What are you reading - March 2009
Wow - February is such a short month! Here is last month's thread if anyone wants to review:
http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=163288 I finished reading Still Alice and Wesley the Owl. They were both great. I'm not sure I'm a believer in animal telepathy or I have the fortitude to kill mice for my pet, but I really enjoyed the book about the owl. |
Im reading Angels In My Hair by Lorna Byrne...its very good....Im a firm beleiver in the angels....
|
Sutter's Cross by W. Dale Cramer
|
I finished the fifth book in the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris and since I'm very into series lately, I started The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith. I've seen these around and thought they didn't look like my cup of tea, but they're completely different from what I thought they would be. I love it! I really love the main character, Precious Ramotswe.
I'm also reading Unconditional Parenting by Alfie Kohn. I need to start thinking about how I will discipline my little boy in the future, and this book seems in line with my leanings toward attachment parenting. |
Hey Lisa - is that the first book in the Alexander McCall series? I keep meaning to give it a whirl.
|
I'm just finishing Nothing to Lose by Lee Child. Got it from a co-worker. It's a pretty good read, but a little drawn out. Next up is a newer Stephen King. I'll let you know how it goes! Great thread! I never knew it existed. Thanks!!
Jenny :o) |
I'm still on Stone Cold but should be done with it in a couple of days. After that I think I'll read The Help by Kathryn Stockett
|
I loaded The Help onto my Sony Reader! Maybe I'll read that one next too :)

I love the #1 Ladies Detective Agency! I had no idea it has been made into a miniseries. I'll have to look for that.
|
The Rise of Silas Lapham... ahhhhhh 19th century american lit.
|
Just started The Shopoholic series. So far so good... a light funny read. I've got her whole series. They came in all at once from the library.

Thanks |
I'm still plodding through Roger Zelazny's Amber series- I'm on Trumps of Doom and it's finally starting to get really good.
|
Well, I finally finished Love Walked In and while it annoyed me...I think I HAVE to read the next one, lmao.
Been working on Three Dollars by Elliot Perlman...another annoying book, lol. So thought I would go between that and Swapping Lives by Jane Green...maybe it will help me get Three Dollars read. |

As for me, I just started reading From Dead To Worse by Charlaine Harris. |
Like you Francie...I refuse to watch the movie. The book wasn't so bad, but the movie just looks ridiculous!
My book is getting a little better...that is one reason I never quit a book. If I start it, it WILL be finished, lol...eventually. Just a slow start. |
I'm about 1/4 of the way through http://www.amazon.com/Meet-Mr-Smith-...6173566&sr=8-1
It's pretty good so far, makes you rethink the way most of us view sex and purity. |
Since I bought the Kindle, I've decided to download some free books. I'm starting with Bram Stoker's Dracula which I'm over half way done with. I have a list of classics that I want to read. But I also have a list of downloads to buy. I suppose I could download them all right now, but then I'd have a hard time deciding which to read first (if that makes any sense). I will get the newest Harlan Coben download as soon as it is released--sometime this month, so that may be my next book.
|
Okay. I decided to download all the classics I want to read. I figure that as long as they are free, I ought to have them readily available (even though each download takes less than a minute and I can do it anywhere--no computer needed).
Here's my list: Dracula--Bram Stoker (currently reading_ My Antonia--Willa Cather The Book of Tea--Kakuzo Okakura Riders of the Purple Sage--Zane Gray Jane Eyre--Charlotte Bronte (I figure since my DD read this, I ought to as well) The Picture of Dorian Gray--Oscar Wilde War and Peace--Leo Tolstoy Anna Karenina--Leo Tolstoy Crime and Punishment--Dostoyevsky Pride and Prejudice--Jane Austen Sense and Sensibility--Jane Austen Mansfield Park--Jane Austen Great Expectations--Charles Dickens I guess that will keep my busy for a while! |

I do like the fact that you don't lose your place--like you can't drop your bookmark and wonder where you were. You can go out of a book, read some other things and then go back into the book and be right where you left off. I just downloaded, what a dozen books. It took less than 20 minutes--the searching took the most time. Now when I go for the 6 hour round trip car ride this weekend, I'll have plenty to keep my busy. |

Allison, those are some good books you've downloaded! I want a Kindle but it will be ages before I can afford one. I finished Tears of the Giraffe (loved it) and started Philippa Gregory's The Other Queen. |

I'm now reading..The Society Of S by Susan Hubbard
|
I'm currently on a "Mystery Exploration" at my local library, picking up a variety of books from individual mystery series to find some new favorites.
I'm loving: Bad Hair Day series by Nancy Cohen Charlotte LaRue series by Barbara Colley Pennsylvania Dutch mysteries by Tamar Myers Lucy Stone mysteries by Leslie Meier It's neat to discover all these new series...I have lots of other favorites, but they only come out with books so often. |
Back from Las Vegas, exhausted! I finished The Help - I really enjoyed it :) I read it on my Sony Reader which has cool little number buttons so I can easily jump around the text ;)
|
Well, I finished my book this morning at 4:45am, lol. So later today, I'll start reading The Switch by Sandra Brown.

I'm reading the seven bride series by Leigh Greenwood. Nice western love stories.

I've read Sue Grafton's Kinsey Millhone series off and on for years. I can't even remember when I read A, B, C etc. But 'T is for Trespass' was by far the best. Loved it!
I actually read through some of the time I'm normally online!! Now I have to wait until December for 'U'. |
Susan~my favorites in Sue Grafton's series were A and H. I've read them all
DS is reading the Janet Evonovich series. Last night he started searching his room. He finally 'fessed up--he is reading #4 and realized that he hadn't read #3 but he was convinced he owned it. He tore his room up looking for it and finally realized he didn't have it. He's really bummed he missed one in the series as he thinks it is most important to read them in order. I guess we'll be hitting the book store for #3 this afternoon! Has anyone read anything from Robert Crais? I'm thinking that both my son and I might enjoy those. As for me, I'm 3/4 or more of the way through Dracula. |
