Default Popcorn Advice

So, lately I've been eating 100 calorie bags of kettle corn. They are SO good. But, since I eat it so often, I think that I want to buy a popcorn popper. It should be cheaper and healthier, right?

But there are so many different kinds... for the microwarve, the stovetop, and regular plug in ones. So I'm looking for some great advice from you....which kind do you like? And then once I buy one, what are some healthy and tasty things to put on it/how to fix it?

Thanks for your help friends!

I have a cheap air popper. It's great because there are no additives like butter or salt, if you don't want. Of course, the best part about it is that you control what goes into it.

Beth,

I gave up the microwave bagged stuff because it was so $$ mostly.

I bought a bowl and lid that you put into the microwave. It works great. A BIG sack of popcorn is less thatn 2.00 most of the time and that makes scads of bowls of the stuff when you pop it yourself.

I make a bowl and toss it with a teaspoon of olive oil, some molly mcbutter of Butter buds and salt!

I dont eat enough popcorn for a popper to be cost effective. But it would be a great idea. My parents have had the same popper for over 20 years. If you get a good one it will last forever.
I just wanted to second Linda's suggestion of Butter buds. They are really good!!! There are some flavored popcorn seasonings out there like white cheddar or cheddar or garlic that are sooooo tasty. But I haven't looked at the nutrition since I started dieting, so I dont know if I should be recommending them.
Good luck to you!!!

Hi Beth
I am on WWs and I count points. I buy the 94% fat free butter microwave popcorn. The whole bag is less than 2 pts. Then I use spray butter which is 0 points. If I am in the mood for salty stuff, I use popcorn salt. If I am in the mood for kettle corn, then I use popcorn salt and splenda. All and all, a very low point, low cal snack...

I just make popcorn in a plain old pot with a lid on the stove. No need to buy a popcorn maker It works for me!

BEST POPCORN EVER!!!
Put a few tablespoons of kernels in a paper lunch bag (NO OIL), fold the top a bunch of times until it's all the way down, and microwave on high for about a minute and a half, or until the bag is full! Top with whatever you want!

I am with Kori, paper bags are the best! I buy the larger bags at Target and have 3 cups for 93 calories.

I blogged about how to make popcorn in a paperbag, if you are interested.

I don't use oil or butter either, just a little salt.

If you want salty, buttery popcorn, after popping, spray popcorn with some butter-flavored non-stick cooking spray and then sprinkle Molly McButter on top of that (the Molly adheres to the spray -- otherwise, it will fall to the bottom of the bowl). It's so yummy and makes me feel like I'm eating high calorie popcorn.
