  • Anyone see it? She looks adorable and so happy, I actually bought the magazine. I really enjoyed the article. So many success stories start out with, "and then one day I just got fed up and changed my whole darn life, never ate another slice of pizza, and started running marathons" and good for them, but that's just not me. It sounds like she started gradually with things she could handle, especially with exercise, and she's come a long way. I was really inspired and I'm going to hold on to this copy for a while.

There are also several other success stories with people who were counting calories and sticking between 1500 and 1800 calories. That's a HUGE relief for me to read. I can eventually get in the swing of 1500 but that is HARD for me to start off. I read somewhere that it's the "best number" for "most women" to lose steadily without plateaus or something so in my head it's the magical ideal. I'm glad to know that lots of people lose weight just fine sometimes going up to 1800.
  • I used to crash diet and cut calories down to 1000 or below, and that always ended up failing. Everyone always told me (even a dietitian) that I should be eating no more than 1200 calories, so I would stress out if I went over that. I was always hungry and I just felt... blah. I upped my calories to 1300-1500 and I'm still losing without the feeling of being deprived.

I just read an article about the Victoria's Secret models, and their "Model Whisperer."

    http://shine.yahoo.com/channel/beaut...odies-2409415/

It's a guy who tailors workouts for the models before shoots, runway shows or job interviews. The whole thing made me sick. He was like, "None of these women were born skinny. They have insecurities just like any woman." (note that he said "skinny" not "healthy" or "fit") Well no frickin wonder women have insecurities!!

It's good to hear about someone NOT going to extremes to look better. It's a welcome relief!
  • I just saw that Kelly Osbourne cover, and I've seen her on "Fashion Police" as well. She looks fantastic! The efforts she's made to reshape herself really paid off; her skin looks radiant, her body looks slimmer but still robustly healthy, even her sense of style's really grown.

It's also nice to see a celebrity who doesn't feel the need to nip off half her nose or get her chin sanded down just to look appropriately "starletty."

Edited to add: That "Model Whisperer" article? Ugh! Men who refer to women--especially women for whom they work--as "girls" just creep me out.
  • I have the magazine, just haven't picked it up and read it yet. But yes, she looks GREAT! Hopefully she isn't lying (which I don't think so). I know her momma went the knife route and had allllll kinds of stuff done from head to toe! I admire celebrities who do it the right way!
  • I've been staying between 1200 and 1400 but keep going off. I'm wondering if I bumped my calories up to at least 1500 I'd be more stisfied and less tempted to stray
  • I think Sharon had been very very overweight most of her life and then lost weight with some form of gastric surgery. After that, she had some work done but you know...if you're very very overweight all the way up through your 40s and when you lose the weight everything is kind of saggy - I can see someone wanting some surgical help with that. Good for people who can embrace it and be happy with it, that's great, but all the sit ups and push ups in the world won't keep you from having sagging breasts and a fat apron if that's how things turn out. It's not fun to think about, but it's reality for a lot of people. Why not have those things changed if you can afford it and it's important to you.

I love that she's left her face alone. We're not all supposed to look the same and she is adorable just like she is.
  • Haven't seen the picture of Kelly but so glad she's managed to lose the weight.
(Anyone able to post the pic on here?)

Regarding calories, I am now 76 and find that I have to stick to 1000 Calories per day otherwise I would put ON the weight at 1200. All due to being on several meds and the fact of being disabled.
  • I'm at 1700 and I've been losing at a steady pace, I don't think I'll go lower then that. Sounds like a great article though.
  • i saw the KO cover the other day. i'm about to head to walmart, i think i'll buy it. she does look AMAZING! she has come a LONG way from battling with her addictions and weight. kudos to her!
