The Vampire Diaries - Spoiler Alert!!

Discuss the show here in detail if you choose :D

Onederchic 09-12-2009 11:29 AM

I have to say it is a bit Twilightish but I still am interested enough to continue watching it.

The chic ( I don't have names all down yet because well, just seen the one episode) that got bit and lived, I don't like her much and I hope they kill her off soon, lol. I am so mean :o

LiL PiXiE 09-12-2009 11:45 AM

lol...I wonder if she has like "venom" in her now??

Also--I could've sworn that he was the one doing everything but i was his brother?! So I'm assuming his brother was the one that killed her parents?

He's obviously after her b/c it reminds him of the women he loved in the 1800, now is that supposed to be her like....born again??

Did you see previews for next week? I wonder if the brother is going to also enroll himself in school and the blonde chick is going to think she now has a "hot guy" after her? Obviously he's going to try to mess with the main character....blonde grl is going to get pissed b/c once again, she never gets anything and tries so hard, meanwhile the other chick doesn't even try and gets everything.

(as you can see I don't know any of the names either lol)

Onederchic 09-12-2009 11:47 AM

Yeah I thought it was him doing it too, the brother was a surprise!

Blond girl = annoying :o

Shannon in ATL 09-12-2009 10:28 PM

I wasn't surprised by the brother, because I had seen the publicity shots that showed both men. Wasn't sure the actual relationship, but knew there was another vampire in the picture somewhere...

Sis 09-13-2009 01:32 PM

Anyone else here old enough to remember Dark Shadows?? The girl looking (maybe being the reincarnation of) like his one true love...very reminscent of Barnabas and Josette.
I think I like it so far though. Will continue to watch it and see.

Shannon in ATL 09-13-2009 01:59 PM

I remember "Dark Shadows"... loved that show...

Onederchic 09-13-2009 02:06 PM

I've never heard of Dark Shadows :|

hmm i kinda took it like, maybe she's the great grandaughter x100 or so of katherine??

or it might be like in bram stolkers dracula the one with gary oldman, where winona is reincarnated from the first love or something.

lol at the blonde girl falling for the other brother. and yah just goes to show when i comes to love. the less you try the easier you get...

me too. i knew it was the brother doing it. cause i had watched the preview promo trailer, that kinda hinted to it. so all episode i was just waiting for the evil brother to turn up! lol

i laughed at the bit when damien(?) takes the micky out of stephen when he does the face grrr thing lol!

well i for one, really enjoyed watching it! i'm looking forward to the next episode. it was a nice easy going introductory episode.

michelle i agree about the twilight bit. although i know that the books vampire diaries books came before the twilight books.

i just cant believe that one of my favourite books from when i was a kid, was the secret vampire, and it was by L J Smith, same author as the vampire diaries. i found it recently and am reading it again

Onederchic 09-13-2009 05:36 PM

I enjoyed it too :D

marbear24 09-13-2009 07:06 PM

Echo - Witchlight was my favorite. Same series as Secret Vampire. ;)

Onederchic 09-13-2009 08:49 PM

Witchlight? Secret Vampire? :?:

marbear24 09-13-2009 09:11 PM

Oneder - My comment was in response to Echo's...

The woman who wrote the books Viampire diaries also wrote those books. Sorry for the confusion ... little off topic :)

Onederchic 09-13-2009 09:12 PM

No, thanks for letting me know. I gotta get all these books :o

pintobean 09-14-2009 09:36 AM

Here's an online link for the series Vampire Diaries by L.J. Smith. You can read the first 2 books - The Awakening and The Struggle - provided by the publisher Harper Teen. Few months ago they had the entire books online for people to read for free (I believe a promotion for the show). Now, I think it's only part of the books. Still something better than nothing ;).

I haven't watched the show yet but have recorded it to watch it sometime this week.

Michelle, you can check your local library for these books. I read them all by getting them from the library. Here's a list of all the L.J. Smith books in order.

i love libraries and books :book2:

Onederchic 09-14-2009 10:09 AM

pintobean - You friggin rock!!!!!!!!! ♥

MrsToBe 09-14-2009 11:20 AM

I don't know about this one. I understand vampires are hot right now, but it seems really Twilightish. Even my fiance said the main guy kind of mimics Edward Cullen. I'm going to stick it out for a couple more episodes.

Onederchic 09-14-2009 11:45 AM

I agree, it was Twilightish but I will still watch it :D

marbear24 09-14-2009 11:49 AM

Sad thing is the books were written like a decade before Twilight came out. Now they're making them into twilight. Makes me sad, but I can understand why people think it's redundant. I will make informed comments tonight after I watch it. Hubby has class, so I can indulge in the girly shows while hes gone :)

sarahyu 09-14-2009 01:03 PM

I can't get into it. I turned it on really planning on watching the entire thing and couldn't get past the first 15 minutes or so. It sort of has a melrose place, gossip girl feel to it (which again, never watched more the 15 min of either so...) I don't like popluar teenage girl shows. It's odd because I loved Buffy and didn't have any problems with 180 yo vampire panting after a 16 yo...but on this show the girl doesn't have the supernatural aspect. It just feels icky...what old guy wants to hang out with immature girls and high school nastiness?

