what is everyone doing for valentines day?

I have no clue what to do for v-day. I just started my diet and i'm doing pretty good so far. plus, i want to steer away from the regular out-to-dinner routine. I really want to surprise my husband romanticly and in a way that won't ruin my progress, any ideas?

SoulBliss 01-15-2008 04:41 PM

There are plenty of things you can do that not only have no calories but BURN calories! I'm sure your husband would be pleasantly surprised. ;)

mandalinn82 01-15-2008 04:52 PM

The same thing I do every year - sitting at home by myself (my partner is a florist...we haven't EVER seen eachother on Valentine's Day).

We usually reschedule ours for the Saturday following the actual day, and do something FUN...like roller skating at a skating rink! We might also cook something fabulous together (easy to keep it on plan, plus cooking together, for us, is sexy!)

misschris531 01-15-2008 04:57 PM

Well, nothing. I am not seeing anyone, and my mom & dad know better than to give me food-related gifts. They usually get us a little something.

FrouFrou 01-15-2008 05:17 PM

Absolutely nothing! I thnk V-Day is so overrated...I mean why do you need a "special" day to show your love to your SO? But...what we usually do is dinner but a day or two before the 14th or a day or two after...depending on when it is. I haven't even looked at the calendar that far ahead.

amouse 01-15-2008 05:20 PM

me and my hubby want to go see i am legend at the theatre, so i think v day would be a great day to do it.. gets the kids sat and we can go :) will be great .

shantroy 01-15-2008 05:33 PM

Valentines is my mom's b-day so I'll probably meet her for lunch.

My bf doesn't believe in Valentines (he's like froufrou... he doesn't need a special day to tell me how much he loves me). He also, says that it's the one night that all the losers, who'd otherwise never do anything get dressed up and take out their gfs drop a hundred bucks on dinner and then think they're the greatest. (I kinda agree with that. I waitressed for to many v-days not to sorta believe it. But don't tell him that!)

He knows it means a lot to me so he'll get me a card, he bought me a gift (I was very surprised!) and gave it to me on sunday, b/c he was worried I'd go out and buy it myself. LOL

This year we're going to have two types of cheese foundu (A totally plan killer, I know... but yummy) and watch movies. We'll cook together share a bottle of wine or two and snuggle on the couch.

HeatherAngel 01-15-2008 05:40 PM

Hubby has booked us a long weekend away skiing, but the following weekend, as he has a business strip that crosses Valentine's Day. It's very exciting - not least because he NEVER celebrates V-Day ;) I can't wait!!

Heather :D

tkglenn 01-16-2008 10:15 AM

Yeah, we usually will celebrate the weekend after or before or a few days because of how busy it'll get. Just wondering if anyone has any good romantic ideas that'll surprised their honey.

modkittn 01-16-2008 10:51 AM

DH and I never really do anything for Valentines Day. It will be our 9th together this year, and we've only ever done something once. It will probably be like any other night for us!

nelie 01-16-2008 12:32 PM

Valentine's is just another day for me and my DH. I'm another one that doesn't see the big deal with Valentine's day and really don't like it as a holiday.

Although every weekend, DH and I usually do something fun together.

tamaralynn 01-16-2008 06:52 PM

We'll probably go out the week before or week after for dinner. I'll make a nice dinner at home for the family :)

Amberelise 01-17-2008 04:19 PM

Last year I bought 100 tea candles with votives and lit them all around the apartment. I also lit every other candle I already own.

Fiance LOVED IT.

He's really senstive like that, though.

tkglenn 01-17-2008 05:12 PM

awwwwww.......I wish my husband was a softy, he wants me to do all the work.

NaturalStupidit 01-17-2008 07:47 PM

I really don't think we're doing anything for valentines day. The first year my boyfriend and I were together we went to dinner and a movie I believe. Last year he had school so while he was at school I went to his house, cleaned his room, did his laundry and left him some valentines stuff on his bed along with dinner for when he got home. I believe he gave me a necklace. Then this year I don't think we're doing anything because he says he doesn't really believe in it. Part of me doesn't either, but part of me wants HIM to be the one doing soemthing cute this year. (Last year when he got home and found all of the stuff he was really touched. . . like really touched hehe) I want HIM to be the one to plan something!

GONNABE165 02-06-2008 04:44 PM

dh has made dinner reservations for us & then we are thinking of catching a movie

Ohhhhhh be careful!!! Everyone in my family says this movie is a MAJOR downer--- don't go if it will kill your romantic mood for the evening!!!!

Even my macho 28 year old brother said he was upset when it was over!!!

As for us--- for our wedding we were given a nice gift certificate for a bed and breakfast package near town---- So we're going for a 5 course meal, lodging, and a country breakfast... we head over there this Sunday and missing work on Monday-- doing V-day a little early, but that's okay since he works two jobs and I won't really get to see him that day (weekday) anyhow.

