Default Minneapolis Chicks!

Hi there...I just wondered if anyone from the Minneapolis area can give me an idea of neighborhoods that are good to raise kids in...good schools, safe neighborhoods, etc. My husband was, pretty much, offered a job with Snyder Drugs...which he's 99% sure he's not going to take because we live in NY and haven't ever considered moving to Minnesota because, well, it's just never come up before. BUT, just off the cuff, I thought I'd look at real estate in Minneapolis and, of course, I'd need to know where the family-oriented suburbs are located. Any suggestions? So far, I've been FLOORED at the low property taxes I've seen. You don't want to even know what it's like here in NY!! That, alone, makes MN look attractive.

Im not from Minneapolis, but I live south of there. So I can't help you with the neighborhood choice, but you will like MN it is very pretty and people are very nice. Hope you like it also.

Gary...but I'm living in northern new york...not Yonkers, but up here next to Canada. I like snow and winter. We had a two week stretch here about two years ago where the high temperature at noon was about 20 to 30 below zero. It got down to 45 below at night. When the ice breaker came through to open up the shipping channel, the ice on the river 6 feet deep!! If I can handle that, I'm pretty sure I can handle Minnesota's weather. Not like my Phillipino sister in law that had to move to San Diego to get away from the harsh winters in Albuequerque. Besides, I'm sure in Minneapolis, I could warm up nicely in the Mall of America

Besides, I'm 99% sure I'm NOT moving to MN..although a move would be exciting (kind of like getting shot by a tazer gun is exciting), since he was offered a job there, I just had to poke around in the real estate in the Minneapolis area out of curiosity. But thanks for the warning? (you southern californians are such whimps when it comes to the white stuff... :P )

Hey! I live in Minneapolis...lots of nice family-friendly suburbs around here. (Apple Valley, Bloomington, Edina, Eagan to name a few of my favorites) Your husband is a pharmacist? I am in pharmacy school, and might be working with Snyders as an intern this summer
I would say definately at least look into Minnesota a little deeper...if you like cold and winter (which is why most people who don't like Minnesota leave), you will love it
Let me know if you have any other questions about Minnesota!

No, my husband fixes one-hour photo labs and the walk-up kiosks that you put your digital card into. They're mostly in drug stores and the latest chain to pick up the company DH works for is Snyders...so there goes my DH off to Minnesota for a week and is offered a job. But my DH told the guy how much he makes and the guy said that they couldn't even come close to that, so we aren't moving. But once the offer is made, it's always smart to look into it before totally closing the idea out. Know what I'm sayin?

Especially when you compare cost of living. New York salaries are always on the astronomical side....until you have to live on them! People usually end up a lot better off taking less money and living elsewhere. Go figure!

There is a HUGE difference in the cost of living and salary around here!!! I'm not in MN, but I'm just a hop, skip and a jump. My husband is constantly telling me that we should move because he could be making so much more elsewhere and I keep having to remind him (men ) that the cost of living is a lot higher too.

Well, once upon a time, my husband I looked into moving to Southern California (where he's from (gary)). He had an opportunity to transfer within his company...same job, SAME SALARY, only about a $3,000/month mortgage (or something to that effect), as opposed to our $450/month mortgage we have now. He would have to get an additional job and I'd also have to get something or two full-time. We put that idea out to pasture very quickly.
