Seabiscuit. I enjoyed the movie. Next I think I'll get Secretariat from the library.

I've read them all. I liked the concept of the first book, and most of the story, but I think the ending is obvious, a little silly, overly fantastical and far too pat. And the rest of the books, well... one is more ridiculous than the next. Actually, the second book is still pretty fun, but I think Lindsay loses his way after that. Too bad, really, since the concept is great. I need to watch the show. I've been told by many it is much better than the books.

As for me, I am currently re-reading A Game of Thrones in anticipation of its premiere on HBO. I also picked up the latest Wheel of Time book on Tuesday.

^ This. As I say, I really enjoyed most of the first book, and the second book is fun, too. But after that.... WTF?!? The third book screws up the whole concept to my mind. And after that the series just gets too lightweight.

Right now I have a bunch of books going. I'm still working on Paradise Lost and the Stephanie Plum series (up to book six). Also reading Alcatraz Versus the Evil Librarians and just started A Grimm Legacy this morning. Last two are middle school books though.

The Stephanie Plum books are fun. Like any series that long, I think the time has long past for the author to wrap things up—the story has just gotten plain silly, static and pointless—but I had fun with these way into the series.

This is actually one of my favorite books. I even love the social commentary. :) I got lost in this book at 19 while crossing the country stowed behind the driver's seat in a moving van. (Long story.) I put my headphones on and listened to the musical while I devoured the story. I am still very fond of it to this day. And I love the musical.

I'm working through "Odd Jobs" by Jim Butcher, an author who I lovelovelove. (Fantasy/Mystery)

Afterwards, I'll be starting Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. He thinks its a real shame I haven't read it yet.

I recently finished Olive Kitteridge for my book club - I thought it was excellent, and we had one of our best discussions on it that we've had in a while. We are reading The Help next, and I'm looking forward to it - have heard great things from all my friends.

Today I completed The Hunger Games. I teach high school English and require independent reading, so I try to read as many YA books as I have time for. I must say, I loved it!

walking2lose - Just read a great YA novel - "Songs for a Teenage Nomad" - and really enjoyed it. It was actually written by my high school drama teacher, so I may have had some personal attachment, because her setting was borrowed heavily from my high school. That said, it was a really interesting book and I did enjoy it.

I'm currently reading The Circle Series by Ted Dekker and I'm really loving it. I'm on book three, White and I can't wait to find out what happens next!

I'm also reading The Love Dare by Stephen Kendrick, Alex Kendrick, and Lawrence Kimbrough and just started Twelve Extraordinary Women: How God Shaped Women of the Bible, and What He Wants to Do with You by John Macarthur as well.

I read Lucy and I was really disappointed :( It was so preachy and unrealistic (I mean, yes, I realize the premise was unrealistic - but hey, make it work!). I also read Sandra Dallas' Whiter Than Snow (loooove Persian Pickle Club and The Diary of Mattie Spencer) and it was a big fat "eh" too. I have Bill Bryson's Home to take on my trip - he never lets me down!

Here is my current list:

Where to start!

I finished The Fall of Giants just last week, and yesterday I started ****'s Corner by David Baldacci. It was released yesterday.
I REALLY like Ken Follett. I am as intrigued by the history as the fiction, and I don't mind that it is ALOT of reading.

Walking2close - I am excited just to hear you liked The Hunger Games! I can't wait to hear about how you liked the other two!!

My sister is a middle school teacher, and not a huge reader, so I have "helped" her by reading the YA books and making recommendations. The Hunger Games are probably top two of my favorites for YA, and definitely top 10 for all books.

I just started Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin and I must admit, I'm struggling. I'm about a quarter of the way through and somebody PLEASE tell me it gets better. I've had to force myself to get through all of the ridiculous dialogue. I know she's trying to create the atmosphere of the upper class English society, but they are all so catty and boring. I want to like it, but maybe the genre just isn't for me. :|

Maybe my expectations are too high. I too just finished the Hunger Games (the entire trilogy actually) and I loved it. It is certainly one of the best books/series I have read in a very long time.

When I got my Kindle I downloaded a bunch of old literature. I couldn't get through Pride & Prejudice, either. I struggled with Dracula (but did finish) and I loved My Antonia. Prior to that I had attempted a Faulkner novel and couldn't get through it, either.