I know! Bad food! Watch out Jen!! But, I figure that I have been SOOOOO good and lost 3.2 pounds this week even WITH going to a superbowl party last week.... that I am okay to splurge for our special weekend (we don't spend a ton of money on ourselves b/c we are saving to buy a house next year) and I will eat what looks appealing, then go RIGHT back on plan and hopefully won't gain (might not lose) when I weigh in next wednesday.

shelby897 02-06-2008 04:59 PM

My husband and I have probably been out twice since we had kids 8 years ago -- our local library is offering babysitting so parents can go out -- I'm looking for a good idea too -- movie sounds good -- if I don't get that nasty, fat laden popcorn!! :D

cbmare 02-06-2008 05:34 PM

I will be on the Disney Magic getting ready for my DDs wedding on the 15th.

MrsEnigma 02-06-2008 07:11 PM

We don't plan anything special for Valentine's Day. We do like to get one another a little something though. I showed him a bra/panty set I would like, so I'm pretty sure he's getting that for me. I'll be getting him some sexy boxers. ;)

Last year, I worked until 7PM so DH made me a lovely dinner...grilled steaks, salad, tiramisu. I have to work late again this year, so we will probably do the same thing. Had candles on a card table in front of our fireplace. Since I'm on South Beach this year, I think I'll make the Mocha Ricotta Creme-tastes a lot like tiramisu. He always gets flowers for all my kids & me. I usuallly get him something chocolate! Maybe some dark chocolate this year.

I think my husband would enjoy this :) It's a great idea!

As far as I know ..........nothing.............. I keep hinting to hubby, but he just don't get it, bless his heart, he's a dingaling.. my hubby has NO romantic bone in his body, I have to tell him what I want.lol, well he usually just asks, "what do want for v~day?" I should have been the man and him the woman, because I usually end up doing something for him!!

GONNABE165 02-07-2008 09:46 AM

Oh Mare I want to spend valentines with you - it's abeautiful ship. I just love the customer service they offer it's top notch.

HarpoChicoGroucho 02-08-2008 03:07 PM

This is the first Valentine's Day where I won't be spending it with my Mom! Whatever my boyfriend and I do is fine with me!

shantroy 02-08-2008 03:59 PM

My office is doing a wine and chocolate tasting party afterwork. We're going to a resturant and the Onophile (a wine expert) is going to talk to us about pairing certain wines with different kinds of chocolate. It should be tons of fun. Then my bf and I are meeting my folks for a really nice dinner. My mom's bday is vday. So, my bf and I are going to celebrate on the 15th. We're going to make fondue and watch cheesy romantic movies.

KateRN 02-08-2008 09:08 PM

i have no idea. this is the first year my boyfriend and i will be together for valentine's day. he hasn't even mentioned it to me once. so either he is planning something, or is going to let it pass and not do a thing.

we shall see, i guess.

lilybelle 02-11-2008 01:19 AM

I will spend most of the day on Valentines taking my 15 yr. old DD to her pediatric gastroenterologist. If we get home in time that night, the karaoke club we go to is having its annual anti-valentines bash. The woman that writes the best poem about her EX wins $50 and the man that writes the best poem about his EX wins a blow-up doll. Hoping we can make it to the party cause if DH doesn't start helping more with painting the house, he's gonna need that doll. LOL.

Today I bought the stuff and made gift bags for our two 15 yr. old girls for Valentines. The girls did tell me tonite that DH was taking them shopping to pick me out something for VD.

Having no one around to buy for me, I bought myself a Valentine's Day gift -- a new puppy! I'm going to pick him up on Thursday. Here's his picture:

Rhighlan86 02-11-2008 02:18 PM

I don't know what we will be doing because dbf is in NC for work and I am in WV. So there's not a whole lot to do except homework I figure  He has it pretty easy because I LOVE stuffed animals.

I remember though our first VD together we had been with each other for 4 months. I had gotten really sick the day before and he was scared b/c I had to go to the emergency room and it was a whole ordeal, but once I was out of the hospital he took me to lunch and then we ended up walking around Petco. Well I decided I wanted a puppy, shes a collie sheltie mix; he hemmed and hawed a little bit, but once she licked him he was hooked. Anyways he kept her at his apartment and on VD I went over b/c he was cooking dinner for me and I get there to find this huge stuffed puppy that actually looks like our new puppy. It was too funny b/c he's trying to cook and our puppy was attacking my stuffed puppy (I think she thought it was real, she was dingy sometimes). That night was so much fun!

Tonia 02-11-2008 02:50 PM

DH and I don't get too much time alone (hard to with four kids) so we are going out to dinner and maybe a little shopping. We don't believe in VD per se but our anniversary (17 years!) was in late Jan and we were super busy so we picked a day to go out and it just happened to be right near VD.

So, this place we are going is a fabulous Italian place and I have a plan...my calories will be over but I will save for them and should be okay overall.
