Taxes

  • Ok, where to begin. I babysat a little boy last year for about 3 months. His mother didn't want to give out her Social Security number for taxes so we decided to do it under the table. Well, her and I had a falling out in October and she found someone else to watch her son. I filed my taxes last week and now she calls me BLAKCMAILING me for money because I have already done my taxes without stating that I earned money from her. So, now I have to go to the tax place and pull my money, which is en route to me right now, and have it changed that I earned a misely $945.00 last year and pay, yet, another fee for this. I am never babysitting AGAIN!!!
  • I don't quite understand... you didn't need her Social Security Number, she needed yours, if you were babysitting for her.

Second of all, how can she be blackmailing you? Is she trying to deduct what she paid you as dependent care expense?

I am a professional tax preparer. If you want to discuss this, send me a PM.

  • I see you got your signature! =0)

That is terrible! She doesn't sound like a very nice person. I don't babysit that often, but when I do it's just as a favor.

    I would PM Jay!!
  • yes, I got my signature.....I was so darned happy about that
  • This is a strange twist. This could hurt her as much as it does you. Definitely contact JayE.
  • Hmm, I don't know what to say but we had a similar situation last year with our daycare provider. She had an in-home daycare business and it never could be under the table because we use a flex spending account for daycare. We pulled our baby out one day after we became very concerned for her safety while there. When we were filing taxes months later we learned we needed her SSN and she was refusing to give it to us. We finally had our tax guy call her and harass her because she HAD to give it up.

My biggest hope in the whole situation was that she would be forced to close her business due to her fraudulent business practices, since apparently endangering children wasn't enough to get her closed down. (Trust me, I reported her to the authorities as soon as I could).

    Grrr.

Sorry for hijacking. It sounds like you have a tax person, can you just explain the situation to him or her and get advice? I can't imagine the taxes on that amount of money would be that much, and you could just say you didn't realize you should report that (play dumb). No way should you pay that lady, that is wrong.
  • Just for everyone's information--any professional daycare provider is required to provide you with a statement of services that includes their tax ID number, their address, and how much you paid them. You really do have to have this information to claim a deduction for daycare because you work. Anyone who will not give you this information is cheating you out of a potential deduction--and probably trying to fudge on their taxes.
