  • thank you!
  • Sorry to hear that; you have worked there for 10 years, so you can have some great references (and I agree, get many copies of the reference letters), and start applying now for any possible positions. Legal secretaries are kinda rare comparitively so you should have a good chance with your experience to get a new position. Prayers going up that everything will work out for you and for your bosses' health too ...
  • I am so sorry to hear you are going though this!!! Also sorry to hear about your boss. My heart really goes out to you. I will say a prayer for you right now. Everyone is giving great suggestions. I hope everything works out for you.
  • I just so appreciate the kind words and prayers!
  • oh nO! Im so sorry
  • Oh no! I'm sorry you are stressed- i am job-hunting myself and it can be very difficult. All the tips everyone is giving are really great. Network like crazy! I really think this is key. I was reading "what colour is your parachute?" (more tips on networking in there!) and one of the things they said to do was to approach unemployment like a marathon- catch up on your sleep, work out and make sure you are taking care of yourself physically. It can be hard to do but i think that is a good idea too, will help you stay positive.
Good luck and all the best!!
  • thank! I'm getting my brain around it now, less freaked. I've sent out a couple of resumes and made calls to a couple of people to be references. My boss wants me to write the gen rec letter (!) Talked to my dad too. It's his 85th birthday today.
  • Aw im a little late to this thread but happy belated birthday to your dad! And a for you, because I know how much it stinks. I was laid off from my last job unexpectedly and went through trying to get a job, trying to get unemployment, etc. Best of luck!! And of course, my prayers are with you and your boss, hope he's feeling better..
  • Congrats. to your Dad. Some one I like was born on your Dad's b-day! This may be time to consider going back to school, I'm jobless too and I feel that I need to do something to guarantee me a good job.
  • There are several Federal openings in New York, DC metro area (I don't know how you'd feel about that LONG train ride every day--I know lots of people do it).

Go to www.usajobs.com and type paralegal in the search engine.
  • so sorry to hear about your job loss. Try not to let it get to you to much i know that sounds patrinaising..............im unemployed at the minuite due 2 unforseen circumstances and as u say at christmas it couldnt be worse.

Ive struggleds but got my friend and family what i could and stuck 2 the more cheap and sentimental route. Enjoy xmas and new year and just get right back out there in the new year good luck xxx
  • There is absolutely no shame in being unemployed. I quit my job to move to a new city and I've been looking since August for the 'right' job. Budgeting is of course more important than ever, and sticking to it is a must. Networking is super important, not only do you get your name and skills out, you get loads of support. Everyone knows someone who's lost a job in this economy! I sincerely wish you the best in finding something you enjoy!
  • thanks everybody! it is tough at this time of year being jobless, isn't it, yikes! hugs to us all. I have been applying at USAjobs, thanks for mentioning that.

I'm happy that my dad sounds so good at 85. I sent him a box of goodies (he can still eat everything too, ha), and included some homemade chocolate chip cookies.
  • well, I just have to say HUGS, HUGS, HUGS. I am so glad your dad is so healthy at 85 too! You have a great marketable skill, I will pray for you to find a good job and that your boss gets better too.
  • thanks, Jen!! I really appreciate your prayers (I'm sure boss does too)! I've been plugging away with the applications.
