ALLISON ~ Angie and I do anywhere from 3 to 7 5K's a year, depending on where I am at work. If I am out of town I don't do any training....not that you really need to at my speed! I almost always walk them anymore or turtlejog between my walking. Angie always trains to run, but if she is having back or knee issues she will walk them too. We always do the CARLSBAD 5000 if we are in town. It is huge, over 10,000 runners for adults and 4,000 in the kids races the day before. We almost always do a Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving, we had been doing one in Dana Point, it got really big too, then last year they started one in our city to raise $$$ for schools, we did it and had so much fun we signed up last week-end to do it again. The one we did about a month ago was a trail run/walk. In our area there are a lot to choose from within 50 miles all the time. Actually Angie mentioned last night that she wanted us to do a 5K through the vineyards in Temecula coming May 5...we were walking into church and never finished the conversation though. We pick up a magazine called Raceplace in the sporting goods store, it has a list of races months in advance. you can www.com them at that name for a list. We usually do two fundraiser ones too each year, one for my kid's and mine old high school to raise money for the cross-country team. The coach is a good friend of ours still from the time he coached our son and we do one for my son's college to raise money for their cross country team, Steve Scott is a friend of my son's and his ex-coach. Steve holds the record for most sub-4 minute miles I believe. He is at many of our 5K's. Sometimes it is just Angie and I and sometimes the kids go too, just depends on their schedules. Also our brother and sister in law join us from time to time.

We are closing in on the 10th anniversary first 5K I ever did. It was in August of 1997, the day after I quit smoking It was in San Clemente, my wife and daughter walked it with me, my son ran it (he was on the cross country team in high school) then came back and walked the last 2 miles with us! We have done many races since and have had such a great time. Angie and I even did a marathon, 26.2 miles in 2001...probably not doing that again though, too much training!
