Breaking out of the 120's! Anyone else?
The 20-Somethings section has a bunch of support threads for those who are getting out of the 200's, 150's, etc, but since most of us who are at lower weights are either short girls or close to reaching goal, I thought I'd open this one up here. So... is anyone else trying to get out of the 120's?
|
Hi Bama girl, I broke the 120's a couple of months ago but it took me a while to do that. Checking my weight loss log today I noticed that I started the year at approx 135, today I am at 115.5. It took me around 6 monhs to loose those 20 pounds. I pushing to go down to 110 now but I feel pretty good at this weight...
I started the C25K program a week ago, trying to get some type of workout that I can enjoy as well a reasonable amount of calories (I am so bad with the strengh training..:() Good luck with your final push!!! |
I'll be joining you all after my baby is born! My prepregnancy weight was 129, I'm currently at 132 at 19 weeks. Wish me luck! My ultimate goal would be about 115 lbs.
|
Aw, awesome! Good luck with your pregnancy!
|
Well, aloha! I think this is a great idea for us short-er feathers.
I'm at 123 at the mo. Got down to 121.4 in May. Soo close. This was during exams so there was no going out for dinner/drinks. Which is why I crept up in June/July. Also, while I was at university, I had a gym membership for £40 a year. Now that I am back in London it's (at least) £40 a month. Grrr. Getting a bit bummed out because I loved my little exercise. But I found that I can go for free swimming at the community pool, because I am currently unemployed. Has anyone found swimming helpful in the quest for weight loss? I've heard it is very good for toning. Also I start an internship in a couple of weeks, so I think that not being available for drinks every night/constant snacking, should maybe bring me down in weight a bit. My 'goal' is 120, but for the purpose of this I'll say 119 ;) |
Thank you for starting this thread! I'm generally more of a lurker but I'm plateaued around 122 right now and would love to break out of the 120s ASAP. I've lost about 20 lbs so far and I've noticed the lighter I get the harder it is to shed the pounds!
The problem is, I'm training for the cross country season at college which starts in the beginning of september so I'm trying to balance eating enough to have the energy to train and losing weight. Doing okay so far, but I'd love to speed things up a little bit. Might add a few extra miles to my run today....we'll see. |
I WISH I was breaking out of the 120's :) My dream/ goal weight is 118!
|
Weighed in at 126.4 this morning... I'm so ready to see that magical 120 number!
How's everyone doing today? |
The Wii Fit always tells me that 119 is my ideal weight. But getting there seems so impossible! It's sort of an ultimate goal for me, but I'm not sure I can actually reach it.
|
Kellost, anyone who has managed to lose 80 pounds can do anything she sets her mind to. I'm sure it's only a matter of time.

From the looks of your ticker, 119's only 6 pounds away! I know how you feel about it seeming impossible, though. I cannot imagine myself below 120... but it's a healthy weight for me. It's kind of surreal. |
Thanks, guys! I actually had to adjust the old ticker upward, because I caused some damage on my recent vacation. LOL. But, maybe I can be out of the 120's by Thanksgiving or Christmas? That might be a sort of realistic goal.
|
120.4 this morning....ugh so close
|
I had lost 40 pounds and was maintaining at 115 from last October thru April of this year. THen I started gaining lit bits at a time, 117, 118, 119, and now, this summer, while off work from school I have been hovering in the 120-124 zone.
I weighed in at 123 yesterday AM. Would love, love, love to get back down to 115!!! It seems like the impossible dream right now! |
dilynnlew, I truly believe that if you did before you can do it again. Perhaps it would be a good idea to take in another type of exercise routine (e.g. biking, jogging, swimming) whatever you might enjoy.
It might help you shake up your metabolism as well as give you a new challenge,as well as to make your weight loss less boring!! Good luck, Caribbean Girl |

