Those were NOT fans. They are nothing more than gangland thugs.

I pray that this terrible tragedy doesn't repeat itself anywhere else!

And then there's the Manny Retirement story..... and I was looking forward to he and Damon getting heckled out there..

EZMONEY 04-08-2011 07:06 PM

C~YA MANNY

and thanks for the month and year you were with us...it was a blast....brought life back....but then....as you always did you sucked the life right back out of us....

BillBlueEyes 04-08-2011 09:44 PM

Welcome to the beginning of the Red Sox season.

We just had to get the right team to beat.

Joining with our Dodger brethren waving goodby to Manny. Remembering fondly the part that was a good run here at the Nation.

Clydegirl 04-08-2011 10:38 PM

That was a hard one to lose in extra innings.

Our closer blew the save. His second blown save of the season :(

cbmare 04-09-2011 01:03 AM

Go Giants!

Shannon in ATL 04-09-2011 11:06 AM

I totally missed the start of this thread, thought about it last night and came searching for it today. Is it too late to pop in?

I'm still with the same teams I followed last year - Braves are my home team, Red Sox are my fantasy team.

Hi Shannon. Welcome back.

I will add you to the fantasy game.

manders01 04-09-2011 01:54 PM

Think I might be glad I decided to go out last night instead of staying home to watch the Sox. :(

But super excited today! I thought they were on FOX today (the Sox are rarely the team shown in Denver) but just got a wonderful surprise that they are in fact on WGN so I will actually get to watch the ballgame! YAY! :cb:

xLindsay46 04-09-2011 07:56 PM

Just checking in with a question--

Any of you ever travel alone for games? I usually go to Red Sox home games alone. But would love to experience a new ball park, such as Camden Yards since I'd be able to get cheap tickets to see the Sox play the Orioles and it would be a cheap trip from where I live. I just don't really have any experience traveling alone, so it may be difficult. Any suggestions or personal experiences that you would like to share?

Meanwhile, Sox start 1-7, but they'll win their next 6 and be back to .500 in no time ;) haha

manders01 04-09-2011 08:09 PM

WOO-HOO!!!! Another win for my Sox!!! :cheer2: Listening to the Rockies right now, hoping they bounce back from their loss last night as well as the Sox did.

I have. I went to KC for the Sox series two summers ago. I drove home (central IL) and then drove back here via KC. Went to two games and the Royals fans were super friendly. I stayed at the Sox hotel which is in Country Club Plaza. Went to dinner in the Plaza and saw many of the Sox players out and about. It was a GREAT time though I wish I would have had a chance to explore the area / KC a little more. I plan on going back though so I'm sure I will eventually.

I found out all the info about the best places to stay, what to do, etc. from people on the White Sox message board I belong to. While I'm sure you will get a lot of good information here, I think if you visit the Red Sox message boards (Talk Sox, Sons of Sam Horn and Red Sox Nation) and pose your question there, you will get the best information for a great BoSox experience in another city. Have fun!

Clydegirl 04-09-2011 08:37 PM

Lindsay I heard that Camden Yards is a really nice ballpark.

I haven't gone to away games on my own so can't help you there.

Manders we went to Kauffman last year for the Cards series. There were more Cards fans than Royals fans. A fun weekend at a nice ballpark. That jumbotron is huge.

REALLY liked the ballpark. Hadn't been there prior to the renovation so I don't know how much nicer it got but thought it was great. Very inexpensive tickets (poor Royals) and I was right behind home plate for both games. The beer guy for my section remembered me after I bought my first beer, mainly because of my CO driver's license and I was the only person he sold Coors Light to, and took amazing care of me. Every Royals fan around me for both games, not that there were many (poor Royals) were so nice. Some friendly ribbing but mostly just great conversation. If the Sox weren't here this season, I would be going there for my yearly regular season Sox series. Next year though!

Not surprised there were more Cards fans (poor Royals). :D

XLMuffnTop 04-09-2011 09:44 PM

Darn Baltimore! Texas lost their undefeated status and got shut out the first game of a double header.

