Bargoo, I do know it gets cold in California. When I lived in Davis, we used to often get a period in winter when the temps never hit 40 F and there was pea soup fog. This could last for weeks. Freezing was not unusual in winter and we even had snow on occasion.
Right now here in Amsterdam, although cold, it is a beautifully clear day. Great start to the new year

Just to get my 2 cents in here---it's now -7F with wind chill about -25F---I really, really wonder what made the original settlers to this area stay here after the first winter:brr: I'd have been gone as soon as the melt came!

Day 2 of the New Year ~

4 out of 5 Resolutions broken already....

#5 ~ "Don't over do exercise in the beginning" .....still good

What a slug! I slept in on Day 2 of 2010. I'd better get with it and onto the treadmill if I intend to be around for 2020.

Will my vision improve that year?

Gary thank you for the smile! Today was going to be the day that I was a slug... going to sleep in and basically do nothing today. WELL my dh is up and at it...I hear the saw downstairs going and he is busy busy busy...doing something in the spare room...which btw is his walk-in closet. He won't tell me because I always pooh-pooh his ideas...REALLY? So much for my slug day... I gotta MOVE IT BABY!

'Twas the month after Christmas,

The cookies I'd nibbled, the eggnog I'd taste at the holiday parties had gone to my waist.
When I got on the scales
there arose such a number!
When I walked to the store

And the way I'd never said, "No thank you, please."

" You can't spend a winter disguised as a man! "



So--away with the last of the sour cream dip,
Get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chips



Every last bit of food that I like must be banished
" Till all the additional ounces have vanished.
I won't have a cookie--not even a lick.
I'll want to chew only on a long celery stick.

I won't have hot biscuits, or corn bread, or pie,
I'll munch on a carrot and quietly cry.
I'm hungry, I'm lonesome, and life is a bore---
But isn't that what January is for?
Unable to giggle, no longer a riot.
