What are you reading-Aug 2010
New Month, New Reads! What are you reading?
I'm reading The Weigh Loss Diaries by Courtney Rubin. Good read so far! |
I'm reading The China Study, I forget who it's by but I've been wanting to read it forever and can't get a copy from the library because so many others want to also. I finally bought it and just started it yesterday. After that, schoolbooks will be my reading of choice for the month!

The Devil's Punchbowl by Greg Iles
|
The Life of Pi
|
The Colony by Jillian Weise
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot required reading for school |
The Shack
|
Master Your Metabolism - Jillian Michaels
24 Hours - Greg Iles The Lost Symbol - Dan Brown |
I just started reading Naturally Thin by Bethany Frankyl. Someone here recommended it so I ordered it on Amazon.
|
Comanche Heart ~ Catherine Anderson
The Circus Fire ~ Stewart O'Nan |
'Shrink Yourself' by Dr Gould. I like 'pun-ny' titles. I'm only a few chapters into it but its been very helpful so far. Its written to help the emotional eater identify and work though issues that cause me overeat. I feel very pro-active, because I don't feel I will lose or keep of weight without dealing with the reasons that I overeat in the first place.

I just finished Rob Sheffield's Talking to Girls About Duran Duran and I loved it. His Love is a Mix Tape is in my top 10 books of all time (and if you know how many books I have read, it's pretty impressive to make the top 10).

I'm reading 'Three Cups of Tea' - Greg Mortenson, Precious - Sapphire (good but disturbing book, I didn't see the movie, I wanted to read the book first lol), and 'Ender's Game' - Orson Scott Card. It's a pretty interesting book. My cousin named his son Ender because of this book, so I had to get it and read it! |
I'm rereading the Harry Potter series. I'm hoping to have it finished next week, then I have Tsar by Ted Bell. From wizards and magic to espionage and adventure! lol
|
I just finished "Girl who kicked a Hornet's nest" - 3rd book in the "Millennium" Series. The first book, "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", got me hooked and I just had to finish all 3 books. There are definitely some disturbing parts but overall a really good read.
|
i just finished reading shiver, a werewolf love story in the same vein as twilight.. i thought it was very good and can't wait to get my hands on the sequel.

Reading
Hi everyone,
I'm reading Sizzling Sixteen by Janet Evanovich...I love this series! I also just finished a memoir called "I was told there'd be cake" by Sloane Crosley. It was a quick funny read that was complete brain candy. |
I'm on the 5th book of the Sookie Stackhouse series. LOVE these!
|
Hickory,
I LOVE those books. I haven't read the latest one yet (I am in queue to get it from the library). Do you watch True Blood on HBO--the series is based on the books. They have taken a lot of liberties but it is also highly entertaining...plus Alexander Skarsgard is HOTTT :o |
The Orchard Keeper by Cormac McCarthy. He's amazing but it takes me a bit to get through his books due to his detailed writing and how many times I can read a sentence over and get something new out of it (not unlike this run on sentence lol). I can't wait to read everything of his.
The Professor and the Madman by Simon Winchester. Really interesting so far. The Atheist's Way-Living Well Without Gods by Eric Maisel. Religious debate intrigues me to probably an unhealthy extent so I read a lot about it. But this book provides so much insight into my head, really. |
I finished re-reading Less Than Zero and have begun Imperial Bedrooms, both by Bret Easton Ellis.

Ohh! I love the Sookie books too!! I agree with you, Hickory. I've read all the books too, and I liked Eric waaay sooner in the TV show than I did in the books...
Right now I'm reading 'The Things We Do For Love" by Kristin Hannah, and "Three Cups of Tea" by Greg Mortenson & David Oliver Belin...that ones taking me a while, it's nonfiction, so it's not a quick cute read. I've been reading it while reading novels. |
|
Hey Luddy - I just read "The Professor and the Madman" too. It was fascinating!
|
the twilight series, im half way through the second book, and i have plans to read The guernsey literary and potato peel pie society and firefly lane.
|
The Biggest Loser - Simple Swaps. 100 easy ways to start living a healthier lifestyle.
|
Here's my current Good Reads list, I try to keep it up to date:
http://www.goodreads.com/review/list...tml&shelf=read I just finished reading Laura Lippman's "I'd Know You Anywhere" - I loved it! |
I'm currently reading Lust by Elfride Jelinek. Very graphic, very hard to read book. I'm not sure if it is the translator or the author. Not one of my favorite reads.
Soon I will be reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, I kept hearing about it so I picked it up and I will also read The Land of Green Plums by Herta Muller. I can't wait to be done with what I'm currently reading. |
Now: Bliss, Remembered, by Frank Deford
On deck: The Paris Vendetta by Steve Berry |
Heart of the matter by Emily Griffin
|
Of Bees and Mist by Erick Setiawan. It was a good domestic soap opera :)
|
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo - Stieg Larsson :)
|
I'm reading an Ann Rule book right now...
|
I just started reading the first book in the Sookie Stackhouse series, very entertaining, only 10 pages in and I've already LOL'd for real. Haven been reading much lately so it feels good to sink my teeth into a book (pun intended, hey it's early, I'm allowed).
|
Just finished The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society which was a Book Club selection. I found it delightful although I usually dislike novels written in the form of a series of letters. We meet tonight and discuss and I'll distribute the next selection which I'm pretty sure is The Help which could be a bit more meaty.
|
I loved Guernsey too. The Help was good, I enjoyed it - but I was a little annoyed that the good characters were SO GOOD and the bad characters were SO BAD.
|
Next up on my Kindle is When I Stop Talking, You'll Know I'm Dead by Jerry Weintraub.
I'd really like to read the Sookie Stackhouse books but don't know where to start. Is there a beginning or can one read them in any order? |
alinnell: Dead Until Dark is the first Sookie Stackhouse novel, it's really good!
Right now I just started reading a book called Hungry, by plus-sized model Crystal Renn. She went from being a normal model and really unhappy and unhealthy to being plus-sized and now she's super happy and successful. |
Thanks sammy!
|
I just finished reading Better by Atul Gawande and Mountains Beyond Mountains by Tracy Kidder. I highly recommend both for anyone going into public health/health admin.
