Default TOM Blues :/

Hi feathers!

I have a question. Do you all gain weight just before TOM? I ask because, I have been consitently in the 120's since Monday and then this morning I am 2 pounds heavier back in the 130's!! I am supposed to get TOM any day now but I have never noticed myself to "gain" weight before/during TOM. I havent done anything different so I dont see how my weight could have jumped 2 whole pounds. Is that possible? I have never seen my weight do this unless it was becuase i ate really bad the day before. So is it safe to blame 2 whole pounds on the expectant TOM?

Thanks feathers!

Yes, here are my daily stats from Jan, which I think will make you feel much better!

130 lb
134 lb
131 lb – TOM
130 lb
129 lb
128 lb

Happen to me every month! I personally hate it, but what can you do. Cheer up, it is water weight and you will have a whoosh soon!

OH that does make me feel so much better - especially since your "high weight" day was the day before TOM and I have a feeling today is that day (tomorrow I bet Ill get it). Thank you SO much! I just was a little down because I remember last time I tracked my weight daily (i dont do that anymore), I didnt gain when I was on TOM. Thanks again!!

I tracked my weight through TOM on the February chat thread (p. 3).

I went up from 124.0 to a high of over 126 in my dehydrated morning weigh-ins (up to 130 during the day). I'm just past TOM right now and my weight is at 125.3, still waiting for a whoosh.

Oh whoops - I think I may have deleted it. Here it is!

ALL WEIGH-INs IN THE MORNING.
Monday: 124.8
Tuesday: 124.0
Wednesday: 124.0
Thursday (*): 124.6
Friday (**): 125.5 [new scale].
Saturday (#): 125.2
Sunday (##):125.6
Monday (##): 126.4 [AUGH]
Tuesday (#): 124.1
Wednesday & Thurs: ankle injury, 125.0-125.2

ETA: For this experiment to NOT include any botched additional calories eaten, I'm staying under 1000 net calories a day, about 1200 cal intake, and trying to focus on more protein, not too many carbs, low-sodium. On Wednesday I ate 1300 calories and burned ~350. On Thursday I ate 1200 carbs and burned ~250. On Friday the cravings started to come: ate 1300 calories again incl. brownie and muffin, burned ~300. Saturday, ate 1300 again, burned ~400 (long run). Sunday, ate 1300, burned ~300 (flow yoga). Monday, ate 1450 (ankle related binge), burned ~400 (run, stairs, crutching) -- TOM basically ended -- bloat disappeared overnight.

I injured myself on Monday night (ankle sprain) and did ridic tricep exercising on Tuesday, so Wed/Thurs numbers are probably not representative of the TOM trend.

* = Noticeable PMS symptoms: bloating, carb cravings.
# = Menses.

The actual bleeding didn't happen until Saturday. It's obviously different for all of us, but for me gain in bloat was pretty noticeable just before my TOM, and it came with additional weight.

I just started tracking this go-around about 3 weeks ago, at 128.change. 135 is my high weight from the time just before I started to lost the first time

ok thanks for that! It really does help. So none of this is a real gain? just water weight and I should see my "loss" after my TOM is gone?

I think it is different for everyone, but I usually gain about 2-3 pounds a a day or two before, then about mid period it goes back down. Don't worry, it's totally normal!

I'm still waiting for it to disappear, actually...

I have this lingering paranoia that I really have no sense of portion sizes and have secretly been ingesting 1000 calories more than I intended of sauteed zucchini and Total cereal. All my indulgences come preportioned, but those veggies...

Hi There!

It may be my three-kids, old-lady body, but I've noticed that no two cycles are the same for me. Sometimes I have bloating and cramps around ovulation, sometimes not. Sometimes I bloat right around TOM, sometimes not.

Also, maybe it it because I've been paying so much attention to what I eat and how I feel, but now I am aware of so many things that make me bloat -- alcohol, diet soda, etc. A couple glasses of wine and my hands swell up and my rings are tight. I don't know if this has always happened or if it is an effect of age or of cutting back so much on alcohol that now when I do drink it affects me more.

Hope you get your whoosh soon! I'm still waiting on mine (day 4)...

Thanks everyone for your input!

I too have noticed the little things that cause me to bloat. I think I am one of those unlucky ones who is very sensitive to bloating. A little too much sodium, carbs or anything hormonal and my entire body and face bloat like a blimp! I am just praying that my weight is from my period and that my Monday weigh in wasnt just a dehydrated morning making me weigh less
