in case anyone was curious about whether or not...
there are any decent people left in the world, please read.
I just returned back from a 10 day holiday in England and Wales on Sunday night. I thought I would be okay to jump straight back into work on Monday because I travel a lot and thought the jet lag wouldn't bother me. When I got home Sunday night, I realised that my husband hadn't restocked the fridge with the essentials, so I planned to take my lunch hour on Monday to run to the grocery and grab milk and bread and such. I also planned to run to the bank to put all my cash that I had taken out for my trip back into my account. There was around $800.
Well, evidently I was more jet lagged than I had accounted for, because I left my wallet, cash and all, in the shopping cart and returned to work. It was about an hour before I realised my mistake, and immediately called the grocery in a panic, asking them to please check the carts. The kid on the other end said "We just had a wallet turned in about ten minutes ago, what does yours look like?" I described it to him and he said "yes, that's already been turned in." I frantically asked him to please check if there was any cash left in it. He opened it and said, "I'm sorry, the cash is gone." I was in an all out panic attack by this point, bawling, barely able to breathe, shaking. I drove way too fast back to the grocery and ran up to the customer service counter. The kid, couldn't have been more than 16, looked at me and said, "I feel like such a jerk." I asked him why (in between sobs), and he said, "As soon as you hung up I realised that there were two pockets to your wallet. I checked the other one. I tried to call you back but I couldn't figure out which number was yours. Your money is still in there."
At this point I was reduced to sobs on the floor of the grocery. Someone located my wallet and turned it in, did not steal the large amount of cash that was in there, nor any of my credit cards. There really are good people left in this world, and I'm so thankful that this one found me.
aww thats great you got your money back. i've found countless mobile phones, mp3 players, purses and wallets and always hand them in. i've also lost my phone and purse many times and about 8/10 times i've gotten them back. my ex's cousin found a brand new ps3 on the bus and kept it, i was really disgusted thinking that was probably some kids xmas present or something. some people have no conscience, luckily some people do.
Aw I'm so sorry you cried but so happy that everything was found and returned to you!
Yes I agree- there are a lot of good people left in the world. The other day my friend told me that she doesn't want to have kids anymore because of how the world is and she was watching all the crazy things kids do to themselves. And I told her the news does NOT report the good stuff- for every bad thing you see I guarantee there are 100 good things
We, the human race, are saved! I'm so glad you were able to get everything back. For all the horrible stories of deranged murderers and perverts we hear on the news, I like to think positive stories of trust and good samaritanism like your story happen every day.
I had a similar situation happen to me - a couple years back I left my purse containing my passport, wallet, camera, and pretty much all valuables at a train station on a bench while in transit to the airport. Got halfway there and realized it was missing. A very helpful station attendant helped me file my police report (Japanese isn't my first language...) and just as I was starting to cry at the idea of having to cancel all my cards and go through weeks and months of paperwork **** on top of being squat broke and missing my 2 week vacation to Europe, the station attendant informed me my purse had been returned. I went back to the original station and had a happy reunion with my purse. Everything was still in place, though someone had zipped it shut (it was open).
Let me tell you, I've NEVER been happier to fork over $150 to reschedule a 10 hour flight for 24 hours later.
We had a guy turn in a credit card that had been dropped outside the store. The lady had just been in our store, so we looked up her phone number and called her. She was so thankful they had turned it in rather than going on a spending spree!
I am happy that your wallet was turned in. Its nice to know there are still good people out there.
