NEW YORK - A Wal-Mart worker has died after being trampled by a throng of unruly shoppers shortly after the Long Island store opened Friday, police said. Unconfirmed reports said a pregnant woman also miscarried as the crowd rushed in.
Nassau County police said the 34-year-old Wal-Mart worker was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at about 6 a.m. ET, an hour after the store opened.
A police statement said a throng of shoppers "physically broke down the doors, knocking him to the ground." The exact cause of death "will be determined by the medical examiner's office," the police stated.
And the pregnant woman that lost her baby...yeah, you could have saved some money on a few things that would last...mmm...couple years, maybe, before being replaced. But now you don't have your baby, and you can't ever replace that. How do you cope with that?
When they tell you that "Black Friday" means "the most profitable day of the shopping year", that's baloney. It originally MEANT the crowds, the traffic, the resultant headaches ...
Insane is an understatement. I personally will dread any shopping for the next month and will avoid it at all costs. I rather spend more money on something than deal with the crowds.
My husband told me about this and I just think it is so freaking sad. It's sad that people have become so greedy and crazy...there is nothing out there on sale that would get me out to these sells...it's crazy and so not worth it.
So sad but I can understand how it happens...I was almost killed at several USC games years ago....many years ago...34-35...and a WHO concert...when you don't have designated seats/space people...fools rush in
The adrenalin gets going and people lose their senses. I doubt if anyone in the crowd would have even punched the poor man that was killed one-on-one to get by him.
People in packs are dangerous!
You should see my fingers flying when Dodger tickets go on sale....rush!
I think we will see more of this stuff as we sink deeper and deeper into the depths of our economy. Could be desperate times ahead for many.
Since we don't live like it is CHRISTMAS every day...these things happen.
That is just so sad. What is wrong with people?!?!
My friend and I went shopping on black friday..and I apologized to everyone I bumped into, and made sure I was extra nice to everyone. Theres no need for all that madness.

Wow... That is just shocking!!! What happened to caring and kindness?
We don't have Black Friday in Canada - and in a way I'm kind of happy.
We have boxing day after Christmas - where you get all the deals, but not nearly as good as Black Friday in the US.... a 50 inch plasma tv for 700?? whoa
