Ok, got some personal stuff going on right now, not sure which road to go down... So without getting into it, here is a general question for you guys that will help me great...

When making a life changing decision (I'm talking seriously life changing) would you follow your heart or your head???? Why?

Your head. Sometimes you just have to think with your head.

I say your heart - the mind is a crazy thing. Good luck and God bless on whatever it is

Oprah always says this thing that I love: when you have to make a decision, you should be alone and get really still and just listen to yourself, and usually you'll find that you know what you need to do.

It might not work for everyone, but whenever I'm facing a really big decision, I try to listen to my intuition -- sometimes it's to listen to my head, sometimes to my heart, but I follow it either way.

Heart.

In my experience, I've never regretted any decision I've made as a result of following my heart over my head. When I have to pick one decision over the other and I cannot combine the two, I follow my heart. I can honestly say I regret nothing.

In an ideal world, you can combine the two and come to some sort of compromise, and this is what I do a lot of the time. But if the two are ever polarised, I always follow my heart. Decisions made from my heart tend to be ones that make me happier and ones that intuitively seem right. "Head" decisions might be sensible, but what people perceive to be sensible doesn't always result in happiness, and happiness is one of the most valuable things in my world.

Your head, with a little bit of input from your heart. Ultimately, you should make the decision with your brain, but keep your brain aware of what your heart is saying. Your "gut reaction" should be just one part of the decision-making process, but shouldn't be ignored completely.

I agree with getting alone and being still, but listen to God, not yourself. Base decisions on real truth, not emotional thoughts and feelings. just my .02

Agreed!

I believe you shouldn't totally discount your feelings, even if they seem to be irrational... but in general, decisions should be based on logic, reason, truth, and your moral/ethical frameworks of choice.

A little from column A, a little from column B.

For example... when it came time for me to quit my job, I honestly wanted to do it right then & there. But, that came with consequences such as losing my health benefits until I got married.

So I thought about what I wanted with all my heart (to quit my job) and then using my head picked the best time to do it.

Another agreement with Amanda. Head, but a little of your heart. You gotta be smart about your decisions, but still try to live with as little regret as possible by not ignoring your feelings.

I also agree with the Oprah comment, it really helps to be alone and quiet and focus on just you.

Good luck!

I follow my head, my heart can't be trusted to be rational and make good decisions ,thats just me. I find in reflecting upon when I have made the best choices 9/10 it was because I used my head. For some following their heart proves to be better so maybe reflecting about past major life decisions and how you went about them might help.

A little of both... I write down the pros and cons, think about it a bit and go from there. Good luck!

oh, boy. tough question. I guess it depends on the situation. A lot of times, my head tells me that I can't be happy unless I follow my heart, and other times my head tells me that I'll be totally miserable if I follow my heart. So I guess it's a combination.

When I think with my head, I come up with lots of arguments, fears and rationalizations against doing what I think I should do. And then I follow my heart and wish I had done it years earlier (quitting a high stress job and changing career fields being one of those decisions).

Follow your heart but add a dash of rational. Good luck to you!
