After that, winter Olympic reading, including a third go-round of Dreams of Gold by Maynard Thomson, the best figure-skating novel ever

Shopaholic1204 01-02-2010 03:47 PM

I just started, Lemon Meringue Pie Murder by Joanne Fluke. (I really shouldnt read books with food titles, or with recipes for yummy desserts in them..but the books are really good, lol!!)

I've also been reading The Flat Belly Diet.

KTFaith05 01-04-2010 10:20 PM

I have been reading, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. It started a little slow, but it is getting better!

Tuning In 01-04-2010 10:44 PM

I am reading Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt. Very good book. Love to read while I am on the treadmill or stationary bike. Makes the workout feel like it took half the time and I tend to work out longer if I am reading a really good book.

AR4life 01-04-2010 11:58 PM

I'm reading "A New Earth, awakening to your life's purpose" by Eckhart Tolle.
It's tough reading because you have to stop and think so much ...

The Elm Creek Quilts are the best. Which book are you up to? I haven't read any of the Harry Potters after Order of The Phoenix.

If you like Joanne Fluke, you might also like Diane Mott Davidson. Her heroine is a caterer who gets into all kinds of trouble. She is very funny. Joanne's Candy Cane Murder was pretty good, too.

Katheryne 01-05-2010 12:22 AM

I'm working my way through the Undead series by Mary Janice Davidson. They're light, entertaining reads.

I'm also reading To Kill a Mocking Bird by Harper Lee.

I loved those books. I'm a couple behind, but I need to go get them. They are great for books you don't want to have to think about to read.

At the moment, I am reading Dune Road by Jane Green.

Violet73 01-06-2010 09:35 PM

I just read "90 Minutes in Heaven" by Don Piper....his account on dying and going to heaven. An awesome book! :D

I am re-reading several augusten buroughs & david sedaris memoirs. so far I've plowed through Me Talk Pretty One Day, Dress Your Family in Courderoy and denim, and Possible Side Effects. Next up is Magical Thinking. i <3 them both so much. Sometimes, I wish I was a gay man, so that my memoir could be so entertaining. JK.

Shopaholic1204 01-09-2010 08:14 PM

I'm trying to read Narcissus In Chains by Laurell K. Hamilton again. I started it sometime last summer..and couldn't continue because it had such a slow start. I'm only on chapter 4 right now..it's very slow, and it makes me doze off, lol. I hope it picks up soon.

FitGirlyGirl 01-10-2010 12:17 AM

I'm almost finished with The Complete Idiot's Guide to Weight Loss. I'm also reading the Song of the Lioness books from Tamora Pierce (adolescent swords and sorcery fantasy about a girl who is training to be a knight) and Mary Called Magdalene from Margaret George. I'm about to start Nutrition for Dummies.

dessi 01-10-2010 12:29 AM

I'm re-reading Agnes and the Hitman by Jennifer Crusie...flat out the funniest book I've ever read! Then I will probably re-read Lonsome Dove...my favorite book...its so much better than the movie. Gus's thoughts are hysterical!

Love them both as well. My favorite Burroughs books were Running with Scissors (the movie was so disappointing) and Dry (even though it gets kinda depressing). I read all of their books my Freshman year of college.

Currently reading The End of Overeating by Dr David Kessler, after seeing it reccommended on here a million times. Just got through the first section (out of 6) it's interesting but a little redundant.

Next I'll be reading another of Chuck Pallahnuik's books. He's my favorite author ever! Twisted mind, crazy random facts, and amazing voice. I love how he incorporates his descriptions in with the plot instead of just listing a description of the surroundings like some authors do. There is not a boring sentence in his books. While he is a "if you love one, you'll love them all" author, he's certainly not a "if you've read one, you've read them all" author. This man's mind just amazes me! Okay, I'll stop gushing now.

I read The Witching Hour, which, in my opinion, is an awesome book except for the stupid end. Then I read the next two books - don't recall what they are called but they are sequels to The Witching Hour and I thought they were 100% crap. JMHO of course.

Last night, I finished reading While I Am Falling by Laura Moriarty - about a girl in college who is affected by her parents' divorce. A really good book, I could not put it down. There are two other books by the same author so I am planning to get them from the library today.

My husband LOVES all of his books! I haven't read any of them but he keeps saying I need to.

Right now I am on book two in a very long series by Christine Feehan called the Dark Series. Very racy in some parts.. haha.

BellaHTH 01-10-2010 01:58 PM

Reading "Middlesex" by Jeffrey Eugenides. It was recommended by a few people, and it's quite strange. I'm about a quarter through.

Which have you read? I've read all the older, and most of the newer, maybe I could recommend one? Also I love Hunter S. Thompson, and Irvine Welsch, authors of fear and Loathing in Las vegas and Trainspotting, respectively. You might like these, same type of "smut" and some of my more prudish friends have called david, augusten, and chuck

honeybjones 01-10-2010 09:40 PM

Ooh books yay! I am reading Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain. Has anyone read Percy Jackson and The Olympians? I would love to give those a look-see.

Done with Bel Canto: I know it's a more literary novel focusing on the bonds that form between the terrorists (most of whom are teenagers and have never been exposed to stuff like opera and the lifestyle the people they take hostage lead, so getting to know them is an eye-opener for them) and their captives, but I wish there'd been a little more "action", i.e., a little more about what plans may have been taken to negotiate for the hostages' freedom (I'm spoiled by the political thrillers I like to read).

Now starting in on a block of winter-Olympic-themed reading: last night I started A Medal of Honor by John Morton (about biathletes); after that it's gonna be pretty much solid figure-skating books (there's not a whole lot of fiction about other winter-O sports, unless it's kids' or young-adult stuff; or else I'm just gonna have to read more non-fiction) until the end of February

Mikan 01-13-2010 10:16 PM

"A Gesture Life", by Chang-rae Lee is a book I am working on for fun, because my friend was sent an extra copy and told me I'd really like it. Other than that I'm reading about 5-6 other collections of short stories for my college class.