I do try to vary my workouts...I walk some days outside, walk/jog on the treadmill, and bike regularly also. I also try to incorporate some strength training...but am not terribly consistant with it. I know part of the problem is being home this summer. I tend to munch and graze more when home. Once I am back at school, I hope my schedule will keep me busy enough that I won't be snacking as much. I do count calories, and most days I burn more than I eat...but still not seeing the results I want on the scale! It's very frustrating! Thanks again for the reply! |
I've been in the 120's for years now. I'd love to drop down below 120. I was 118 29 years ago when my firstborn was 1. I dropped the weight off nursing him. Ever since then I've been 127-129 and up.
I'm running 3x a week but nothing has changed. I tend to weigh more in the summer, and less in the winter. I should change my ticker |
I've been counting calories for so long now that I think my body is too use to it.
Weighed in at 123 this morning which I have basically been for about 2-3 weeks now! Considering zigzagging for the last 4 pounds. Anyone had good/bad/any experience with this? |
Quote:
I weighed in at 121.2 today...lower than Tuesday's weight...but needs to keep going that way! |
Zigzagging is when you try to break or prevent plateaus, by eating more on some days of the week and less on others. The average of the calorie intake on all the days will be the same as you would each day if you were counting calories.
Apparently it tricks the metabolism makes you burn fat more efficiently. There is a calculator for it on freedieting.com Woo! shouldn't be long for you at all dilynnlew! |
I'm still at 126.6... That scale just doesn't want to budge. Here's hoping for a whoosh! over the weekend. :)
|
bama girl....hope you get the whoosh you are hoping for! Drink tons of water and that may help, if you are carrying extra fluid! Good luck!

Hello feathers,
My mum just bought me a diet/exercise book - my first ever - called the 'Body Shape Workout'. It's premise is, if you decipher what your natural shape is then you'll be able to more efficiently tone/lose fat. As some body types are more prone to gain fat/muscle in certain areas then you should exercise accordingly. I know it sounds so obvious - but I actually had never thought about it like that. So for my shape apparently running and other high impact like spinning is a no (hurrah) and but I should do slow jogging, swimming, skipping (yay!) and the cross-trainer. This evening I've been doing the recommended muscle exercises in front of the TV :) and just thought I'd share. I have a good feeling about this - been feeling as flat as my plateau as I've been doing the same thing for so long. Hopefully this will make me see 119! |

How do you figure out what exercise are good/not so good for your body type? That sounds interesting! Congrats on being so close to your goal! Were you very strict to get to where you are now? Hope everyone is having a great morning! Happy Friday! |
Hey Chelsey!
I was really strict at the beginning but I've basically been maintaining at 123 for the last 2 months! Looking at the measurements that you gave on the other post - btw you're tiny! much smaller than me. Perhaps you have dense bones or something(?) - the book recommends this. Monday - 15 minutes running/walking on an incline and 10 minutes on the stepper Wednesday - 15 minutes rower 10 minutes high resistance stepper Friday - 30 minutes swimming Sunday - 15 minutes walking/running on an incline than another 15 minutes flat As far as toning goes they say to concentrate on chest and shoulders, waist and stomach and back more than the other areas. Obviously include core and balance workouts as well. I've been doing it in front of Keeping up with the Kardashians. I'm living the dream. Went swimming this morning have literally forgotten how to swim! |

And THANK YOU for taking the time to look up what they rec. for me. What's interesting is that I have always felt those exercises are what really works best for me. I have been running, doing the stairmaster, and lifting weights only for my arms for the past few weeks. For some reason it just felt right. Too bad I dont enjoy it :/ Glad you have found something that works well for you and thank you for sharing with us that information! |
I wouldn't concentrate too much on what you weigh. Obviously people use it as it is the easiest way to keep a record of their progress, but it's not the most comprehensive.
When I was 135 I was 37-28-38 and now I am 123 I am 36-26-36, and although I am lighter than you, I am still bigger measurements wise. Obviously aim for what your comfortable with, but don't get too caught up with what you are on the scale. |
Quote:
I dont pay too much attention to the scale. I really just go by what I look like and what I am comfortable with. I really just want to get my stomach back. Ive never really liked my legs so I can deal with that. But when I did that crash no carb diet for 5 weeks and lost a lot of weight (my waist fell below 24 inches), I couldnt sustain the no carbs, so when I gained the weight back, it was pure fat and it all went to my stomach and face :/ Which stinks because that is my good area. I am so upset. I miss my stomach :( So although I would idealy like to get to 118, if I can even get my old stomach back I would feel MUCH more comforable. I am trying to learn patience and consistency, so we will see! I am so glad I have you feathers for support! |
I can't imagine that anyone can sustain no carbs, because your body needs carbs, girl!!! :) It will make you eat them eventually. ;) Often, the result is binging.
The thing is, though, you can beat the bad carbs. Your body doesn't need those. It can get addicted to sugar, but once you cut way back on refined sugars the body adapts. It realizes it doesn't need them. I know I go on about this, but that's just because I know what it feels like to be in that carbs cycle. I hate the thought of anyone else going through those ups and downs. Don't cut out the carbs. Just try to cut out the bad carbs as much as possible. It makes soooooo much difference. |
Ok I completely sympathise. It would be a dream for me to get a 24 inch waist - then I'd be able to fit into all of my mother's gorgeous vintage clothes!
But I don't think I am built to get to that waistline. So I'm going to live vicariously through you. You go girl! You do it for me xxx |

