Honestly, I've always been able to finish off a footlong sub (no chips though) by myself since I was a teenager. Granted, I always skipped breakfast back then so it was breakfast/lunch all in one for me.
I can order a 6 inch and be satisfied if I get a lot more veggie fillings in it, no cheese and dots of my favorite sauce (southwestern chipotle) with a bag of chips but I can still easily finish off a footlong if it's within my calories for the day. Like Sontaikle said, sometimes you just want a big meal. If you reallyreallyreally like big meals instead of small meals throughout the day like I do, you may want to look into intermittent fasting. |
Oh I used to eat foot long subs... My problem is that I like the tuna and that is a TON of mayo... I try to order turkey subs now and I only get 6inch subs. I still feel like a fat kid sometimes and want the whole 12inch sub. BUT they are right that is a good bit of food for that 700 cals and if you ate light the rest of the day you probably didn't do too much damage

subway has such great subs! i love them :D

Admittedly I do the split style sometimes too. I'd order a foot long on white (I hear the Italian white bread has a lot less sugar in it), take out the insides then toss in some oven roasted chicken, white cheese (yea yea, I can't help it, I love cheese!) green peppers, onions, lettuce and honey mustard. I then eat one with some lower calorie chips (~100 cal) and keep the other one for dinner (...or eat it 40 minutes later like another poster did!) I have to admit it is my go-to food when I don't want to think about calories - mainly because I know that eating both would still be less than 700 calories giving me 500-600 to play with for the rest of the day.

Yes... Easily....
Good on you for choosing healthy! |
no problems with polishing off a foot-long myself. LOL
And you got my favorite sub!!!! roasted chicken, veggies, and honeymustard! No cheese and I like the 9-grain oat bread. Great sub, without a lot of guilt! :D |
Oh man, now I'm craving Subway. And yes, I've certainly polished off a footlong before!
NatalieGM- I also really like their tuna- and guess what? I figured out how to make a lower-cal version of it! The secret is to use the food processor. I put in some onions and pickles and process that for a second, then add ff mayo (or sometimes half ff and half low-fat mayo b/c the ff is pretty thin), tuna, and salt and pepper and whirr it around for another few seconds. Voila! Subway-style tuna with a fraction of the calories. You can use less mayo this way than w/ regular stirred tuna salad, I've found, for whatever reason. Still maybe not an everyday thing, but it's pretty reasonable. |
Hahahaha! The ad banner at the top of this page is now for Subway. Gotta love targeted advertising.

I fricken love subway, it has been hard not to order a foot long! But the other day I was really hungry and not in the mood to cook. So I went to their website and built my own for around 720ish calories. I had no cheese or any kind of sauces and a load of veggies! It can be very high calorie when you just get whatever you want on it (like I used to) For fun I calculated my husbands sub and I was in shock, 1500 calories... That's a whole day for me, just blew my mind.

I can easily eat a foot long veggie sub. I don't get them very often though, because my kids don't like subs.
|
I have done that a few times. LOL

I LOOOOVE a Footlong from subway!!! My ONLY problem with a footlong is the bread. The 12 inch itallian (just the bread) is VERY low in fat, BUT has about 400 calories and 80 carbs. That's why I stopped eating the bread--I order my sandwhich and put the meat and veggies in a low-carb tortilla instead. I really DO NOT miss the bread. The tortillas I use have 81 calories each and 11 carbs. So that's been my trick for years on saving over 200 calories and almost 60 carbs and STILL being able to enjoy my beloved Subway footlong!!!! And if I KNOW I will be eating AT a Subway restaraunt--YES I bring a pack of tortillas with me in my bag! (Im weird like that!). I also bring low-fat salad dressing to restaraunts! I have NO shame!!! Haha!

Oh I don't feel so alone now! I love subway! I always get a footlong roasted chicken breast on wheat with pepperjack cheese, lettuce, tomato, 1 line of light mayo, mustard and a little salt and pepper. Sometimes I get banana peppers on there too. I USED TO get the same thing except instead of 1 line of light mayo I wouyget ranch(a good bit). I just guess that the way I get mine now is about 700-800 calories. I don't eat it often though and only on days that it won't go over my calories. For instance, sometimes on grocery shopping days I skip breakfast, go shopping and pick up something like a salad from the deli, a string cheese and an apple. By the time I get done shopping I don't want to cook and just pick up Subway. That's not every shopping trip but occasionally. Don't feel bad, you had some healthy food and stayed within your daily calories.

I've done this many times and it doesn't seem to have derailed my weight loss, I love all the veggies and such.

Footlong Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki was pretty much the norm for me. I always tried to get the 6" but then I would end up calculating that it was costing way more to get that and it would be more cost effective to get the bigger one. I'm kind of learning to just get what I need and forget the cost. I do like the idea of having them remove the middle of the bread. And if I do whole wheat it just might not be bad. Not yet though. Will have to wait until I reach my goal.
