soooo slow. But steady, so I can't complain. Even at this slow rate, I would meet my monthly goal. I only have to focus on not screwing up my diet on the weekends (This weekend was one of the few that I managed to stay entirely on plan!)

Today's weight was a milestone: my lowest weight from last year :D But I was only there for LESS THAN 8 DAYS... next recorded weight was more than 4 pounds higher, and it only went up from there. It's crazy how much work it is to lose weight and how quickly it can all be undone :(

I'm trying to be slightly stricter with my food, carbs from vegetables and fruit only (if I can pull it off for the day, I did yesterday at least)

That's a new number! :carrot: Congratulations, Jen. ;)

Your comment, "If I can pull it off for the day," reminds me of something I wrote a while back: "It's a matter of time and timing." What I mean by that is that I can eat a healthy number of calories today, an amount that allows me to lose weight and still enjoy my life (1200 calories), or, in your case, good carbs. Once I'm done for the day, I tell myself "It's just a matter of time until I eat again. I can deal." Maybe making good choices makes the "good choices muscles" stronger! :lifter: :wl: :workout:

The timing part comes in - not that you need any advice, but it's the end of the saying - getting the food at such a time as to leave me the least hungry and the most satisfied as possible. That will be different for different people, obviously. Some like to drag their calories out through the day, and some, like me, like them kind of all at once, sort of in an "IF" window.

Anyway, thanks for sharing the secrets of your success. :)

No scale fiddlin' at all today :D. Just took the first reading and DONE

:goodscale

NSV: I tried on many BAGS-full of too-small clothing I had in the back of the closet. About 75% of it fits again!!! To me, this is truly amazing. It has been ~ 2 years that these items have been stashed away. Some of the more timeless styles are like 10 years old

I do suspect that I am bigger at the same weight than I was before... different topic entirely and there is nothing I can do about it now. I will address that when I start exercising/weightlifting for real, probably next month.

Isn't that fun? It's like Christmas in August! Way to go, girl!

Well, wow. I had 1600 calories and lost weight. My carbs were at 45. I had an 8 ounce bison burger with 4 ounces brisket and just didn't eat the bun and had literally three or four French fries, all protein, low carb vegetables, cup of blueberries and an orange, the rest of the day and a tbs of raw nuts at like 10 at night. Okay, eat and lose weight. I
will see how this goes.

A lot of you do the low calorie stuff and I commend you. I seem to eat 1500 a day regardless of what I'm eating, otherwise I'm miserable. You guys have way more discipline than I could ever have!

You're way taller than me, and are much more dedicated to exercise, so 1500 calories seems commensurate with that. Going back to your meal, I've got to say that the one time I had bison, it was delicious! :T

Today was also measurement day, and I lost an inch of my chest (not sure that is good), waist and hips.
I am excited to try some new recipes this weekend and found that meal planning this week really kept me on track.

Yes, mine is going away, too (sorry for the TMI) but I've decided to feel like a model. They can be pretty, um, lean in that area. :D

July Recap:
HW: 150.6 (ugh)
LW: 145.0
CW (8/6): 146.6

8/6: 146.6
8/7: TOM started 146.4
8/8: 146.2
8/9: 147.2
8/10: 145.8

I have no idea how my weight went up a pound and then 1.4 pounds in a manner of three days, but I am guessing my TOM and the amount of carbs/sugar and salt are the culprits.

My husband stopped at a "Tudor's Biscuit World" in West Virginia. I was not going to get anything, but I caved and got a biscuit with bacon. These are the biggest biscuits I have ever seen and the best. That one biscuit must have had 500 calories. So, it was 100 g net carbs. Today is another day!

Thanks for the support :)

Lowest weight for July, from the 27th: 104.8

8/1/15 - 106.1
Official Sunday weigh-in: 8/2 - 104.6

Goal for next week: 104.4

8/3 - 109.6
8/4 - 109.55
8/5 - 107
8/6 - 106.75
8/7 - 107.25
8/8 - 106

Official weigh-in, Sunday, August 9: 104.4

Kind of freaked out, as I worked out all last week, and still had to work out for two hours last Sunday morning (8/2) to make weight. This week, I didn't work out AT ALL, and had to work out for two hours the morning of the 9th to make weight. So the only incentive to work out is to BE HEALTHY, not to make weight. That's not as strong of a carrot, lol. :D :carrot: Well, it probably does make things look better, so there's that. ;)

Yeah, right? But since my last "empty" weight was the week before, that seems like it could have been right. I know my weight this morning was a pretty full weight and not exact at all.

