My poor little puppy has to have surgery this weekend! I'm so nervous. I have a 10 month old labrador chow mix named Bear who is big and fluffy and I love him more than anything ever. He's had an eye problem for a few months that at first the vet told me was allergies, and then maybe a tear duct issue. So I took him in this week because it looked so much worse, and the other vet that works in the office immediately diagnosed it as entropion. That means that his eyelid rolls in instead of out because of his excess skin, and they have to cut a patch below his eye so that it will open right.

I'm sure it will be fine, the vet knows what he's doing and it's a minor surgery. I've just already freaked out to my parents and my boyfriend, and now I need internet friends to freak out to so that I can chill out about it.

You have no need to worry. I was an Ophthalmic (eye) assistant for 18 years. I have assisted in this procedure for humans and I am sure it wont be much different for your cute little puppy. He will be just fine. I promise. If you have any questions, feel free to ask, I will do the best I can to answer them.

i'm a vet..and this surgery is very routine and normal. I do recommend all the precautions including preanesthetic bloodwork to make sure there are no underlying issues...but all should be good.

seen it done a few times before when i worked in a vet clinic, yes, it's very simple procedure.

Thanks everyone! I am sure he will be fine, but it definitely helps to hear the reassurance. I will let everybody know how it goes - i drop him off tomorrow morning. Poor Bear.

My lab had the same thing. It's really no big deal. Mine had it fixed when they spayed her so they didn't have to put her out twice.

He's good to go! The surgery went well. They have to see how much he wakes up in the next few hours to determine if he has to stay overnight, but he is doing alright. Thanks so much for the support, friends - it's hard to send your puppy friends away!

How is bear doing?

Bear is doing wonderfully, thanks for asking! He gets his stitches out on Friday. It's kind of amazing how much better his eye looks, even with his hair shaved off underneath it. He was ridiculously frisky afterwards - he must feel so much better now. Thanks again for asking, that's really nice of you.
