Question Help

Hi,
I am new to these boards. I am 37 years old and recently quit smoking. I am watching my diet and eating healthy but need to get more exercise. I am definitely phobic about exercise and at this point do none at all. Can anyone recommend a DVD that will start me off on working out in a slow pace. I watched one DVD that was so fast and complicated I just laughed and shut if off. I need something realistic. I need to loose about 45 pounds and I know that with quitting smoking the only way I am going to do this is with exercise

I am looking for aerobic dvd's for beginners that will help get my metabolism up. Any suggestions would be great. I don't have a lot of money for a gym membership or to buy dvd's that won't work.

Thanks in advance for the help.

I have found wonderful success with Leslie Sansone's Walk Away the Pounds. They range from 1 mile (15-20 minutes) on up to 5 miles. She also has some strength training ones if/when you're ready for more. You can do them with/without the recommended equipment (light weights, resistance bands, etc.). They are inexpensive and many of them are available at Target, Walmart, etc. She also has a website and right now she's having a sale ($8.95 plus free shipping on any VHS).

I found when I started 1 mile was my MAXIMUM effort. You can do less and build up to it, if that's what you need to do. The steps are easy--it's the pace that gradually builds up to something that is good for your heart. The basic steps are marches in place, side steps, kicks, and knee-lifts. All very low impact. She shows you how to modify if you need lower or higher intensity. She can be a bit over-enthusiastic, but I don't mind that.

Hope you find what you're looking for!

How about PUSH? It's a DVD that lets you choose a personal trainer, and you can choose the beginner level. The DVD has several parts including exercises to build strength as well as cardio. You can choose the type of cardio you want, which could be yoga, dance, etc. The way it works is that you start out as a beginner which is nice and slow, then every month they send you a new DVD that increases the intensity just a little bit, so you are always growing with it. However, you don't have to keep getting them. You can try it for the first month for free (through our link and deal with PUSH), and then cancel if you don't want the monthly dvd service and still keep the free dvd. Go to www.push.tv/3fatchicks if you want to try it out

You might try WHFN's Fitprime series. You can preview clips from each of the workouts on their website www.whfn.com, click on the Fitprimes b/c the Kickbutts are more advanced (which can be discouraging when you need modifications and patience.

I completely agree with the Leslie Sansone Walk Away the Pounds videos. It's low enough impact that you won't really over-do it, but you'll definately know you're working out! Good luck!!!

I agree the the Walk Away the Pounds tapes are the way to go. You can start slowly and keep working your way up. No complicated steps to learn, the movements are easy to do, it's a great place to start!