Number 1 "Secret": honestly, it is probably having the slightest amount of optimism that it does make a difference what I eat (I was in a pretty low place when I began, had been repeatedly trying to lose weight with no luck and often gave up and just went hog-wild because it "didn't matter what I ate anyway")

But specifically what helps me:
  1. Eating enough of low carb (lots of veggies but no processed carbs) and protein so that I don't get that ravenous, "I don't give a :censored:" feeling. This usually means planning ahead.
  2. Banning binge-inducing crap from my house! (I tend to lose all my resolve when at other people's houses/parties/picnics .... seriously... working on that). Corollary: Keep good quick foods around for times when life doesn't cooperate and there is little motivation to prep a planned meal. (For me that includes frozen veggie burgers, boiled eggs, baked tofu, Quest bars, washed salad greens, cut up celery...)
  3. Having a backup plan! This is one of the recommendations of The Beck Diet Solution... If I can't/won't stick to my low carb/high protein plan, my backup plan is Calorie Counting. (It used to be South Beach Diet, but I found that was too similar to my main plan and basically I was always saying: "F- it, if I can't stick to either of my plans I'm going to just eat whatever I want.... and since it might be the 'last time' I eat crap for a while, I better eat a LOT ... In fact, I'd better gorge myself so maybe I won't crave this any more" :?: :dizzy:) Calorie counting has kept me pretty reigned in. Seeing the numbers scares me straight! Like for almonds, it adds up quickly .... and bread .... UGH
I am so disastrously far from perfect (or even on plan) it is laughable but I am living proof that you don't have to be perfect, just consistent about getting back on track.

CONGRATS on the 137.8, and thank you for the Super Helpful ideas! :carrot: :cb: And your bingeing reminds me of my bingeing. For example, before a diet, I would eat every good thing I could think of, in huge amounts, as "preparation." Talk about self sabotage!

Now thinness overrides everything. Don't know what clicked, but it did. Now I'm like "I don't care. I'm not eating one calorie over what I've allotted." Because then the scale will go up, and I will not get where I want to go, but in the opposite direction. And then I'll just have to claw my way back! :fr:

I hope that wasn't TMI. :o

I really don't know what else I can realistically expect than that so I'm going to be happy and ignore my weight. If my measurements go up, then I'll be concerned.

Okay, let's see if this works: net carbs 50 max if I can do this, limit the junk. I ran five miles today and am already at 15k steps and we haven't even been to the gym yet. I'm negative 87 calories right now. If I gain weight again tomorrow something must be off.

Jen you are TINY! We are near the same height and I remember being around your weight, which was a great weight for me... I bet you look amazing!!

[I wrote a whole long response but I think I am hijacking the weigh-in thread with my musings on scales and non-scale goals.... I miss Featherweights chat threads!]

In summary, you are doing so great Jen (19% body fat? :high:), an inspiration to us all. Checking measurements sounds like a great way to keep track.

My Dad came into town and took my husband and I out to dinner and I went crazy :( I consumer -- a whole bottle of wine, crab rangoons, egg rolls, red curry, etc. It's so hard to say no! So of course, I am up 1.4 lbs this morning :( I am hoping it's mainly water weight from all the carbs -- I normally eat fairly low carb. Hopefully things are closer to 145 tomorrow.

EmmaD 08-13-2015 10:59 AM

seize the day - Definitely carbs and actual food weight! Sounds like a YUMMY dinner and totally worth it! ... And sometimes those kids of days end up jump-starting more weight loss a couple of days later :)

8/11 - 137.8
8/12 - 136.4
8/13 - 136.8 ... 2 pounds away from August goal

My scale said I was 34.5% fat today! ... So the same as when I weighed 14 pounds more??? I don't think it is that accurate, but stiiiilllll... makes me think I need to get a real test done. I know I am out of shape and headed for skinny-fatdom since I currently get little exercise, but this seems extreme.

Two different online body fat estimators gave my body fat at 27.4% and 30%.... but if I used the largest weight measurement it went up to 36% for the second one! I do have much more belly fat these days - I'm a pear with an apple belly now, boooo

Anyway, I am going to focus on getting down less than 135 pounds and then the exercise adventure begins. For real. Seriously...

:yoga: :tread: :woops: :running: :workout: :strong: :wl: :lifter: :yay:

Congrats on that new low, Emma! And I hope people will feel free to start a chat thread. I love them, though I don't always get a chance to post as much as I'd like. But your comments are so fun to read, so I would say don't feel you have to make your posts shorter because this is a weigh-in thread. I like to think of these as all-purpose!

oh yeah, I hear ya - If I look at my weight loss chart, I can see from the bumps up exactly when the "fun" weekends were, and they take 3-4 days of restricting to go back down - sadly I can never keep it at just one meal, it usually turns into 2-3 days of debauchery. This would be one of the reasons why it has taken me nearly 4 months to lose 18 pounds.

RE: online body fat estimators. No idea how accurate they are but here are the ones I have tried:
Navy calculator that uses height, neck, waist and hip size [30%, 96 pounds lean mass]
One that uses wrist and forearm size but not height [27.4%]
One that uses calf and thigh and wrist measurement but not height [27.5%, 99 pounds lean mass]
One that uses height and waist - [29%]
One that uses waist, wrist, hips AND forearm but not height [27%]

^^^ Of course this is all using my smallest waist measurement. My belly has a big roll below that, which = extra fat, so I would imagine I am higher than these predict... who knows.... it's all somewhat speculation.
