Home for the Holidaze

  • In just over 10 days, I get to go home from university for almost a month! I'm so excited, but I'm facing a dilemma... My grandma, who I simply adore, as well as the rest of my family and I are going to be cooking and baking up a storm ...Something I haven't had to worry about for over four months.

    Now, here's my question:

How do you girls, the lovely featherweights, say no to food?? When my grandma offers me another...anything, I have to say yes. What do you do?
  • Say, sorry grandma - I'm stuffed to bursting! I couldn't possibly manage another crumb!

Or take it and say - I'll have it later (if you have the willpower) and then discretely hide it and try and forget about it!
  • If you've said no too many times and they are starting to look hurt, say yes. ONCE. And choose the smallest cookie on the tray. Then, take a bite and leave the rest on your plate (or wad it up in a napkin). If you have just one bite (and only one bite) you will make those cookie pushers happy without giving up your resolve altogether. Good luck.
  • Haha...those are both pretty good ideas, like you ladies were saying, I agree, I'll have to be mighty sneaky about it. And perhaps always go to her (my grandma's house) on a full stomach, that way I'm not tempted by any of the half-dozen varieties of cookies, or cake, muffins, squares, tarts or candy she undoubtably has hanging around I was pretty much born to love sweet stuff (hence the name sweet_talker)

It's so hard to say "no", and I've never really felt like I had to before now...thanks for the advice
  • hahaha, all of those suggestions made me chuckle!
I actually try to avoid the kitchen area all together and keep myself busy with others in different parts of the house. But it is very hard to stay away from at times... one think i dont do is take some home with me. If for some reason it gets pushed on me, i take it with a smile and then stop at a place with a garbage and throw the, away. I feel awful, but i would feel awsul it i ate them too... its a catch 22.
  • What the f? take the food and hide it if you have little or no willpower? Uh, no. That is sneaky, deceptive, and very....weird, lol. Just imagine how you would feel, sneaking that last piece of pie in your jacket pocket...I'd rather refuse the food all together.

But then again, idk how i will get through this holiday with my "dieting..." if you will call it that. I sure picked a doozy of a time to start, didnt i, lol.
  • lol designa. I'm gonna have to agree that hiding food under clothing items is a little odd. im sure the fam will understand if you explain that you're watching what you eat. and im sure your "diet" will understand if you indulge in some yummy treats as well. Balance is key!
