Red face Overweight, need some advice about wedding dresses. Please

Hi, I am getting married this year, in August. I am currently at 197 lbs. I mainly have issues with my hips, butt, and theighs. So I want a ball gown dress. I am hoping to lose some weight by August but prob not gonna reach my goal weight. Which is fine. But I just need some opinions on 2 wedding dresses. I haven't worn a dress in forever, I haven't picked out a formal dress since prom. (9 years ago) And I am not going to pay 500$ for a dress I will wear 1 day. So please out of these 2 dresses which one do you like better? And do you think either one would be good for a overweight girl? Thanks so much. ADD: I think im gonna keep my fingers crossed and buy it online.

Smile Best Wishes

Hi,

First, best wishes on your upcoming wedding. I just got married in December and had a hard time finding my dress as well. I liked the first one better, but have you tried David's Bridal? They normally run $99 sales and have a user friendly website. I didn't get my dress from there but did visit them. Good luck finding a dress!

I think you should go with the first one as it would elongate your figure.

I would also go with the first one. I was 210 pounds when I got married and wore something very similar. That A-Line ballgown is a very forgiving cut and the sweetheart neckline is just beautiful. Plus, the back of that first dress is to die for! Just gorgeous. Best of luck and congrats!!!

I love the first one! Congrats on your upcoming wedding! I'm getting married this June- it's so hectic with all the planning. I'm not willing to pay hundreds or thousands of dollars on a dress for one day either- besides I can't afford it. Did you check out e-bay?

I also love the 1st one more. It's gorgeous, the embroidery is beautiful and the cut should be flattering. I'm not personally a big fan of tulle.

I really like the first one. I've seen lots of brides wear that style and it always looks flattering.

I was about 180 when I got married and my advice is to try on everything. Try on the dresses that you don't even like because sometimes they look fabulous on you!! I had a particular dress in mind and I kick myself for not buying the dress that looked the best on me. Good luck and have fun!!!

First I want to say that if you haven't done it already, go to a bridal store and try on dresses similar to the ones you are considering. When I was married in 1985, I had in mind what I wanted and once I tried it on, I ended up looking like a fairy godmother!! I actually went with something completely opposite of what I originally had in mind. So see how this style looks on your body before you buy online.

Although I love tulle, I think the first one would be the most figure flattering. Enjoy planning your big day!

I like the first one, I think it is very flattering and I love the price: also I don't know what size range your brides maids are but mine were from a 2 to a 24 and I found really nice dresses from Chadwicks for about $60.......ahhhh young love--God Bless

First of all, congrats. So far, I have highly enjoyed married life, and I don't expect that to change any time soon. (But who does?)

I would also HIGHLY recommend trying similar dresses on before you buy. Dresses look completely different on plus size women than they do on the skinny models. I looked my dress up years after getting married and seeing myself in my wedding pictures waaaaay to many times and I was like, "Really? REALLY?!" It didn't look the same at all.

Second recommendation: get a corset back (w/modesty panel), especially if you are ordering online. 3 reasons: 1) They fit better, because they can be adjusted to your shape. So if you order a size too small or big, you'll be okay without paying for an alteration. 2) They can cinch in your waist like, amazingly. 3) They look good!

Third not-so-much a recommendation as some tips: asymmetrical waists are slimming. If you're not in to that, then detailing at the top around your busts will accentuate that and therefore make your waist look smaller.

Lastly, you're not really supposed to buy a dress and then lose more weight. If you plan on going that route anyway, you might want to consider how alterable a dress is. Lots of beading or detailing will make alterations harder.

That said, for many of the reasons I just mentioned, I would go with the first one. But please, at least make the trip to try something similar on. You don't have to buy, and many girls go many places before buying, so they will be used to girls not buying that day.