I can take solace in the fact the second game is in the 7th inning and we're up 9-1. :carrot:

manders01 04-09-2011 10:40 PM

Rockies win!

Having both my favorite teams win makes my days infinitely better. They need to keep it up! :D

LOOKING GOOD against the kidnappers padres so far....

Sweetcaroline 04-10-2011 12:08 AM

:(

Clydegirl 04-10-2011 12:47 AM

So our "closer" has now blown 3 saves out of 4.

Are you kidding me?

I'm having flashbacks of Izzy.

Franklin is not a closer. When will Tony LaRussa realise that.

Unbelievable :(

I was hoping Marichal would be there. Did you see the announcers get their rings, too? I never heard if Renel got one for her announcing at the park.

I hate Comcast. Today was the ceremony for Buster Posey for being Rookie of the Year. Will Clark and some other past rookies were there. :mad:Comcast blocked the ceremony. They joined the game during the bottom of the 1st.

Clydegirl 04-10-2011 07:03 PM

Cards win, yes.

Matt Holliday is back. So glad to see him in the line-up.

Now on to Arizona.

EZMONEY 04-10-2011 07:08 PM

Well the kidnapper got one from us...but on a high note he was at the game with my  daughter  and missed watching THE MASTERS :D with my son and I as we 3 have done for the last several years....

dang....but 2/3 is good!

Sweetcaroline 04-10-2011 10:53 PM

In Boston playing Yankees... and holding my breath...
You all know how much I love these ESPN games...

Juan Marichal and Monte Irvin were not able to there but they will get their rings. Jose Uribe who is now with the Dodgers (Groan ) will get his in a private ceremony when LA comes to town .
I thought it was neat the first ring went to their equipment manager who started as a bat boy in 1958 !!!!
I only saw Willie Mays play once and that was at an Old Timers Game. That was more for fun than a serious game. Joe Dimaggio was there, too although he didn't play, he was in uniform though.

Stepping Out 04-11-2011 01:31 AM

Things are looking up...

4-0 Sox! Josh Beckett!

bargoo 04-11-2011 10:33 AM

LA is in town (SF) for a three game series, The security is very tight as you can imagine. Todays game is being dedicated to Bryan Stow who was savagely beaten in LA on opening day after the game. He is still in a coma in a LA hospital. The giants are taking donations today to help with Hospital Expenses.

Shannon in ATL 04-11-2011 11:08 AM

My Braves are not doing such a great job this year... Chipper Jones pulled in his 2500th hit at our home opener, which was nice though.

cbmare 04-11-2011 07:55 PM

Comcast Sportsnet is replaying parts of the parade and having some of the Giants commenting on what their feelings were.

I can only hope and pray that some of the fans don't lower themselves to that moronic gangland thug mentality tonight.

Go Giants! Beat L.A! But only on the ball field.

Sweetcaroline 04-11-2011 08:05 PM

I blinked and sox are down 7-0 in the second....... hit the showers Dice-K.

manders01 04-11-2011 11:47 PM

Ugh! Heartbreaking loss by my Sox. Mark Buehrle pitched a FANTASTIC game and really deserved the W. But unfortunately, Juan Pierre lost a fly ball in the lights and dropped it which allowed the runner to score from second, tying the game at 1 in the 9th. Kurt Suzuki hit an HR in the top of the 10th and we didn't do anything about it. Go get 'em tomorrow boys!

Rockies won so there is a bright spot to the evening! :)

Woot! I just hope the Rangers can keep it up and don't crash and burn soon. ;)

Had to keep tabs on the game vs. Detroit yesterday on MLB gameday online. Boo. I'm too far away to get any games on the radio and I'm pretty sure they won't let me install a big 50" LCD in my office. Big party poopers.

EZMONEY 04-12-2011 10:30 PM

WE own those giants so far this year...dang Furcal out for 4-6 weeks with a broken thumb....
