It blew threw my part of Alabama in about and hour and was gone. The rain was like a monsoon and the wind, thunder, and lightening were terrible, but you would never know anything happened. Thank goodness!!
tornado sirens went off here about midnight, then I found out they went off again at 4 am, it was mostly north of us, but we still had tornado warnings, it was awful, we went my MIL's house and ended up sleeping in the basement.....I want a house with a basement
We had tornado sirens for a good many hours here. The way the town is, tornadoes never come directly through, always around. Got several amazing pictures from my patio of a few funnel clouds, but there were only a handful of injuries. Thank god, it was after five when the tornado smooshed the Caterpillar plant a couple miles north of town.
Saw the video from Memphis on tv last night when we were watching for warnings. One of the news shows there had the camera on top of their building catch the one that went through the shopping mall and the interstate.
We're okay here too. Can't say that for people in neighboring counties though. We were so lucky! The bad part passed by here while I was at work. Spent the last hour there in the dark though. The news has been hard to watch.
I slept in my basement because, like Shelbysmom (in KY as well), the tornado sirens went off around midnight and then again very early in the morning. We slept in the basement and the sound of the wind was terrifying...but we're doing well.
My DH called tonite from his job site in Conway , AR. The town 10 miles from his Oil Rig was torn apart. He and his co-workers are all safe. They did have some vehicles overturned by the winds.
All my family is safe, thank goodness...but my parents are discussing going out to help with cleanup, since that is where my dad was born and raised...

I live about 3 miles east of the mall that was hit. And I work right in the area where the building collapsed and killed 3 people. In fact, one of the tornadoes (there were 9 in all in the storm cell) cut right through our office complex and badly damaged one of the buildings with lots of destruction to the cars in the parking lots of all the buildings in the complex.
Fortunately, we were allowed to leave a bit early and I got home with sirens blaring all around and dark swirling clouds about. I had never before seen purple on a radar screen before - even when I lived in tornado alley in Illinois. The tornados here starting touching down about 30 minutes after I got home. There were some people still working at the time and having a meeting in the building in our office complex that got hit and though they were shaken up pretty badly, no one was injured. Considering the weather hit just on the tail of rush hour, it's most fortunate that it wasn't as bad as it could have been.
Lots of building damage though and we have tufts of yellow commercial insulation scattered all over the neighborhood - we think it came from the industrial park over 10 miles away!
Just grateful that most of us are safe and sound and our prayers go to the families that lost loved ones throughout the area.
We've been getting more and more tonadoes in Alberta over the past few years. Many funnel clouds in Calgary - but none have touched down within the city limits yet. I think the mountain range being so close helps... but there is no guarantee that it can prevent them.

We woke up around midnite as well and then the lights went out and sirens went off....the wind was crazy wild outside....dh had us all in the basement....me & dd slept while ds & dh stayed awake through the night...school was closed on Weds because one of our high schools was hit pretty badly and some areas were without power to mid morning(as were we) only damage we had was a shutter on an upstairs window was blown off...but not damaged
