disturbing so far. An unreal true story.

CanadianCutie 08-01-2012 11:30 AM

I'm about 1/3 of the way through The Road. Excellent, but very dark. If I can find a copy of one of Maeve Binchy's novels that I have I will reread one of those next. She's one of my favorite authors and she passed away very recently.

katiekish 08-01-2012 11:31 AM

This is the first month in over a year that I've had time to read something not related to my thesis work! I started Behind the Beautiful Forevers today. I also hope to read Night Circus and Secret Daughter this month.

(can't link to them because my post count isn't high enough)

The road is one of my favorite books!

Kitcherella 08-01-2012 11:48 AM

I am reading Catch-22. I didn't finish/like Portnoy's Complaint.

alinnell 08-01-2012 12:07 PM

I just finished re-reading The Great Gatsby. I figured I ought to refresh myself before the movie comes out. I'm glad I did. It's a quick read and I had really forgotten quite a bit of it.

Next up? Who knows--I must have a dozen new books on my Kindle!

LadyPetite 08-01-2012 12:25 PM

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I intend to finish the series before the end of summer.

Quiet Ballerina 08-01-2012 01:07 PM

Just finished "Catching Fire" (second book in Hunger Games trilogy) and will eagerly start reading Mockingjay this weekend. Woo!

Clydegirl 08-01-2012 04:39 PM

I'm reading "The Historian" by Elizabeth Kostova.

My first vampire book. Didn't know if I would like it but can't put it down.

LeilaJey 08-01-2012 05:08 PM

God Is Not Great by Christopher Hitchens

Glory87 08-01-2012 07:37 PM

I'm about halfway through with Redshirts. A must for any Star Trek fan.

And here I thought you'd be totally engrossed in What to Expect When You're Expecting. Congrats!!!! (I missed your thread in maintainers and saw your post on FB this morning!)

I'm a big Hitchens fan! That book is a great read.

westcoast rosa 08-02-2012 12:43 AM

I am currently reading 'Me Talk Pretty One Day' by David Sedaris. It has made me laugh out loud! A great read.

Not sure what is next for me.

LaceyCen 08-02-2012 10:21 AM

Re-reading Pride and Prejudice. Love that book so much.

Also listening to the Harry Potter audio book series again, good way to pass the time at work and on the road.

Ha, I'm four months pregnant! I read that a few months ago ;)

That was the book that spurred my weight loss when my DS was born. He is my 2nd child. Just before becoming pregnant with my DD, I had done a full set of body measurements and goals and wrote them all down. Then found out I was pregnant and decided not to pursue weight loss. 4 years later, pregnant again, I pulled out the book and found the paper with all the measurements. I was still the same weight! I decided right then and there to devote myself to dieting after I had my baby. And I did! 6 months after he was born, I started and lost somewhere around 40 pounds.

gardenerjoy 08-03-2012 10:02 AM

I'm reading The Good Food Revolution by Will Allen. I wasn't expecting it to be as much memoir as it is, but I'm glad. That's making it much more riveting than I imagined it would be.

themusicalfruit 08-03-2012 03:09 PM

Insomnia by Stephen King

sept2012 08-03-2012 03:16 PM

Secrets of a Former Fat Girl by Lisa Delaney - if you want real motivation you should try this one and also Half ***- memoir by Jennett Fulda. Great reads...

gardenerjoy 08-05-2012 09:46 AM

I liked Jennette Fulda's memoir, sept2012. My other favorite weight loss memoir was Born Round by Frank Brun. Can you imagine losing your weight and then being asked to be New York Times restaurant critic?

Wisertime 08-05-2012 10:53 AM

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

alinnell 08-05-2012 11:02 AM

I'm reading The Drop by Michael Connelly.

Loved Gone Girl!

theox 08-05-2012 12:31 PM

The Complete Idiot's Guide to Understanding Buddhism, and possibly also The Double Helix, if I can make time for it before classes start.

Sinoia 08-06-2012 12:09 AM

The Hero of Ages ... Brandon Sanderson. I downloaded it onto the Kindle not knowing the author and without a great deal of enthusiasm but I felt like taking a stab in the dark. Well written fantasy and holding interest so I have hopes for it and the sequels.

FrouFrou 08-06-2012 10:44 AM

I have God is Not Great on my list of To Read!

Just read The Road and now on Diary of a Mad Fat Girl by Stephanie McAfee

Happy Reading!

Smiling_Sara 08-13-2012 03:33 PM

Fifty Shades Darker. About 100 pages in. It's not really my cup of tea in the subject matter, but I do want to finish the series.

Just finished that one. Best book I've read in awhile.

Dreamer2012 08-13-2012 05:51 PM

I'm rereading the Harry Potter series. Started last week and I reckon I'll finish the second book tonight and move onto the third tomorrow.

I finished that last week and yes, I liked it a lot! I also just finished "Tigers in Red Weather" by Liza Klaussman. Next on my list is "The Guernsey Literary Club & Potato Peel Society" (that might not be quite right....I don't have it in front of me).

alinnell 08-17-2012 09:37 PM

Dear God, why do I do this to myself? I'm reading A Dog's Purpose. I cried and cried last night and have the last 1/4 of the book to read tonight.

Not buying the sequel (I think).

alinnell 08-18-2012 10:30 AM

Finished A Dog's Purpose and started another one with a dog on the cover, Leader of the Pack by David Rosenfelt. So far I like it a lot. It's funny, there's a dog in it, I can "hear" the New Jersey accent. It's the latest in a string of lawyer books--I may have to look at his others when I'm done with this one.

helwa588 08-18-2012 11:36 AM

The hunger games.

Glory87 08-18-2012 12:16 PM

I just finished reading Tiny Beautiful Things by Cheryl Strayed (current best selling author of Wild) and it was unbelievably good. I rarely 5 star books, but this one earned 5 stars. It's a collection of advice column letters/responses which sounds hokey (Dear Abby, really?) but is beautifully written and immensely powerful. I confess to sobbing out loud many times.

Many of the letters resonate with me personally: a mother who had a late miscarriage, a man questioning whether he should have children, the author's story of a yard sale purchase that had a huge impact 15 years later.

Beautiful and touching.

CanadianCutie 08-18-2012 07:21 PM

Just started Scarlet Feather by Maeve Binchy (a favorite author of mine who passed away recently. It is one of the few novels of hers that I hadn't read before.

Gogirl008 08-18-2012 11:03 PM

Just finished Saving Cee Cee Hunicutt. Loved it. Very southern, warm and nurturing.

kelly315 08-18-2012 11:07 PM

Just started the first book of "Game of Thrones" and it's sooo good!

sensualappeal 08-19-2012 12:21 AM

I just finished reading "Drop Dead Healthy" and I LOVED IT.
I am currently in the middle of Fifty Shades 2nd book and Creative Visualization (eh) and I'm anxiously awaiting getting Gone Girl!

tjhenry07 08-20-2012 11:04 PM

I am about to start reading "The Little Friend". I don't know anything about this book and I'm honestly skeptical about it...
