Hi, I read a article in Family Circle that a low-glycemic diet boosts your metabolism and may be easier for overweight dieters to stay on. Is that what the Sugar Busters is? I am trying to make sure that I have the right diet before I buy any books. I am currently on Weight Watchers, but this plan may be a better option for me. Thanks!
HI! Sorry for the tardiness of this reply. Yes, Sugarbusters is low glycemic. It is based on the Montignac plan, which is the original low glycemic plan written by a French man named Michel Montignac. I find it much easier to follow than any other diet I have ever been on, and it works! There are a number of losers who post regularly who have lost over 100 on Sugarbusters. Come join us over on the weekly support board, where most of us hang out regularly!
hi i went to your weekly thread but it was too confusing for me as i don't know what the SB plan is and youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu guys are all posting about so much stuff there unrelated to SB.
is there a post or link with a basic outline? i am sugar addicted and prediabetic. so in theory probably a good idea. i know i read the book once but have read so many diet books i can't remember which was which
Hi Sweet Pea: Yes, we DO tend to gaggle on endlessly about every day life...but in the end, we're there to support one another on our weight-loss journey and sometimes talking about every day life challenges or triumphs helps us through dieting hurdles like bingeing when we're upset or eating cake at a wedding... Know what I mean? We help each other stay on the wagon this way.
To answer your question...this is MY take on SB. Basically, no whites (flour, rice or potatoes) or other enriched flours. AND, at each meal, you need one protien and two veggies/fruits and don't forget a small legal snack in between meals like an apple or handful of nuts. Oh...and, of course, no sugar, including incognito sugars like high fructose corn syrup (most anything ending in "ose" is a sugar - except Sucralose is okay - lactose is okay, as well and you'll find those in dairy products). You are trying to avoid a spike in insulin levels and some things that spike them are pinapple, beets, excessive carrots, ripe bananas, watermelon, corn (and ALL corn products, including starch). This, to me, is the basics. There is much more to it, and with that, I'd suggest heavily you read the book again so you can really understand it. Or ask us questions. If we're up to our neck on the Support Board talking about our husbands or kids or other unrelated topics, just barge in and ask the questions you have. We'll answer all your questions...

OMG that is way too strict for me. honestly i couldn't cope on such a restrictive diet. good luck
Sweet Pea: Yes, it's an adjustment, no doubt about it. BUT, it's a giant step towards healthier eating and cutting out MAJOR foods that lead to addictions. And once you get used to the adjustments in your grocery shopping, it's really simple to stick to. And...it works! Choice is always yours...good luck with what you decide on!! Any other questions, we're here to help!!
Hi Sweet Pea... Sugar Busters SOUNDS restrictive, but it is not. You just substitute whole grains for white flour, sweet potatoes for white ones...etc. If you are pre-diabetic, it is the best diet to follow. I was hyperinsulinemic for years and followed Sugar Busters. Unfortunately, the last few months, I have fudged here and there, and cheated on some things, eating potatoes, or corn products, that kind of thing, and I just went over to the dark side and I am now considered a full blown diabetic. I could just kick myself for not being more careful.
I hope you can find a plan that will help you with the pre-diabetes. A low GI will... If it is too much to change all at once, try making small changes, like switching to 100% whole wheat bread, then whole grain pasta, etc.
this is ladybug53 i am new to this site, and need to loose 60 plus pounds hopefully by christmas 08. I tried weight watchers, and did not loose the weight.
