If you could live anywhere in the continental US....
I absolutely love where I live and don't have any plans on moving anytime soon. I live in MD, in what you would consider the DC Metro area. I think its a great place to live. There are tons of jobs here, tons of things to do (free museums), a good public transportation system for visiting DC, close proximity to tons of stuff.
I lived in CO, outside of Denver and thought it was kind of boring and a bit isolated. I liked the Rocky Mountains and thought Colorado Springs was a bit better than Denver but still not sure I'd ever want to live there again.
I was looking at Albuquerque, NM for a couple reasons. I really like when we've visited NM and I think its interesting from the Sandia mountains to the forest that is near Los Alamos. I think I'd get bored there after a few years though so its one reason I don't think we'd seriously look at moving there. Basically I'd have the same issues I had with Denver.
I've always liked the idea of living in the Seattle area or maybe Portland. Although maybe I've fantasized it, I liked it when we lived there when I was young and my dad was in the army. I'm a big fan of trees and I like the west coast overall.
I grew up in San Diego but have no plans of moving back. I miss some things but I really like where I currently live a lot more.
I've been to North Carolina once (and will be back there again this year) and I really like it. I think I could live there for a while.
So if given the chance to live anywhere, for at least a short period of time, I'd probably say the Pacific Northwest and somewhere in North Carolina. I also need to live in suburban/urban landscape, less populated areas aren't for me
Public Transportation in Denver has improved significantly. Maybe my perspective is different because I live in the city- close to all the museums, restaurants, a $5 cab ride from pretty much anywhere. Lots of things "happening" all the time.
However, I'm from here (CO, that is- not Denver) and it's a little tired. I don't like the brown. I prefer a warmer climate. People think of Denver as a winter wonderland, but it's not. It's pretty mild, actually (we haven't had snow on the ground for more than a couple of days this winter, which translates to brown).
I would never live in CO Springs. Pretty, but sprawled and conservative
I would love to live in the Southeast again- Ashville, Nashville, Charlottesville... anywhere in that region that ends in "ville", apparently
I love the climate, it's so green and the people are awesome. I would like to live somewhere smaller, I think.
I live in Canada, and would love to live in the States.
I would like to try:
1) California (LA or San Diego)
2) Texas (Austin)
3) I would live in Seattle
4) I HAVE lived in Portland and liked it
5) Maybe Las Vegas!
Nelie,
I live about 20 miles NE of Colorado Springs and it couldn't be more boring! I agree with Junebug about the sprawl in the Springs and lets not even get into how conservative it is. When I first moved here as a teenager I thought it was wonderful. I had moved from San Jose, CA, and it felt like a small town to me, with lots of hippies. I left for about 13 years and when I came back I didn't even recognize it. We go up to Denver if we want a little excitement!
I love NYC, but have only ever gone there for vacations so I wonder if I would love living there. A week there exhausts me, so I doubt I could keep up the pace.
I went to Tacoma a few years ago and loved it. I really miss water. My husband and I want to check out Portland as a possible move someday.
I lived in Tucson for 3 years and really liked it there too, but I've heard that it has gotten very big and sprawley too.
As far as year round best weather EVER goes....right here in coastal north San Diego county California...I can't imagine ever leaving it.....when we travel we can't wait to get back to our weather here at home....no matter where we are or time of year.
for me it would be somewhere in Alaska. before we got married my DH and i where looking at moving there to try something big and bold. we live in central Wisconsin and now have a 4 yr old. so i guess we will now have to settle for northern Wisconsin (the tourist areas north like Eagle River)or the upper peninsula of Michigan. maybe Colorado. but other then those areas we like it where we are except that we are lilving in the city and would rather be out in the country but you live where you can find and afford. in time we will get there.
Albuquerque has so much going on, so many things to do. I was kinda surprised at that when we moved here. It's really got the best of both worlds (small town and big city) in some ways.
Being from CA originally, the only thing that drives me crazy here is the whole "Land of Manana" thing. You have to stay on top of people if you want to get things done! By that I mean, you have to BUG them like crazy. I'm getting used to it though and other than that I love it here.
I've also lived in the Pacific Northwest and I love Seattle and Portland, but we were in a tiny little town that got snowed in 3 months out of the year (as in you couldn't get to the next town due to avalanches.) That sucked! I love snow, but I want to be able to get out of it occasionally.
I wouldn't mind living in CA again. I love San Luis Obispo! I'd like to try living on the east coast at some point too. Although if I could pick anywhere in North America, I'd want to live in Vancouver, BC. I loved it when we were there, it's my favorite city.
I've lived on the eastern shore of MD for a little over a year and a half and I can't wait to get back to Texas. I never thought I'd miss it, but I do. I love the warmer weather, nicer people, etc. Also, a big draw there is that my boyfriend lives there (as well as my family) . If I had to pick a specific place in Texas to settle down in, I'd probably pick Austin at this point, but there are a lot of other places I've never been, like Corpus Christi.

I was born in Corpus We take a family vaca down there every year or so- we rent a condo on the beach. It's heaven. The TX coast used to be nasty- polluted and damaged by oil spoils, but they have done a great job of cleaning it up. Corpus itself is run down. It looks exactly like it did when I was little. So maybe not run down... just... retro
You're right, though. Great people. My dad is in Houston and there isn't any money in the world to get me to live there again.
We have wintered in Las Vegas and are shopping for a home to winter there again. That being said, we would move to San Diego in a heart-beat for the weather and activities. Also love Sonoma County, CA. but weather-wise it doesn't hold a candle to SD. We are just realistic enough to know CA is not for us....it would eat the retirement income very quickly. LOL
Can you tell I would go West...just to get away from the ice and snow of the mid-west??
I live in the western suburbs of Philadelphia, and I really enjoy living here. We're in close proximity to the mountains, ocean, and NYC, Baltimore, and Washington DC are only a couple hours away, so we have it all. The different seasons bring a refreshing change and each has it's own beauty.
As I get older, though, I'm really starting to dread the cold of winter and fantasize about wintering in Florida or someplace down south, but I wouldn't want to live there year-round.
I think I could happily live in Hawaii, but that's really a far-fetched dream for me!
I've only ever lived in Rochester, but I've always wanted to move to a big city like Chicago. I dunno why, but I really wanna visit chicago someday haha. It has good pizza for one. :P
I just know wherever I live, it cannot be florida or california. Florida I could stand a little bit, but I absolutely hate the weather in these places. Or lack of. It's always sunshine. I always feel like I'm in some kind of time warp when I visit my family in LA cause the days are always the same. I have to have my four seasons and I love the rain!