You said you have done the carb deal a few times in the past? Did you have a similar experience? What have you decided works for you now? |

Hey, ladies! I hope everyone is doing well today! I'm still at the same weight. Surprise, surprise, but TOM starts today or tomorrow and I'm drinking more water than God at the moment. I'm thinking I'll have a nice workout tonight, too... Friday nights are great for working out because no one is ever at the gym. I am probably a dork, but whatevs. :)
I ate pretty heavily at dinner last night because I didn't have time for lunch, and ohhh, man. I know why I quit doing that. When you get used to having normal portion sizes, it does NOT feel awesome to eat too much. Thanks for the reminder, body! How is everyone doing today? Any exciting plans for the weekend? |

I weighed in this AM...stayed the same at 121.2. I am not complaining, though, since we had a family dinner at Applebee's last night...sodium through the roof! So, I was expecting the scale to do a jump...just was happy to stay the same!
Hope everyone else is doing well! |
Weight was 121.0 today...at this rate it will be next year before I break under 120! But, at least the scale is going down again...
How is it going for everyone? |
Hey, any loss is a good loss! :)
I'm doing ok. I haven't lost any, though. I've made it my goal to get to 120 by the end of August, which I think is completely doable! |
Hello everybody, I've been a little busy these last few days with the kids on vacation and all. Also my DH was home for vacation for 10 days so we took the time to go the beach a few times, watch lots of movies, enjoyed the summer...
Anyway, as you can imagine, I gained a couple of pounds during this holiday, mostly due to drinking too much wine and enjoying a few too many not so healthy snacks!! But I am back on track now, today I'm at 116lbs, so just neeed to lose one more to go to my previous lowest weight of 115. Althought I lowered my goal to 110, I am still considering it. My body is really fighting this, let's see... I recently starting running intervals (training with the C25K program). I love it, but wonder if this might have something to do with this new plateau??? You ladies were previously discussing the effect of lower vs higher impact workouts on the process of losing fat & muscle. Very interesting.. In any case, this wouldn't be the first time I hit a plateau, so I guess there's not reason to be surprised.. I trying to lose at least 2 to 3 pounds this month and I'm already working hard at it!! Bama girl, how are you feeling today? A little bit more upbeat I hope? Cheers, Caribbean Girl |
A very hungover Dora is writing to you today.
TOM started, and for me that spells a little whoosh. Yesterday I weighed in at 122.2. I haven't been this weight since I was really strict with myself in May, so it's nice to see it again. Which meant I was particularly worried about going to my friend's dinner party last night. We were serving ourselves so I got myself a smallish portion. I don't think I drank a lot, but perhaps I did. Certainly not more than a bottle of wine, which I know sounds a lot but for a recent grad it's something that I've become used to. Anyway, I come back home after feeling fine all night and I am so ILL. I'm not going to go into detail but you can guess. So I obviously this morning I had lost, feel like I have cheated, not that I made myself purge or anything. But anyway even though I am down to 121.9 I'm yet to be ecstatic. Felt 18 types of hideous this morning. But my boyfriend took me to pizza hut for lunch and I felt much better! Spent the rest of the day watching TV on my laptop in bed. Ha! And now I am going to have a small bowl of soup for dinner. We'll see what the scale says tomorrow! |
