The 2008 Olympics

We are only 2 weeks away from the 2008 OLYMPICS.

I will be watching EVERYTHING I can....

What about you?

I love the Olympics...but I'm more of a Winter Olympics fan. Hockey, you know... When I was in high school, the olympics were right here in my back yard in Lake Placid (about an hour and half away). I had a huge crush on Eric Heiden who won 5 gold medals in speed skating...and he had phenomenal legs!! :faint: About 5 years ago, I rode on the bobsled run with my daughter. They had a professional in the front and back and we rode in the middle. I had a huge bruise on my arm from the last turn and a brief moment where my life flashed before my eyes and I questioned my sanity as a mother, bringing my daughter on that thing...but what a BLAST!!! The sled takes the last turn at breakneck speeds...I want to say 80 mph, but I'm not sure. And then you can take the elevator up to the top of the ski jump. It has to take a total lunatic to actually jump from one of those things.

The Olympics ROCK! I particularly love
1. the opening ceremonies
2. horsey stuff
3. diving
4. some of the more obscure track-n-field stuff

murphmitch 07-25-2008 09:58 PM

I'll be watching Shawn Johnson (gymnastics) from West Des Moines, Iowa & Lolo Jones (women's hurdles) from Des Moines, Iowa. Both local girls. Everyone here is so excited for them!

I'm also very excited!

I love watching women's artistic gymnastics (not really rhythmic) and some men's. I also really like diving and track n field.

Clydegirl 07-25-2008 10:15 PM

I enjoy the track and field, gymnastics and swimming.

I also like the cycling.

I wish they would show more of it live and not delay it for the evening show.

Sweetcaroline 07-25-2008 11:10 PM

I love the Olympics, I think the best thing they ever did was separate Winter and Summer and not have both every 4 years....

I'll be watching as much as I can but my favorites are swimming, diving, gymnastics, men's beach volleyball, track and field especially javelin, high jump, long jump... oh... I love it all... can't wait..

WaterRat 07-26-2008 01:50 AM

Hmmm, I'll watch most anything - love it all! But, here's the down side. I'm going to be traveling from the 11 through the 16th. Here's hoping that the GF I'm with likes them - and that the B&B's/hotels we're in, which are in the Yukon, will have them on! So I'll get to see the beginning and the end, and anything else is gravy! :)

Tomato 07-26-2008 09:39 AM

I'll watch if I have time. I would really like to see Dara Torres.

bargoo 07-26-2008 09:43 AM

Swimming and gymnastics.

babenwaiting 07-26-2008 12:07 PM

I can hardly wait. Being retired, I can watch most of it! I want to see the U.S. really shine in swimming. GO MICHAEL & KATIE! Also, Cullen Jones from N. C. State. :swim: :running: :bike: Love almost everything ... the gymnastics almost give me a heart attack!

GO USA!!!

LET'S GO, YANKS!!!

GradPhase 07-26-2008 05:04 PM

I've never actually seen anything to do with the Olympics, ever. I'll watch it this year though, just because I have nothing else better to do.

My best friend/ roommate is doing a few semesters in Beijing to learn Mandarin before business school (She's definitely going to be a multi millionaire, I can see it now.....) Anyway - she's saying that prices for everything are dropping like CRAZY in anticipation of the huge amount of people coming in to the city in the next few weeks. I hope it's a concept other hosting countries pick up, so more people can afford to come and enjoy the event! I'm doubting it, but wouldn't THAT be nice!
