Did she seriously say that?

  • I just found out that the phy ed teacher who asked my boss if I was anorexic earlier this year, requested that I NOT sub for her class.
    OMFGoodness.
Pardon me for venting but I want to hit her with a school bus and take her job!
I watch this woman spend 30 minutes on the stationary bike reading a book 2 times a week, not even breathing heavy. I observe her "teach" phy ed by sitting in a CHAIR in the gym. I hear her colleages complain that they're tired of "holding her hand" guiding her curriculum and lesson plans because she doesn't know what to do - her own words.

When I have subbed for her class, the kids have all told me that they got more out of my class than they have in a whole year with this teacher.

I know that Gov. Walker is unpopular with teachers. I get that. But maybe some of his proposals will GET RID of stupid lazy teachers such as this one!

thanks for letting me vent. I feel better now and I'm gonna go eat some chocolate and NOT throw it up!!!!!!!!!!!
  • ha ha - how old are these kids that they'd actually think to say to a phys ed teacher that they got a lot out of the class - that's the oddball thing, too! Rather than just running out when the bell rang and on to the next thing!
  • Well I hope your boss didn't listen to her and told her she can't just request people to not sub for her. I mean what did your boss say? It's pretty unprofessional IMO for him to repeat that to you as it just causes drama IMO.
  • This particular class was sophomores who had asked me for some different ideas to do core work. We did a bunch of fun, challenging things on the stability ball. I admit, it was a pretty cool class. Their regular teacher doesn't practice what she preaches so she has no creativity when it comes to the fitness portion of the class. The kids were bored with her routine.

Let me clarify that I'm a fitness trainer for my gym. I also substitute teach phy ed when I can.
beerab - my boss isn't her boss. Our fitness center is shared with the highschool. So while I'm training clients for my boss, the teachers are often in the gym teaching their class, too. This teacher approached MY boss with the question of anorexia, which I think is utterly unprofessional. This teacher's co-worker (a personal friend of mine) told me about her not wanting me for her sub and that he had heard about the rediculous anorexia thing from my boss, which I think is totally unprofessional on my boss's part.

Small town - I guess people have nothing better to do than gossip.

And yes, teachers in this district are allowed to request specific subs. In fact, before the anorexia thing, this teacher told me she would request me every time. I have a lot of teachers who do that because there aren't any female subs with a phy ed teaching degree here.

On a side note, the friend teacher who told me about the other teacher not wanting me for a sub was complaining about her in the first place, because she called in sick - the tenth time this year. Last year she was "sick" 14 times - the max allowed with pay - and he was saying how she was abusing the system. After school, I went to my boy's away baseball game against her son's team. She was there, healthy as a horse, doing stats at the game.
  • Sounds like a clearcut case of jealousy. However, this:
    Quote:
I feel better now and I'm gonna go eat some chocolate and NOT throw it up!!!!!!!!!!!
concerns me. I apologize if I'm overreacting, because I don't know your history at all, but does this mean you normally (or have in the past) throw up "unhealthy" foods? If so, concerns about an eating disorder might be appropriate. She could be jealous AND making a legitimate observation -- I know you have mentioned that other people have raised similar concerns. I have seen things in some of your other posts that concern me as well in regard to your relationship with food and your body, and I know from experience how easy it is to dismiss other people's true observations.

Again, I sincerely apologize if I've offended you or gotten my facts mixed up. I wish for everyone here a healthy life without going to either extreme.
  • Jewcy, I think that reference to throwing up is a darkly humorous joke made by fitness4life regarding her alleged anorexia, which exists only in the mind of the rival phys ed instructor.

Based on her posts, I do think that fitness4life is more self-critical than many other posters on the site regarding her own body. But I think that her occupation as a phys ed teacher & fitness instructor takes her somewhat out of the mainstream in this regard, since her appearance could affect whether she attracts or retain clients or even gets a full-time job.

Honestly, though, I don't know where the line is dawn when it comes to professionals. How they keep from overtraining while leading multiple classes per day, for instance. Or how much they'd have to do before they could be accused of being "obsessive," as some of us are who don't work in the industry but are in the gym a lot.
  • Jewcy, as Saef said, that was a sarcastic remark. If you knew me personally, you'd get it. I can be annoyingly sarcastic. How do I know? My daughter has become annoyingly sarcastic. Hilarious, yes. But annoying at times.

For the record, I cannot make myself puke. How do I know? Terribly hung over in college one morning, I tried to puke just to try to feel better. It never happened and made me feel rediculously more hung over. It seriously never crosses my mind nowadays. I just hardly ever eat stuff I regret. I eat to fuel. Throwing up defeats the purpose.

Saef, first of all, I know some of my posts are self critical, but not in the form of being miserable in my own body. More in a way of keeping humble and modest. Since this is anonymous, I will say this: I think my bod rocks. I couldn't be happier. I accept my flaws and recognize they're there. That's all.

And also, Saef, you are right. I have a rigorous work schedule and choose to work out with my classes (especially when we're doing something totally different) to keep tabs on the pace and difficulty. I modify after demonstration, but even so, I have had 2 over-use injuries and a injury due to falling, since January.

So what do I do? I did not work out with any of my classes for 2 weeks. Yeah, I did some stuff, but I think the lesson everyone knows is to listen to your body. There's good pain and bad. STOP when there's bad pain.
  • Fitness,

It can be tough to pick up on inflections in text...or maybe I'm just dense! It sounds like you have a very healthy approach to fitness, and I applaud you. As someone with a personal history of anorexia, I've been steeped in the ED world for so long that it's sometimes hard to tell what constitutes "overboard" and what's just normal "girl talk"...if that makes sense.
  • Aw, Jewcy, I'm sorry. Ya know, I have to remember that this is a HUGE forum, and not only is it difficult to deceifer text-only communication, but I have to be more aware that what I joke about can be seriously politically incorrect and not funny. ED are nothing to joke about. I hope you have the support you need and are doing well.
