Default Leslie Sansone and miles/steps question

Hi: Not sure if this is the right place to post. Last week I purchased and started using Leslie Sansone's Five Mile Walk. I really like it. I've been doing the whole five miles each day.

The same day I purchased a pedometer. I thought that a mile was about 2,000 steps. I don't understand how I'm completing a mile in just the 12 minutes. My pedometer usually reads around 8,000 steps when I've completed all five miles.

How does she calculate the miles if it's not in steps?

The 5 mile workouts are great--aren't they? The new 5 mile Walk Your Way Thin Walk It Off and Tone it Up from Target is one of my favorite workouts. Is that the one you just got?

Your question comes up a lot on Leslie's Walk Club site--and the answer is that Leslie uses the music beat to determine the number of steps to make up the miles. Wearing a pedometer while doing her walking workouts is not going give an accurate reading most of the time. The reason is that for most pedometers (to read accurately) the feet need to be in forward motion to register the steps. With Leslie's workouts--the sidesteps and back kicks are very rarely picked up by the pedometer accurately as the feet are not going in a forward motion like they do in the march steps and knee lifts. HTH?