But I may go read all the books maybe I'm just too hyper to sit still long enough for the plot to evolve. Drives my hubby crazy to watch a movie with me, I watch it on fast forward and then when a good part comes I slow it down to really watch it.

It comes on tonight? *runs to check tv guide*

marbear24 09-14-2009 01:14 PM

Nope. DVR'd from Thursday. I can't watch stuff like this with the hubby home. Twilight either. Makes me feel... weird... because I know he's just dying to make a snarky comment about it and it embarasses me to a point. Haha. So I have affaris with chick flicks while he's not around :) My Offical Vampire Diaries night (if I continue to watch it) will be Monday.

Onederchic 09-14-2009 01:28 PM

Hehe gotcha :D I don't watch certain shows with my bf around either, The Vampire Diaries is one of them.

marbear24 09-14-2009 07:54 PM

hm. Well if I look at it as The Vampire Diaries by LJ SMith then DAH! F&#K!

If I look at it as a seperate entity... it's just the cheesy thing I need to fill a Monday night home alone until Football comes on :-D I will def NEVER be watching this wth the hubby around though! He'll ask me when I turned 13.. :)

Count me in.

marbear24 09-14-2009 08:20 PM

Mrstobe - I was thinking about what you said about Stefan being "Edward"-esque while watching it. I got more of an Angel from Buffy vibe from him.

Onederchic 09-15-2009 10:43 AM

Yay marbear, you're in :D

beerab 09-15-2009 06:54 PM

I definitely thought it was good for a first episode, not brilliant but good. I'm definitely giving it more time.

The dude who plays the "bad" brother is OMG SOOO HOT!! Want to touch the hiney! OWWW!!! ;)

I've seen pictures of him online and MAN OH MAN- when a guy is that gorgeous it's a crime lol :D

Onederchic 09-16-2009 11:59 AM

LOL beerab :D

marbear24 09-17-2009 11:45 AM

So it's on again tonight, and I'll DVR it and watch it Monday. Plus it's on at the same time as bones. And Angel wins over the new vampires, even when he's playing a real person ;)

Hmm...I will watch for that Angel like behavior this week. I felt he was giving the Edward like tortured love struck seductive teen vamp thing going on. I don't really know how to explain it.

I was/am a HUGE fan of Buffy, but I didn't get that feeling with this show. I agree with sarahyu, it has the teen drama feel to me, like gossip girl or the oc. But, I told myself I would give it 3 episodes, just in case it takes the writers sometime to warm up the storyline.

I also don't dig the idea that Elena is like his reincarnated lost love from the 1800s. Seems a little cheesy...did anyone watch the soap Passions?? They did that same storyline with Luis and Sheridan...lol.

Shannon in ATL 09-17-2009 12:28 PM

I didn't get any Buffy feel from this show either, I guess because there wasn't a lot of the supernatural aspect in it to me. It seemed like a high school drama where some of the students happened to be vampires, not a vampire show that happened to take place in a high school. I love love love Buffy and Angel and so far none of these new shows really comes close for me.

marbear24 09-17-2009 12:43 PM

I should clarify... I don't get a Buffy feel from the whole show. Just Stefan & Damon. It's like a Angel before - Angel after thing. You two are correct, the rest of it is very drama-esque.

Now I want to watch Buffy...

Shannon in ATL 09-17-2009 01:46 PM

Marbear, DH & I just rewatched Buffy a few months ago. We started Angel, but got distracted by new acquisitions and moved off to MASH & Star Trek on BluRay. :) I think it is time for a little Angel.

Onederchic 09-18-2009 08:40 AM

That brother is really an ***...sexy, yes but an *** indeed!

I am eager for the next episode already :p

From the book, Stefan is supposed to be a tortured, love struck, even tempered vampire. Whereas, Damon is more carefree, wild, power hungry, loves to be a vampire etc. I haven't watched the show yet. I have it on DVR. I'll be watching it this weekend. I would recommend reading the books.

Onederchic 09-18-2009 10:24 PM

I gotta get the books >.<

marbear24 09-19-2009 08:28 AM

Pinto - yeah - I've read the books. I don't think they got either Stefan or Damon's personalities right. ****, they didn't get Elena's right either... I'm currently considering them two different things (the books and theshow) or I won't be able to watch it!

Onder - get them. Then get the Forbidden Game Triology. That's my fav of her triologies.

Onederchic 09-19-2009 02:13 PM

I am adding them all to my list now, thanks!!!

LiL PiXiE 09-19-2009 06:24 PM

I want to read the books, but I will read after the show because if not...I know I will be disappointed in the show. I always prefer books, but so far I like the show.
